I looked at this for Vanilla Civ, and I though I'd do it again for Warlords. What is the best combination of Traits, UU, UB and starting techs you could come up with using the standard rules of 2 traits, 1 UU, 1UB and 2 starting techs each? Assume you are playing on Monarch level.

Here is my list:
Financial/Industrious
Praetorian
Ikhanda
Mysticism/The Wheel

Looks like the closest leader for this list is my man Hauyna...

Mine would be similar except I would replace the UU with the Quecha.

Then you must really like playing with Huayna as your leader. Seriously though, aside from the convienience of not needing to got for archery early, I don't see much benefit to Quecha over the mighty Praetorian.

The ultimate warmonger:
Agressive/Charismatic
UU: Praetorian
UB: Ikhanda
Tech: Farming and Mining.
You can immediately train a worker to maximize production and start researching BW.

Interesting question! :goodjob:

Financial, Charismatic
Praetorian
Ikhanda
Mining, Agriculture as starting techs

Whoa; I typed that up without looking at other entries, so as to not influence my own, and coincidentally picked nearly the exact same setup as GoodSarmatian. You, sir (or ma'am), have impeccable taste! ;)

Edit: GoodSarmatian; sorry about that. I was (and am) at work and had typed up my post quickly and only glanced at your username. Apologies for the mistake. And FWIW, I agree that Aggressive does sound like it'd be very powerful for that combination. Marching Praets at only eight experience?

Argh, it's Sarmatian, not Samaritan.
And I picked Agressive and not Financial for the faster Ikhanda and overerpowerded Praets.

Mysticism/The wheel  , what an odd combination. Mysticism I can just understand, but even on harder levels you are not guarenteed a religion, but the wheel leads to nothing.

Lets see
Financial/Creative (although I will admit I haven't tried the new traits yet and Charasmatic could be powerful)
Immortal, for early game city killers it is unsurpassed
Hamman
Mining/Agri, allows you to go for either of the two best early techs next BW or AH depending on the start

The wheel makes sure your first worker will never be idle and can connect resoures and cities. And it means you can start researching pottery earlier.

It's can turn into an archer killer early and be affective until the Middle Ages. And yes, Huayna is my new favorite leader.

Philisophical/Charismatic
UU:Prat
UB:Forum
agriculture/minning

But then again I prefer a Specialist Economy

I'll go, financial/aggressive/sacrificial altar/quecha/mining/wheel

I picked the techs because they will never be wasted. u always need the wheel to hookup resources, and u always need mining to get bronze working. so ur safe in the usefulness of ur starting techs.

I might be convinced to go praetorian instead, but quechua can be huge in lotsa early situations that are otherwise very hard and cause lotsa headaches.

unless of course u have cow/pig.

Industrious/Philosophical
Fast Worker
Pavilion (I think... the Chinese UB)
Mysticism, Mining

Hello there cultural win

Ultimate Empire builder:

Traits: Financial/imperialistic, UU: Praetorian; UB: Hammam; Mysticism/Mining

Faster early expansion, pick good city spots = happiness + money. Financial + happiness from Hammam = cottages = money. Financial + mysticism gives early religion = money + culture (more land). Praetorians to make sure nobody dare to touch you in early game.

Great person machine:

Traits: Industrious/philosophical; UU: skirmisher; UB: Forum; Mysticism/Mining

Tons of great person pts. Mysticism + early religious GW likely give you multiple religions. I pick Skirmisher instead of fast workers because for a wonder freak the most important things is to make sure even you spend hammers on some early GW you will be resistant to barbarians and the early rushes from your jealous opponents.

Blood thirsty maniac:

Traits: Aggressive/imperialistic; UU: Praetorians; UB: Ikhanda; mining/hunting

Imperialistic instead of charismatic to guarantee more strategic resources. Hunting gives you a scout to start, which usually grab you early money and techs, and help you locate your opponents... or victims.

I think Imperialistic gets over rated. The setteler bonus only comes into play a very little bit since it only increases hammers toward your settler and in the early game using food to build your settlers is usually easier. Also while the GG bonus is nice GG themselves are only mildly usefull so this trait doesn't really stack up to a strong one like Agressive, or a extreamly powerfull one like Charismatic.

Traits: Aggressive, Philosophical
UU: Samurai
UB: Hammam
Starting tech: Hunting, The Wheel

(Wait, how could I forget Industrious/Philosophical?)

Agressive/Charismatic
UU: redcoat(vannilla )
UB: stock exchange
Tech: Farming and Mining.
(england)

over powered or what

Financial/Charismatic
UU: Praetorian
UB: Cothon
Techs: Agriculture/Mining

Charismatic/Protective
Skirmisher
Madrassa
Hunting/The Wheel

Builder heaven here I come :)

Industrious/Philosophical (No One -- and for Good Reason)
Forum (Roman)
Conquistador (Spanish)
Mining/Mysticism (India)[/b]

Industrious-Philosophical plus the Roman Forum UB = Great People Galore

Starting techs -- for the sake of wonders -- Mining and Mysticism.

After the initial rush of wonders in the ancient era, you'd want a medieval UU... since you wouldn't want to start an early war. But the Hwacha, Berserker, and Samurai aren't that great. I feel you may have to wait until Conquistadors.
