Microsoft buys eccentric developer Lionhead studios.

I have fond memories of ome of Peter Molineux's early work like populous and its sequal and dungeon keeper. Since Black and White I've slightly gone off them but nevertheless they are an iconic company in the games market.

What do you think about this? Lionhead going over to the dark side, or Microsoft going over to the light side?

I think it was a business transaction with profit in mind.

As long as they can make awesome games like Populous and Dungeon Keeper again though, i'll be happy.

:).

B&W 2; hmm don't know if it's good I didn't make it through the simplistic tutorial. Haven't got round to playing The Movies yet but I'm sure I will. I bought it as a teaching aid for use in my English class.

This partnership could be great for the games industry or it could compel other mergers and make it even more unimaginative and reduce diversity.

B&W 3 you will be at the height of your power. But I fear Microsoft will make them produce crap.

I don't know, I could only play Dungeon Keeper for so long before I needed to start playing another game.

Lionhead is quite overrated. Yes, Populous and Dungeon Keeper were both made by Molyneux but it goes several years back. BW wasnt that great game afterall, The Movies not to speak about.

populous was amazing back in the day, dungeon keepers gameplay was terrible. but its concept was fun. black and white was the same way, cool concept, terrible gameplay.

Not only does this look to be a purchase motivated by profit, it is also motivated by the need to maximize the value of microsoft stock. Which is a more powerful need than profit alone, imo

I liked Black & White 1 but i only liked the creature part :) - i didn't like it anymore since the city management got way to important, so i stoped playing it. Nice concept though.

Dungeon Keeper 2 is really cool - i didn't finish it though, but i was near the end. :)

This isnt as bad as take-two buying the civilization franchise.

Yeah yeah microsoft has some bad business practices but they have made plenty of good games.

Ever heard of the Age of Empires series? Microsoft was a big part in that.

The second installment was much better.

I really like Black and White, though I didn't finish it. I enjoyed Black and White 2 and The Moives demos, but I'm waiting for thier prices to fall before I get them.

Wasnt Fable by lion head aswell?

Yup.

They will all just set up shop round the corner just as they did when they sold Bullfrog to EA. Creats a nice biz node tho.
