So what song lyrics have you misheard, only to be surprised that it wasn't what you thought?

I've got a bunch, but the one that really sticks out right now is form Breathe Your Name, by Sixpense None the Richer.

Misheard: I need some brains.

What it really is: I need some grace.

This one really gets to me, becuase even though I know what it is I still hear "I need some brains."

So. . ..what's yours?

Iron Maiden: Can I play with madness?...

I thought it was "Can I play with matches?"

:D

Rage against the Machine's "Bulls On Parade"

it's "The microphone explodes, shattering the modes!"

but I got it to be, "The microphone below, shangalangamo!!"

Paul gasgoine's song

Its Fog of the tyne's all mine all mine
ME Bog of the tyne's all mine all mine

(when the) going gets tough

= go and get stuffed

and the trucks don't work from Bittersweet Syphony by the Verve

Breathe by the Prodigy

Real lyrics: "You're my victim!"
I heard: "Donner, Blitzen!" :o

You guys forgot the most famous:

"Scuze me, while I kiss this guy" in Hendrix's Purple Haze. It's "Scuze me, while I kiss the sky".

At least I think so...

Oh no the most famous (at least in my family) is from CC&R's 'Bad Moon Rising'.

'There's a bathroom (bad moon) on the right' ....

The most embarrassing instance of misheard lyrics for me was back in 7th grade on a team bus heading for a cross-country race, with everybody singing along to Def Leppard. Everyone else was singing 'Rock rock til you drop', and I was singing 'bop bop doodle bop'.

Owwwwwwww.

It's the Swedish thing

For a while I wondered why Bono would sing about Sweden until I, to my shame, realized:
It's the sweetest thing:)

Help me Rhonda by the beach boys " Well since she put me out there've been owls sleeping in my head"

In the Stones' classic rocker "Start Me Up," my cousin thought they said "Estaffio".

The correct lyrics are "kiss the sky." This is often cited as the most (in)famous misheard lyric, but I always heard it properly myself. There is even a "Kiss This Guy" website but it seems to be down or at least very slow right now.

Anything from the song We Want Fun - Andrew WK :D

There's a well-known one in the UK:

"So lonely" by The Police, became constantly misheard as "Sue Lawley" (a famous tv person).

I always hear "deck the halls with boughs of holly" as "bells and holly" - it still makes sense. To me, anyway.
