Mega Metro

I've gotten one to 34 or 35* - but it could've been bigger. I didn't irrigate everything.

* - not by adding workers to an already maxed food wise city

IIRC chieftess posted a pic where all tiles were railed and irrigated floodplain wheats.
Can't remember the size tho.

I played a Monarch level game in which a rival, the French, had built Paris up to 47. I can't remember too well but they may have built settlers and workers into it as they were on the run. But I was impressed when I saw it, until it fell easily to the Indian Elephant Army. Now that was A LOT of workers!

I've managed to grow up to 38 on a flood plain and that wasn't with an Argi civ. But it was unhappy as you like.

I saw an AI Celts get size 42 Alesia on Monarch, but the highest non-agri was a size 34 Karakorum Mongols on Emperor.

I tend to avoid having large cities; I emphasize production rather than size. I couldn't care less about my score. Instead, I have lots of cities of about size 20-25, all with 100+ production. So when I finally get around to winning by Space Race, it's easy. Whenever I check my Demographics, my Productivity rating is always number one, and generally it is 1500+. Tehee. Of course, I'm usually and Industrious civ...my first game was with the Egyptians and from then on I was hooked on the worker benefit.

i tried to build the biggest possible city (without changing the terrain properties). built a map with flood plains, wheat on them, irrigated and railed, gave agr trait to the civ and the city grow up to size 72. but in more "natural" ways, i saw 42.

72?!?! (10 char)

What's wrong with cops and taxmen? Taxmen=money, money=power.

But on topic, the highest I've ever gotten was in the mid-40s, but Cheiftess got something in the 80s IIRC when she did that FP/wheat experiment.

I think if I remember correctly, the highest was somewhere in the 70s.

But this was a reeeeaaaalllly long time ago.

So when you get that big are you better off using the excess pop as taxmen or scientists? Assuming the purpose of huge cities is to make more money to run your research.

I think a 20 pop city with high production is better than a 1000000 pop with no production. MINING IS GOOD. But, I already got about 45, naturrally, but about 30 shield, with FP wheat.

I have gotten one to 87 naturally. Thank god for the location.
