But I listen to pretty much all metal, except nu-metal (Slipknot / Korn) and ******h metal (Blind Guardian / Kamelot).

Power Metal, New Wave of British Heavy Metal, Symphonic Metal - these would probably comprise my favoured sub types of metal.

As for bands, Manowar, Hammerfall, Blind Guardian, Iced Earth, Rhapsody, Motorhead, Iron Maiden, Saxon, Demons and Wizards would comprise my main favourites.

Indeed they do!

A tuba ensemble would obviously count as heavy metal, whilst being impaled on a trombone would be in the genre of death metal - not sure what that would do for the tone of the trombone, dear chap, but I'm not a great afficionado of this sort of music, if I'm entirely honest.
