MB4 - GOTM24 Redux [civ3] Roster B

Gormdragan - can you explain the problem ? I am at work having afternon tea right now and I don't have the game installed here (too distracting .... ).

The problem last time was that the Port of Entry modification was implemented (I think) as a set of small wonders, one for each of PoE 1 to 4 (?). There were some lines missing in the PediaIcons.txt that told the game what image to show on the pop-up when it was completed. The fix I suggested for PoE 3 just showed the Lighthouse picture because it is sort of harbour like and seemed appropriate.

If it happens again look at the error message to see what file is missing.

If the game is crashing for another reason then ... hmmm .. it may be beyond my meager talents to diagnose.

Glad to see that the leaders are showing up at a respectable rate.

Isn't it ...
"Give a man a fish, he eats for a day.
Teach a man to fish and he will bore you forever with fishing stories."

Ok. Home now, with a solution. It is a problem with Port of Entry no. 4.

Repeating earlier instructions, insert lines :

#WON_SPLASH_80
art\wonder splash\Lighthouse.pcx

I should have thought of it earlier. Ah well ...

I don't know how it was missing in the first place. Did those who built Port of Entry 1 & 2 have the problem ? Perhaps it is a problem with loading the GOTM installation packs in a particular order or starting with a certain "full install" pack and not another. Puzzling but solved now I hope.

I'm only a complete idiot, but does this have to be done for every port of entry _79, _80, _81, ..., _n depending on how many ports you build?

I haven't opened the save yet. I hope I'll be OK.

IBT:
!!!! Hans landed a 10unit SOD on our main continent. I moved almost all our artilleries down south. I hope we can destroy this SOD.

1525:
I spent this turn to remove as many automatic workers and sleeping workers as I can.

Starting a clear forest-plant forest on some of our corrupted cities.

Flight due in 1.

Yosu razed. +17 gp.

Kui is razed. +7gp.

Yonago is razed. +7gp.

Susaki is razed. +8gp.

Niimi is razed. +8gp.

Musaki is razed. +10gp.

IBT:
Our SOD was positioned at a key artery!!! ZOC blasted lots of Hans troops heading to New Ise 2. What Luck!!! :D

1530:
Flight is discovered, colossus is obsolete.
Guys let me know if you want to cut research. Personally, Hans look like a walk over, so kamikaze may not be nessesary.

Crap...this is a disgraceful turn of artillery firing...about 80% duds.

Ch'ongju is razed. +21g.

We spawn another leader, making another army.

Ch'onan is razed. +22g. Hans lost their 1st oil source.

Pusan is razed. +20g.

Hahahaha!!! at 1500, we are weak against Hans. Now we are strong against them.

Marugame is razed (Capital of Chosogabe), +3g.

To be continued.

Do we want to drop research totally? or keep our tech edge? Personally, I would go for MA. We are walking over Hans.

One thing though, Hans have discovered Mass Production and are 1 tech from tanks. I don't think I can reach the last rubber and the other 3 oil on time. Any thought?

Can someone confirm that Hans (at ChengDu) has only 1 more sources of rubber? Also Mori is the only one with another source of rubber? If so, I will charge our tanks to Chengdu.

I hope I have not made a bad decision to start war with Han prematurely. I felt that hitting our strongest opponent is more important than cleaning up the minor ones.

Sorry guys, these turns are long.

The Nippon-Sino Progress

The_Nippon-Sino_Progress.jpg

We don't want Modern Armour. The game will be over b4 then.
I would cut research and buy aqueducts, markets, cathederals and hospitals. Join in all our native workers. Get all the slaves irrigating everything they can. If we still have money coming out of our ears turn up the lux tax.

But most of all.... kill the Han.

BTW: Kamikaze will still be useful for bombarding targets that the arty cannot reach, I would build some.

I'm impressed so far. Sounds like you're having fun. Dunno whether I want the game back or not now.

EDIT: Attacking when you did was exactly the right thing to do.
I wouldn't be too concerned about Han rubber. Just follow a disciplined conquest type approach. The handful of tanks you will face for a couple of turns are of no consequence, just try to keep an infantry army fortified close by for tanks that cannot get back to a barracks. You'll be fine. Just go for it!
Oh, and you might want to build the odd airport. ;) :D

Gormdragan

You probably don't have the right Pediaicons file for this edition of GOTM. The GOTM 24 and GOTM25/26 setups are not the same.

I built 1 and 2 with no problems.

Check your PediaIcons.txt, civilopedia.txt and diplomacy.txt files to make sure you have the correct files for GOTM24.

You might as well cut research. We need the cash to rush airports and units. You can also spend 10 or 20% on entertainment to make more happy people.

I wouldn't worry about Han tanks. What government are they? WW might force them into anarchy.

We'll also want some settlers to fill in the lands. Mad-bax thought we could build/capture about 30 cities defore domination.

Yes, but don't put culture in them. Please use Mapstat so that domination isn't triggered. I think if we want to come out on top we will need to get as close to the domination limit as possible, and get our happies as high as possible too. The quicker the better. The race is VERY tight. The HoF rules allow you to reload if you accidentally trigger domination, but I don't think I can allow that for this team.

Something else I mentioned before, and which I think is crucial, is that we MUST clear the Western Korean Island NOW. If we leave it for many more turns it will put back our finish date. PLEASE send a couple of transports with a settler and tanks to the island NOW, preferably escorted by a couple of destroyers, it's really important.

Sorry if I sound like a nag, I just can't help it.

A settler here would be nice. :)

EDIT:
Gormdragans save shows us 274 tiles from the limit. We can definitely afford to place another 25 cities, probably more.

It occurs to me that if we drove down the left side of the Korean penisula we could get to the productive core of the Han around Bejing. If we raze that area then the other Han cities can't build many tanks, anyway.

Each new city is 9 tiles. Each 1st level expanded city is +12 tiles. 20 new cities and 5 expansions would be 240 tiles. 30 new cities is 270 tiles. 25 new cities is 225 tiles and 4 expansions is 273 tiles! So some combination of the above is ok.

Mad-bax - check under that battleship near Omuta. I left a battleship, destroyer and transport by New Ise to take care of that island. They must be there. Hopefully Gormdragan isn't moving them off somewhere else.

sorry, I moved everything to Han express.

I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one here :)

This should be the end of it. There are only four ports of entry. There may be other additions later on but they are irrelevant to us.

1530: (continued)

Thanks for the heads up, I will make sure I clear the other islands.

cut our research, cycle through our cities to start a settler push.

New Ise 2 rushed airport.

New Beijing razed, +23g. Sunk an ironclad.

Kan-onji razed (Chosogabe's new capital), +4g.

Captured a wandering Hans settler.

1535:

Wonsan razed, +26g, sunk an ironclad, a junk.

Haeju razed, +53g.

We have 8 airports online.

IBT:
Hans battleships starts appearing on our west coast.

1540:

Sariwon razed, +28g.

Andong razed, +42g.

Munsan razed, +28g.

New Kuromo founded, our 8th lux online.

Kaesong razed, +59g.

New Beijing razed,+28g.

Started a grand migration of native workers on to our other islands to join cities less than size 6.

Loaded up 2 transports with 8 tanks and 3 settlers, 5workers to destroy the Omuta island.

To be continued.

1540: (continued)

We spawn a leader, make another army.

IBT:
Hans cav army enters our gun scope.

1545:

We spawn another leader, make another army.

Yangchow razed, +48g.

Hangchow razed, +66g.

Namp'o razed, +49g, sunk 1 transport, 1 ironclad.

Ongjin razed, +68g.

We spawn another leader, make another army.

I have filled up almost all our cities to size 6 in ex-AI islands. Beginning the great migration of native workers and settlers to Hans continent.

IBT:
Shimazu ask me to move our troops, "Nuts!!" I replied.

Hans stacks another SOD at New Koromo 2, 7inf, 6cav, 1 miltia.

1550:

To be concluded.

The suspense is killing me gormdragan.... though I appreciate how long these turns take. :)

Me too.

More suggestions from the peanut gallery (can I say that when Peanut is a member of the team?):

We should take out the Mori/Han island (with Kangyang on it) soon as well for the same reasons as the Omuta island.

We might also want to patrol the oceans. It would suck to have to hunt down a Mori or Han settler on a junk.

Well done gormdragan with the obliteration of the Han.

Mori/Han island is actually a lower priority, because the island is near our core forces on Han continent, it takes us only a single turn to land our troops, so I would prefer to keep some transports in stand by in New Koromo2 and transfer our troops over only when the Han continent campaign is near an end. The war against Hans IMHO requires all the troops we can spare. Since the whole Han continent is railroaded, we can load up our troops to land on the Mori/Han island really easily.

my 2 cents.

Do feel free to. As my fellow team members on this glorious adventure, you are automatically life members of the gallery. Congratulations!

I, too, am watching with anticipation. Especially seeing as, if MacBaldrick remains an observer, I think that I'm next to receive the Field Marshal's baton ... at this critical last stage.

1550: (continued)

Macao razed, +76g.

Chengdu razed, +76g.

Pillaged Hans last source of rubber (I think, but please confirm). No rubber = No tanks, infantry, artillery.

Declared war on Shimazu.

Hirado razed, +3g, sunk a transport.

Tottori razed, +2g.

Once the Shimazu island is cleared out, we can transfer our tanks back to our main island with the transports off Gifu. Move those tanks across to Tateyama on the west coast (facing new canton) and assault there.

New Ogaki 2 founded.

We spawn another leader, make another army.

New Handa 2 founded.

New Yokkachi 2 founded.

Summary

(1) We have a transport convoy just off New Ise 2 bound for New Koromo 2 to land on the Mori/Han island.

(2) We have a transport in Tateyama for landing on Han island off our main continent. There is an additional transport north of that island heading southward (unescorted). We may want to rush another transport at Tateyama in case the one up north does not make it.

(3) I have moved as many native workers I can find onto transports off Matsue, bound for the Han continent. There are some I have found which I have woken up, so the next player can move them onto the transports.

(4) Most of the cities in the ex-shimazu continent has temples built, keep those expanded squares in our calculation for domination limit. I am making an airport to be rushed at Yatsuhiro to airlift the infantry onto Han continent. Has the added advantage of allowing us to airlift our tanks on the continent if invaded. Next player can veto.

(5) We need to rush cathedrals in Chiba and Yokohama (size 12) to improve happiness. I had built temples for size 6 cities, cathedrals for size 12 and coloseums for size greater than 12. Happiness is at 94%.

(6) Native workers are down from 109 to 45. We have 3 settlers on the Shimazu island ready to settle once we eliminate them. Here is the breakdown.

Shimazu island - 2
Onboard transports off Matse bound for Han Continent - 13
Han continent - 4
Onboard transport off New Ise 2 bound for Han Continent - 7

(7) Settler breakdown

Shimazu island - 3
Han continent - 9
Onboard transports off Matse bound for Han Continent - 1

(8) Fraxis points - 5380 (sorry).

This is has been a great game, I think we can wrap up the game a lot faster than the other 2 teams. I am not very good at milking points. Hope we get to play another game together again.

The save

Phew!

How many towns will Han give us for peace?

Could knock a turn off our finish date.

Don't apologise for the score gormdragan, you played beautifully
