Year: 1299
Cities under Novograd control: 38
Important dates since last update:
1263: Novograd entered Golden Age

.
1263-1283: Golden Age of Novograd. I used this push to complete many city improvements (universities, cathegdrals, castles, mills, guilds, etc.) as well as building up my military.
1279: Abbasids demanded "Pike" from me and I refused. Abbasids declared war

. I called in markers from several nations and signed alliances against the Abbasids. Allied nations included: Khazaria, Sweden, Rus, Bulgaria, Turks, Fatimids, Amohads, Corovans, Germans and Hungary

(I think). I basically let all these other nations fight for me because I had no intention of sending any troops into Abbasid territory (although they did control what was Poland). My GA allowed me to build up an army to use against Lithuania.
1283: GA ended and my troop concentrations were pretty complete. War was declared on Lithuania.
1283-1292: War with Lithuania. I took 8 cities (including 6 submerged in my territory and 2 along the west coast). I didn't bring in any allies because I wanted to be able to end this when I accomplished my goals. I purposely avoided doing much trading with Lithuania over the years to keep them as weak as possible. I managed to take the last fur resource, a couple of timber resources and a couple of amber resources on the west coast.
1294: Khazars made peace with Abbasids

. I traded iron to them to begin the war again

.
1295-1298: Anarchy as I switched governments to Empire.
1299: Khazars made peace again with Abbasids

. All of my other alliances came due and I ended them and made peace with Abbasids (I'm not sure if it was okay since I still technically had 15 turns to go on second deal (alliance) with Khazars, but they broke the agreement first

).
I have pretty much caught up on tech development except for the Abbasids who are still ahead of me by 1 or 2 techs. I developed "Pike" and "Black Powder" in order to get back even through trades. I did pretty well selling either one or both of these to the nations I sent against the Abbasids.
The big problem I have right now is the Plague

. It is present in about a dozen cities and with the anarchy from switching governments it is really doing a number on my garrisons and my population. If I can keep things together long enough to wait it out, I plan to attack Lithuania again pretty quickly. Until then I have to get my spending under control (although I do currently have 10,000+ gold in the bank mainly through trades and selling techs).
My military spending is about the same under Empire, but war weariness when I attack Lithuania again shouldn't be as much of a problem (I think I was beginning to see cracks under Feudalism in some cities before the switch and making peace). After conquering Lithuania I would like to switch to Constitutional Monarchy (I haven't tried this government in any of my games so far) to see how this works with the commercial trait and peaceful relations with everyone. I would like to play from the trade/science angle from then on (although "Empire" and a punitive expedition against the Abbasids is tempting). It looks like Germany and Sweden are erasing Abbasid-Poland from the map, so good for them. The Abbasids will still be very strong.
