Modmodding Q&A Thread

The same old soundtracks, with with the added leaderheads. Sobieski and Casimir both use Peter I think. Besides, Casimir in DoC is modeled off of Brennus, while the one in HR is modeled off of... something I can't identify. Unless you cherry-picked your leaderhead and the music from different mods, you probably got Casimir somewhere else.

I did, but I am very sure about Sobieski being from History Rewritten.

Where is the relationship between civics and Atlantic slavery (like trading the units and building slave plantations etc.) handled?

In the DLL.

In the DLL.

I was afraid you'd say that. Sigh, fiiiiiiiiiiiine I'll try reading up on how to compile the stupid thing again, especially since the latest Git commit changed something there too.

Specifically, CvPlot.cpp was changed. I assume just copy pasting that file won't actually achieve anything, instead I would have to copy the entire .dll file or get it in and compile, correct?

Editing a C++ source file does nothing, correct. You have to recompile the DLL.

Which program(s) would you recommend for that purpose? I know there are guides and tutorials and I read all of them years ago when I unsuccessfully tried my hand at SKD modding the first time, but there's just oh so much old stuff that might be outdated now.

I use Visual Studio 2010 Express. It's the standard Microsoft product and it's free so most guides are assuming it (maybe a different version, but I doubt that makes a difference). I also once set it up with Codeblocks instead.

If you want to spend money use whatever Jetbrains has developed for C++, it's guaranteed to be good. Edit: it's called CLion.

But really just choose a tutorial and get the compiler working, your IDE is window dressing you can worry about later.

So, er... I'll ask just to make sure: you don't remember which mod you got Sobieski's soundtrack from?

Yes, that's it!

I can confirm that, as I was the one who originally delivered the music to Leoreth (along with Songtsen Gampo's and Hongwu's theme, possibly others).

Where do Abbas's and Hongwu's tracks originally come from?

Any news on my new buttons or will you check them when you get back from america?

On the topic of Various Delectat, if I can get the polynesian art working do you actually want it included?

Currently the trireme art is used by all european civilizations in various delectat. Can I change it so that only ancient european civilizations use trireme art and medieval european civilizations use war galley art? Can I also change the name from "Trireme" to "War Galley" since most civilizations use other art already (various delectat only)?

Can I reduce all pre-modern ship sizes and increase all modern ship sizes (in both base DOC and various delectat) so that modern ships appear far bigger in-game like they are in real life.

Abbas's music is from SoI (Sword of Islam, by embryodead), Hongwu's is from RFCA (possibly), some other Asian mod, or one of cybryxkhan's diplomusic packs (I kinda forgot, that was a long time ago).

Haven't yet had the chance to compare them all.

This might only survive until an eventual naval roster change, but good idea.

I'm fine with the current ship sizes.

On another topic, do you prefer any of these buttons over the current ones for inclusion in the mod. I can give a reason why I think they need a new button if you like but most are self explanatory. They have better pixel quality when viewed in-game.
Finally getting around to that, sorry.

I wish the file had better quality/resolution but I'm going to assume that everything where the difference isn't immediately apparent it's only about the frame/border. I still like everything except:
- I actually prefer the red background for generals
- the old Gompa button is fine, it shows the front of the building
- I'm kind of undecided about the unique existing buttons (e.g. Corsair), I know consistency is good but I think I'd rather keep them
- can you show how the statesman icon looks in the city screen?

Fine about the red background for the generals.
Fine, but I could never tell what the old Gompa button was.
Fine about the Corsair cause the old one is cool. Do you mean just the corsair or all of them like the Zoroastrian buildings and argentine cavalry?
The statesman icon looks rather dumb in the city screen; I'll take a picture later.

I meant the Argentine Cavalry mostly (not sure if there are other units affected but I think it's mostly those from HR), I think the new Zoroastrian buttons are better.

Is there a way to see the city names over the tiles when in world builder?
