Modern Times: a new GMR game?

Just showing my appriciation for a great comment. Laughed when I read it.

The dutch is just hoping to ride the storm. The swedes are gone and the danish are passive. There is nothing I can do really. Nothing but hoping he needs me alive.
On the other hand, if Is was still here he would be going after me to stay competative against tab.

:D. I was quite pleased with it myself, glad you enjoyed it too.

I wonder why they call it Civilization? It's more like the law of the jungle, or worse.

I also wonder if there are any games that are more of an MP simulation of geopolitics, where war is less of a factor, less absolute. I guess the problem there, for gamers, would be an increase in complexity as well as...less entertainment value, more like work. But if anyone knows of such a 'game', let me know. :)

Sorry to cut your fun Onan but this genre and series will always lend to wars sooner or later because of human behaviors.

Same things happen in real life you know. More and more difficult since the atomic bomb though...you don't see any correlation? I can see one.

Edit : I can feel you more ''maternal'' since you wait for your twins ;)

I tried to do something like that with the "A more meaningful friendship" game I started.

It is still in early stages so I can't really tell you how it will turn out.

I think that with the right set of incentives you can create a more political/less total war environment. I recall that in one of the Civs your population became more unhappy the longer you were at war. And in Rhye's CivIII mod when new Civilizations popped they took whatever land they needed regardless. If your city was there then it just disappeared. In general I think that the puppet cities in CiV are far to compliant. I always wanted them to try to revolt. Sorry if this is getting a bit [offtopic]

Minimum terms the Emperor will accept include the return of our northern ports.

only if subs can take cities. otherwise we will hide behind cities and wait for destroyers to come online.

 very funny.

You're not spoiling my fun, I'm just looking for a different kind of fun. That's why I was asking about other games or simulations, besides civ.

Yes! That's a good example of the kind of thing I'm talking about.

Agree.:D:

I think this series simulates real world to great extend. military and economic power says everthing

But the real world doesn't actually work only in that way. People have power as well, whether as partisans, guerrillas, collaborators, with revolutions, etc.

Maybe there's a civ 5 mod that would have some of the effects I'm looking for. I the real world, it's not often that you see a military power sweeping the world. I would say it's more the exception than the rule. Most conflicts tend to drag on and be much less conclusive than the ease with which cities, cultures, and empires can be overrun in civ 5. The snowball warmongering effect of the game is gamey, not realistic. While the unhappiness penalty does put some limit on warmongering, I don't find it very realistic at all.

Like I said, I'd be interested in a mod that includes more realistic effects, making wars more limited. Huge expansions wouldn't be impossible, just much more difficult. Could be rebels, or diplomatic penalties, prolonged happiness issues...lots of room to play with it, and I'm sure others would come up with better ideas.

Ps Michael and Foffaren, tab has invited you to sub in another game for Islandia if you're up for it, but in a PM on the boards...dunno if you're in the habit of checking those.

From human history there was only 3 real attempts at dominating the world. Romans around 0 AD, Mongols later then Germany 70 years ago.

First 2 attempts failed because of technological barriers and last one failed because of the A bomb and a gang bang. I can be compared to Germany in civ5, always finishing with people banging on me because i'm too ''powerful'' while defending or attacking with A bombs. Some others are rushing right of the bat trying to dominate rapidly like Mongols but failed later becuase their tech rate sucks and suffer from unhappiness for a too long time.

What I thought was funnier was comparing the allies to gangbangers.

Any of you played Diplomacy, the game?

I just replied to the message. I can't take on any more games right now. I just got transferred for work, greatly increasing my commute time so I am having a hard enough time with the games I have now.

The mighty Japanese warlord: we realise that a terrible mistake was made on our part. We will give back one of the cannel cities and a lux a few coals to back up the deal. We want one of the cannel city for access to the Austria-Dutch Sea. We will sign open border for you to access our cannel city to the Swedish Sea. Appologies.

We are considering this proposal. Because it seems you are offering to give us back less than you have taken, we may ask you to sweeten the deal some more, to make it more fair. Also, the offered lux and coal (which again may be less than what we would have if we retook both cities) would need to be permanent deals, renewed in perpetuity.

The Onanites, in their Japanese incarnation, are also wary that the Eboyese, in their Ethiopian incarnation, may still suffer from Advanced Nuclear Paranoia, and thus will still seek our destruction in the name of their own defence. Have you been cured of this disease?

If this offer represents a real change of heart, rather than an economic and political calculation solely for your own benefit, then the Onanites are open to attempting to build some real trust and cooperation with the Eboyese.

Emperor Tokugawa also wonders if you have had some communication from our friend, Chancellor Bismarck, which may have prompted this offer. :D

Our symptom is getting better after being nuked by Songhai in the other dimension. As we know the world will unite and gang on the nuclear aggressor. so we will build only defensive triplanes and promise the deals to Japanese are permanent.

The Germany is a worry to us. because the single panzer showing near our young city seems to be an expensive scout. We will check if there are more coming from the Western side.

Another interesting news forgot to mention: the Dans governed by AI DOWed Sweden. must be the bribe from Austria

We need to revert the game. Back to desktop problem again.

You too, huh. My turn was played by the AI. Maybe I'll revert back to me and see if I can play it now.

No dice, skipped myself again. :( Let us know how it goes, Tab.

I must've missed two turns at least in this game.

The Emperor is not pleased with the offered deal. You offer us one of our own cities, coal we would have gotten from another, and the same lux we will have at the city you are returning to us. Tokugawa is insulted that you would take us first for weaklings, and then for fools.

We have made our own offer for the return of peace, which includes the return of Nara, the other city you ravaged. If the terms of the offered deal (can't say cause I haven't decided yet) are not accepted, then Japan and Ethiopia will remain in an active state of war.

P.S. Kagoshima has been returned to the empire by force. Reparations must be paid for the innocents you have slaughtered, whether in treasure or blood.
