[mod] TOTAL REALISM 2.0

Help with a question...

Been skimming through this thread for an hour and I cant believe this hasnt been asked.. ( I must be missing the obvious ).

Where can I read details on what all these little interface additions at the bottom do?? Or could someone give me a brief rundown? The lack of tool tips is frustrating. Like.. I know one of them lets you see each units individual "status" like - "heal" "goto". But I only found it by experimentation.

The mod is absolutely Fantastic. Awesome! I had put cIV down for a while, now the game is like I felt it should of been from the beginning- granted its a bit chuggy even on my X2 4400 2 gig of ram....

Thanks for the great mod.

I will send the edited pedia tomorrow. Will you be correcting the other errors in the civilopedia like the many cases where it says something like: TXT_KEY and then a buch of other stuff instead of any actual info. (likewise for the name of the Three Gorges Dam)

There are also many grammatical and formatting errors in the civilopedia entries for units and such added by the mod. Granted, you guys have a lot else to worry about, so how about I do it for you. I could rewrite the entries for you without actually changing the information, merely correcting grammar and spelling and making it easier to read.

I personally reckon you should remove the stack aid bonuses. I would gladly sacrifice the extra 3% strength for an improvement in game speed. And could you include instructions on what all those tiny buttons above the command bar do?

Brilliant mod though.

PS: How come whenever anyone asks about the lack of multiplayer they get ignored. Could someone just say something, like are you working on it or have you abandoned the idea of getting it working at all. Any reply would be brilliant.

1) "moving" barbarians are also easy to see playing as Egypt
2) "moving" barbarians do capture cites if not protected (was defeated lol)

Tried to see something and started Total Realism mod, and used Custom Scenario whith Total Realism Earth Map. Turned off raging barbarians, turned on Agressive AI, played as Egyptians on Monarch difficulaty. Here what happened:

1) Greece Rushed Hunting and Bronze Wrking, and Expanded to Assyria, Babylon, Smarakd, Parse and Parsegade. (used World Builder around 800 bc)

2) Germany made a nice stack of units and attacked Tatar (same World
Builder in 800 bc, so i dont know what stack that was, but had Wild Spearman on top and 7 dots). Tatar had also 7 dots, but i belive it was mostly workers and slaves, defended by 3-5 units whith Hypaspist on top. Germany Conquared that city. (Informant)

3) Skandynavia was full of barbarians, and it seems no1 bothered to attack it. (same WB at 800bc)

4) Moscow and St.Petersburg was unimproved due to Tatar and Skandynavian barbarian activity. (WB at 800 bc)

5) Rome and Spain unimproved...(Carthage and Rabat) Rome has only 1 city and 2 settlers in capital :/ as usually France build cities faster, so Romans dont have a spot to put one them selves.

6) Captured Carthage and Rabat, Roman workers finally left cites and started to build mine on hill whith gold south of Rome (have it seen thanks to borders of Memphis). Whats worse Spain still un improved in Madrid. Barcelona build in its proper place is being improved. I belive Madrid is affraid of barbarian warrior "camping" tribal village(Civ 3 goody hut) on an island west of Madrid... lol

7) Had problems Capturing Nubia. Feeded its defenders whith my nubian archers... so it had Hypaspist lvl 3 city defance, archer lvl 2 city defance, skirmisher lvl 2 city defance. Prepared a stack of 6 axemans whith lvl 2 city raider (had Great General in Thebes). Nubia was conquared by Arabian 4 hypaspists... 2 whith lvl 2 attack, 1 whith lvl 2 defance, 1 whith no promotion. Nubia had wall, and was attacked from north east, so Arabian army had river crossing penalty... 2 arabian hypaspists survived. I cdnt capture it whith 13 city raider 1 nubian archers... all died, attacked from south where i get no river crossing penalty and Nubia didnt had wall back than (Mali captured it for 1 turn, barbarians retook it)

8) Accidently spotted no aztec civ... its only city was in ruins, no unit near it. After Retired i found it was destroyed by barbarians in 3750 !!! on monarch

9) while playing the game Never did recive scrolling message that some civilization was destroyed. I did recived it in previous games.

10) adding to not improved cities. Barbarian Rabat, Carthage and Nubia was un improved, how ever after i conquared Rabat it had 6! workers and 2 slaves... Rabat feared Spain (borders whith Mali was not close), Carthage feared Rome, and later some Mali city. Nubia feared me as it should be.

11) After capturing Nubia i was mad Attacked by African barbs. each turn had 2 hypaspists near Nubia, 2 next units near border. Some times i was attacked by 3 axemans 2 hypaspists and 1 archer in 1 turn ! After using World Builder in that 800 bc i saw that Zulu was building axeman in 3 turns !!!. Kongo needed 4. Some other city was training archer in 1 turn. A bit too fast i say.

-----------------------------

Any way Greece is overpowered. Allways they rush Assyria or the city north of it. And they allwasy conquer half of what Alexander the Great did in 300 bc. Mongols are also very good.

Next thing is that Kyoto in more to the West. The placing of Kyoto is where Tokyo sopoused to be. And if it goes to Realism. Edo was NOT a founded city. Some city was renamed to Edo, and i think it was Kagoshima, but am not sure. However Kagoshima is the name of a land where clan Daito was placed by son of Yoshimitsu Minamoto (founder of Aki-no-jiu jitsu witch was than adopted by emperors army), who changed (seccond)name to Takeda. In the flow of time Edo was renamed to Tokyo, witch is current capital city of Japan. And i Never have heared of crossbow ashigaru. Crossbow was forein for Japan. And Japanese warrior should be named Bushi, as Bushi means warrior (hence Bushido).

And a future proposal. There should be new third trait for Civ(each has only 2). Like Something common to industrial will increace workers work rate by lets say 20%, or Worker production speed. Some thing close to militaristic witch will lower unit support cost or Increace income from pillaging improvements and capturing cities. Religious (not Spiritual) civilizations should be more aware of religions, making them hate Civs whith diffrent state religion more than non spiritual. And Cmmercial like trait to make a Civ easier to trade, like there are moments where a Leader says "we just dont like u enough..." will desaper or will require more hatred than just coutious.

Hope i made my slef clear. Am from Poland and might have some probs describinh what i really mean in English.

stack aid: i was made some changes in SDK, so stack aid (and other components based on unit movement ie leader, horde promotion) is now running better (updatePlot function is called only 2-times rather then 9-times as before). also i have ideas how to improve this much better, but must further anlayze this (memory requirment for new data storage area vs. CPU load)

multiplayer: i was answered this at least 3 times, but i understand...big forum...i will ask houman to add this to FAQ
multiplayer is disabled, because in LAN games is much OOS (out-of-sync) errors - some components is updated, but there is still some wrong used functions, need more analyze

I Also May have found a bug with the Terra Map, But I don't know if it's due to this mod or a bug with the game. Well here it is, when I used the Terra map on huge size and saved to world builder, I found That it wasn't the right size, it was 128 by X which is the huge size for a Regular map. The huge Terra map Is supposed to be 152 by X. I had to search the the forum, and found that I had to Modify a File called worldinfo.xml. So I changed the sizes there to the terra map sizes. Shouldn't the Python in terra.py change the sizes of the map so you don't have to change the worldinfo.xml file.

May you please elaborate a bit more on this problem? worldinfo.xml is vanilla, we have not modified it. Where do you see 152 by X in the worldinfo.xml?

Thanks

3%??? You must be doing something wrong... I routinely get 20% or more, plus first strikes, increased chance of withdrawal etc. But it's not the bonus in itself that matters - it's that you have an incentive to mix different unit types in an intelligent manner, instead of mindlessly spamming knights or tanks or whatever.

I don't generally mix units. Admittedly I do tend to spam one or 2 types of units, but not mindlessly. I fight using terrain. Most often i will lay siege to a city by fortifying in forests/hills and bombarding with catapult/cannons. And pillage surrounding improvements to lure defenders into an ambush.

WarKirby

Indeed you would get out more of your troops if you mix them like in real battle. No worries guys Mexico did some magic and you have to thank him. The computer needs to update the plots around each unit only 2 times instead of 9 times. This is an improvement of 4.5 times. I am sure this will improve the speed significantly.
:)

No Worries guys, we will add the Dale combat.
Cheers
Houmie

Will you be implementing my diseases idea? I mean not necessarily in the next patch, but ever?

WarKirby

PS what about the Challenger II tank. Di you know it has computerised targeting and holds the record for Longest Distance Single Shot Destruction of an Enemy Tank. I think it was 2 miles away.

Well, there's another good reason to mix units: Most of the ones best suited for attack (such as cannon and catapult) does not receive defensive bonus. So fortifying in forest/hill won't help a bit, unless you have units in the stack that DOES get the bonus ;)

Do yo remeber civ 3 ?
well there was a an action for the artillary that it could bombard territory and not only defences

it's quite real , cous that the job of artillary , and why do i have to attack ad risk the artillary like ordinary unit ?
in real war , artillary is way back , and can bombard units with no risk , only counter artillary or long range strikes

just a sugestion that would bring back the artillary force again

thanx

:crazyeye: what is the unit action icon button with the hand with scrolls in it do and mean?

Contract out your unit. You can earn extra money, but with every good, there is a bad.
