[MOD] Fall from Heaven II

/facepalm

Thank you!!

sure thing buddy!

by the way, just to save you a headache I'll let you know that the "Fall from heaven II scenarios" scenario is not 100% working. even-though i would like to play the scenarios directly from the epic menu that KAEL(or whoever that was, idk) had made a graphically superb menu I had to run the scenarios directly from the main menu's "play a scenario" option.
If you have any problems go there and scroll down, you'll see. :)

Hello, any advice on how to start playing this mod?
my BTS came with some FFH preinstallled?

should I start with that, or should i somehow update it? or should i play something else?

The FFH in BTS is very different from the mod FFH2. Actually in BTS it's a scenario, not a mod.

If you want to start playing this mod just dowload these in the first post an install them:

Requires Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword patch 3.19 or greater

Downloads

Mod: Fall from Heaven II
Patch: Patch "o"
Media Pack: Media Pack
Blue Marble: Blue Marble for Fall from Heaven 2

thanksm, what should i do to enjoy it best? when i tried the BTS mod I let it be since it was very confusing

Fall from Heaven: The Age of Winter is a mod, but it is the kind of mod that only works with that one particular scenario. The scenario is about the events that led to the downfall of Mulcarn, the God of Winter who entered Erebus itself and ruled it despotically during that eponymous age. The main mod deals with the The Age of Rebirth, which began after Mulcarn was destroyed and Sucellus rose again as a new God of Life.

I personally found the Age of Winter scenario to be quite disappointing. It did not match my play style at all, and has very limited replayability. The full mod is much better. It is also far more complex though, too complex is Kael's opinion for most new players. The scenario is purposefully more simple so that new players could use it like a demo tutorial before trying the real game.

There were a few bugs in the original release of FfH2:AoI (mostly Firaxis's fault), but if your BtS is fully updated it should be ready to play.

I don't see much of a point in installing the media pack or blue marble terrain. I suppose the media pack could be nice the first time you play, but once you've seen the extra videos enough it mostly just takes up extra harddrive space. I don't know why one would rather use the boring old blue marble terrain when the terrain custom made for FfH looks so much better.

ok, this was usefull. the way you put it I will try AoI first, then FFh2, with media pack, but not marble terrain.

I read there are some difficulty issues. I can consistently win the BTS unmodded game on prince level, what does that indicate for AoI and FFH2?

The game doesn't understand all the new features completely, so due to this partial inability the mod is easier. Normal "advice" when you try out a new mod is to play it 1 or 2 difficulty levels easier than normal, because you have to get familiar with it, but when you are in it, you can play it 1 or 2 levels harder than normal.

Hi all, so I have enjoyed playing FFH2 and also Wildmana for some time. Thanks a lot to the creators for those - they greatly increase the replay value of Civ IV. (In fact, I don't play vanilla Civ anymore at all.)

Now for a question - and apologies in advance if this is the wrong place to post it. I'm getting a little tired of FFH2 and Wildmana mainly because the AIs are a little limited ... also because I've played all the Civs in which I'm interested several times, so there doesn't seem to be much left. I'm wondering what I should do next to satisfy my fantasy civilization building craving.

I took a look at the latest version of Wildmana, apparently called Master of Mana, and I have to say I didn't like the direction in which it was going. It seemed to add a lot of complexity so that there would be a big investment in terms of learning new rules, relearning strategies, and so on ... I actually like the level of complexity of the original game or the slightly higher level of FFH2 / Wildmana, and wouldn't want it higher.

What I *would* like are more interesting civs and leaders, and also smarter AIs that can beat me by realistic clever play instead of just building huge stacks. For FFH2 in particular, I'd like to see AIs that could effectively use higher-tier units. I find that the AI can often beat me early in the game by just having a bigger army, but if I survive long enough to get top-tier units, or certain heroes like Chalid Astrakein, the battles become much less challenging. The AI doesn't seem to know some easy principles like "don't leave valuable units alone in enemy territory", "don't hole up in your city waiting for the enemy to attack when the enemy's stack has archmages with Domination", "don't throw your entire army against a well-fortified city defended by highly promoted crossbows", and "don't put all your units in one square when the enemy has Chalid".

Any advice? Are there, for example, modmods for FFH2 that would meet the above requirements?

Also, on a mostly unrelated note, what would I do to learn more about how to improve the AI myself?

if what you want is a good AI, Master of Mana is your only hope

it's the one and only civ4 mod in which AI warfare doesn't revolve solely on stacks of doom. it uses stack based combat which is really refreshing. AI will create stacks with various purposes, some are distractions, some harass, some pillage, some conquer... something you won't see anywhere else. and it'll just keep getting better and better since it's still WIP.

it's true that the design aims for more complex game. however, this doesn't mean a more COMPLICATED game. the focus is on less cities, less units, less micromanagement, less grinding, less stuff and less clicks. but, the choices leading to those clicks will be more interesting and meaningful. the new improvement system, equipment system and city specialization system coming in 1.3 are all going in that direction. which for me is the essence of turn based strategy.

it's true that it takes a short while getting used to, but give it a chance ;)

I played Civ IV when realeased, and was waiting for V.
As it's a version for childs, I bought once again Civ 4.
So I just tried yout mod:

IT COMPLETELY ROCKS MAN!!!!

Thank you very much: it multiplies by 3 the pleasure to play what it was already the best strategy game ever.

Thanks, thanks, thanks...

I'm playing this mod again after being away for a while and I noticed that from the start of the game in my first city I can build Acheron, Hyborem and Loki?!?!?! Is this a bug or am I in some kind of debug mode?

for a change, an amurite and I see eye to eye, lol.
seriously, i took that scenario as if it was the eight o'clock news broadcast about the FFH universe, took it just for info\lore.
did it twice and never looked back.

Congrats, you have unlocked the "TECH_NEVER" achievement, or something.

three options of what it *might* be:

1. known issue: Civ engine does not refresh properly after the loading of some mods - if you've been playing some other mod prior to FFH2 you've probably still have residue data from the previous game mode which collides with FFH2 in a bizarre way. in such an event I'd try to format drive C:\ (JUST KIDDING, do not format anything!). all you have to do is to refresh the game by clicking "single player >> play now" just to "jump-start" the memory setting that are relevant to the mod.

The same issue\bug\feature takes place when you use certain mods that alter the map creation process and then you may end up with a map with a tundra world regardless of what you might try to set up for your game.
remember: "single player >> play now" and that's it.

** ppl correct me if im wrong about the way to refresh. **

2. like in the first section but more specific; Could it be that you have tried to run FFH and then after launched FFH2? it may result in the same way.

3. you have been modifying game files knowingly(just for fun) or unknowingly(may be a corrupt download), this is less likely therefore it's not first. :)

and just for conclusion, I passionately hate civ5. It has nothing to do with everything but it has to be said! :P

Good-luck mate! :)

Need some help. Doing internet game with friend, our previous game ended in an oos so we tried to start a new game and I can not join his games and it crashes on start when he joins mine. Any suggestion on what we can do. He was talking about reinstalling the game...

Figured it out. Computer restart worked. As far as oos, I know it is a civ 4 issue not so much ffh2. I was able to some how stop the oos message with fraps. I am wondering if this is a frame rate issue, or if I just got lucky? Does any one understand why civ 4 has oos issues? Has any one made a private patch that fixes this? Or has any one found any tricks that work?

I have been a long time single player fan of ffh2 and would really enjoy playing with friends online now that i have finally got them interested in playing. Thank you for any help. Oh and thank you so much for ffh2, this is the only reason I play civ at all. Any news on the release of the new stand alone ffh?

Sorry if this ain't exactly the right place to ask,
but it's tough getting any info on Wildmana.
After loving FFH2, I've recently downloaded Wildmana
and all seemed groovy, even better than FFH2, but I just realised the whole upkeep mechanic is misfunctioning, and however many units I build, I never have to pay for their upkeep, which screws the whole game up obviously, especially if you're the Clan.
Have I hit a known bug? Have I just got a dodgy version?
(There is no official download any more cos MoM is the supported version)
Or have I somehow stumbled into a no-upkeep option?
Any help gratefully received.

it's definetly not a known bug.

try a PLAY NOW game (you don't have to play it, just start one). That should reset the gameoptions. there is a hidden gameoption that removes upkeep costs and is only used for scenarios.

Thank you.

It's fixed.
Anyone else with same problem, this is almost certainly the unexpected and rather easy answer.

I love FFH2, only finally getting into it two months ago after the sadly predictable Civ 5 debacle, and then after playing FFH2 to death,
was being blown away by the wildness, depth and complexity of WM,
before getting stymied by the upkeep bug, that kind of made any victory redundant...

Background is, Civilization 2 onwards, and then HoMM2, HoMM3, and dabbling in AoW2, JA2, and MoO2...all great games still playable now.

So sadly had to disown the latest, feeble Civ5 and HoMM4&5.
I loved Civ4 Warlords, thought BTS was a sideways step/mistake,
but probably my all-time favourite strategy games are actually
these amazing mods of BTS.

Obviously anyone reading this forum knows this already,
but FFH2, WM or Master Of Mana are probably among the best games you're ever gonna play.
And with the games industry, sorry, slight genre change here,
shoving out half-baked nonsense like Dragon Age 2,
then it's time to look backwards and sideways for the best games.

Thanks again, Sephi, truly wondrous stuff...

yeah, nowadays if you want real quality you've gotta turn to modders. game developers will only go as far as to call it playable, then release ASAP. result is... civ5.
