We don't even know what language the Huns spoke.
Are they going to use Broken Chuvash again? :p

Having the language might be nice, but I think it's a bit silly to disqualify a civilization just because we don't have that.

Well, Scythia basically replaced the Huns as the ancient Central Asian horse rider Civ.

Attila was cool in Civ5, but I think he's overrated in terms of what he accomplished. He wasn't the one who single handedly caused the decline of the Western Roman Empire.
Also, the choosing city-names from other Civs in the game was silly. I can't think of any Hunnic settlement names though...

Attila's Camp. ;)
At least Scythia had one known settlement. They're more interesting than the Huns anyway, in my opinion.

Replace the Huns with the much-better-attested Goths. The Goths were far more significant in Rome's downfall (and in laying the foundation for France, Spain, Portugal, and Medieval/Renaissance Italy), and they have excellent leader choices like Theodoric and Alaric.

I say yes to the Goths becoming a Civ! No Broken Chuvash since the Gothic language is decently attested.

I think it’s too much to ask for Firaxis to switch up their definition of a civilisation at this point.

Maybe we’ll get lucky with Civ 7 and they’ll finally acknowledge that nomadic civilisation at a massive thing in human history, created the biggest empire in human history, and are a viable alternate style of gameplay that should be represented. Or maybe we won’t :p

Not even sure if I’d call it lucky at this point. I wouldn’t trust Firaxis to balance a kilo of milk with a kilo of flour, so the less variables the better going forward

I want them all, the more civs the better. But my 10 favorites are:

1. Maya: my favorite not yet included in the game. They are very interesting, it should be a pillar in the game base instead of the Aztecs;
2. Inca: it is the best pre-colonial representation of South America. And they are among my favorites. Macho Picchu should be included as a wonder of the world;
3. Ethiopia: my favorite African civilization after Egypt. They are very unique. And the Churches of Lalibela should be included as a wonder of the world;
4. Ottomans: one of the greatest empires in history and one of my favorites;
5. Mali: a rich empire and Mansa Musa would be an excellent leader. Great Mosque of Djenne should be included as a wonder of the world;
6. Portugal: a great colonial empire;
7. Polynesia (or Hawaii or Maori): must be included in some way, they are very interesting and unique;
8. Venice (or Italy): Italy would be a very interesting addition, especially with two ruling leaders from Venice and Florence;
9. Babylon: most interesting ancient civilization not yet included;
10. Byzantium: one of the most interesting medieval civilizations.

Honorable Mentions:

11. Morocco: very unique and interesting;
12. Sweden: one of my favorite Civ5 civilizations, and I want it again at Civ6;
13. Iroquois: for me, the most interesting native civilization in North America;
14. Carthage: a naval power of the classical era;
15. Celts (or Gaul): Scotland doesn't have to be the only Celtic civilization. I think the Gauls would be an interesting addition.

Oh yeah, Sweden is pretty sweet too. I actually went and changed one of my votes from Assyria to Sweden.

Square peg, round hole. It's a barbarian faction they tried to make play like a civilization.

Instead you should be able to play as the barbs. Start as a barb camp and attack the civs and take their cities.

Agreed. I would love to see this. You could even have Sid Meier as their leader. I believe that was a thing at one time, back in the distant past, IIRC. :thumbsup:

Let’s not forget that if there’s no post DLC it’s not so much choose 10 as much as choose 5-7, depending on how many new civs are in the second xpac. RnF only had 4 full returnees, up to 6 if you count Scotland and Cree for being similar to old civs.

Personally I'm more excited about newcomers than returning civs.

The Inca, Maya and Ottomans are must haves. Ethiopia deserves a place. Mali would be good, but a new west african civ would be just as nice.

Anything else should be new IMO. Portugal and Austria get nods for their influence, but really, we need new blood for people to get excited about.

A polynesian civ would be tough to design to be truly unique at this point. Indonesia and Norway sort of stole their most obvious bonuses. Similarly, Sumer is currently (weirdly) filling the near east cradle science civ, so what use is there for Babylon?

While Carthage is deserving, I dislike their inclusion simply because they take an 'African' spot for a very European feeling civ. If we only get 5 african civs, I'd rather get a west african or madagascar civ in their place (or Morocco).

Last time I checked, Lebanon was in Asia... ;) Sure, Carthage incorporated some Hellenistic culture (they have the unique distinction of being the only Classical civilization other than Rome to translate Greek literature into their native language, according to C.R. Krahmalkov), but their culture was still very, very Levantine--far more Levantine than Hellenized.

What does Lebanon have to do with Carthage? Isn't Carthage in Tunisia?

Carthage was a Phoenician colony in modern day Tunisia; the Phoenicians were from coastal Lebanon. My point was that Carthage may not be very African, but it's certainly not European, either.
