Modern Times: a new GMR game?

Two Japanese cities, connected only by harbour, seem to be getting the railroad production bonus. Known bug?

Harbour gives railroad production bonus immediately when researched Steam Power. Not a bug.

Wow, I had no idea. Makes Carthage even more OP. Silly me, I thought you should have a railroad connecting two cities to get a railroad production bonus. The fact that the railroad in the city tile seems to act as a rail connection via the harbour seems...pretty weird.

Japanese antique sailing vessels have noted the Very Large Battleship Fleet which has been magically raised in Ethiopian waters. I don't suppose there's any chance this is a defensive fleet?

That depends how well Japanese coasts are guarded, if well guarded we will back down.

Interesting. So your fleet will become defensive if our coasts are well guarded. As you know, our capital is not coastal.

May we ask what has precipitated this planned aggression against the peaceful Japanese people? So far we have only had a peaceful trading relationship. We are open to a declaration of friendship if Haile would like to make the Sea of Japan a model of peaceful economic cooperation.

Our fleet was built with a defensive intention, but it comes at a cost as we forgo buildings. The cost needs to be paid, if not entirely by ourselves.

We are not aiming for domination victory so non-coastal capital is irrelevant. The path of ideology will not work for us any more, because we have adopted the doctrine of economic analysis for the entire board of games: i.e. if the cost of war is low enough, we will go for it, unless we encounter resistance enough to no longer sustain the war economically. Therefore, Japan is unfortunately under the test now.

Sounds like war has been declared. Nobunaga fears for the safety of his sailors.

:p not yet, our fleet will poke around to see if Japanese has a larger fleet, otherwise we are doomed.

Don't forget the ones you can't see. ;)

Not yet, says Haile, and our ship is at the bottom of the sea.

The mighty chancellor of Germany, the Iroquios leader has answered your call. Our conflict with Japan is regional and it will not spread far, certainly not to Germany.

Edit: ah typo: we are Erhiopian people :crazyeye:

See, don't trust him, he lies! Who these "Iroquois" are we do not pretend to know, but these Ethiopian devils, we know well, because they will soon be taking one of our cities!

Onan, did you go vacation when you left these three days? Two units are guarding the cities, so I' m not sure if it's AI put them in the cities.

I did, but I'm not even sure I missed a turn.

Ah, if you mean the cities that were about to be captured, then yes, that was the AI.

Evil Ethiopia has taken two of peaceful Japan's cities. The Emperor is not amused.

...almost played the turn and then remembered to hold it. On hold till E's back from holiday...Jan 4th?

Did you turn off the turn timer?

The hollanders are still waiting for the oncoming storm from the austrians. We are hoping that they will be happy with swedish lands but are preparing for the worst. The danes are being controlled by the AI while Is is away so the south is safe for now.
