Monarch charming

800 BC (inherited turn) - moved some chariots to block resources from Shaka and to intercept the archer before it starts pillaging. Cancelled OB with Napo and Roosy.

IBT - Napo has built stonehenge.

775 BC (1) - Shaka sent an archer from Ulundi north. The archer in the north has moved to the sheep. Looks like a pillage is coming...

750 BC (2) - No more sheep... for now.
Spoiler :
750bc.jpg

But we have avenged them (chariot kills archer, without a scratch).

725 BC (3) - Seoul: Settler -> Axeman.

IBT: 2 archers from Ulundi attacks our chariot. One is dead, the other defeats it. Archer pillaged our copper! Shaka sends another archer.

700 BC (4) - Copper town: Axeman -> archer (since we don't have copper... will get on it right away). A chopped forest goes to the archer.

675 BC (5) - Seoul cannot work on axeman (copper!). building archer. copper to be reconnected in 3 turns. Shaka's archers are afraid, and retreating back to the city.

650 BC (6) -

IBT - Augustus has declared on Saladin.

Spoiler :
625bc.jpg

625 BC (7) - Copper connected! Seoul Archer -> axeman. Our axeman near copper town kills the approaching archer and Arminius is born in Seoul! I settle the GG as a great instructor to get the 2nd promotion for the next units. We have 8 units (2 X's and 6 chariots) ready to attack next turn at Shaka's 2nd city.

600 BC (8) - Charge! Results: we lost 2 axes and 1 chariots, but city was razed. Settler is in position to build city next turn.

Spoiler :
600bcraze.jpg

Oh, and we got 64g from this raze. I raise research to 100%, HBR is up in 7.

575 BC (9) - Seoul: axeman -> library (because it's about damn time). We should be able to whip it in 2-3 turns. Cowville is founded! I set it on monument (gold and corn are just out of our reach...). Shaka sent a mini-Sod (3 archers). I fortify the axeman on the copper and send some chariots to the area. Archer in Copper Town has CG2.

IBT - 2 Zulu archers advance to copper town.

550 BC (10) - 2 Zulu archers are killed :hammer:.

sheep pasture is done in 3. 2nd worker chops forest in 2, and then he can go for the cows next to it. We really need another worker (maybe in Seoul after library is whipped? although more axes are also needed, since 2 of them were killed). We also need to connect Cowville.
Cowville works the cows for now to grow, and then it will build monument faster.

HBR is done in 5, and then... what? IW? Alphabet so we can finally trade techs? math on the way to construction for hwachas?

I left some units unmoved. Note the Zulu archer in the jungle south of copper town:
Spoiler :
550bc1.jpg

And see here (woo! Circles! in COLORS!):
Blue circle - a wounded axeman. Might want to move a chariot to protect it from the evil archer.
Green circle - an archer on the way to defend Cowville.
Red circle - an axeman just waiting to get some action down south (and can still be moved this turn).
Spoiler :
550bc2.jpg

There are 2 healing chariots in Cowville, and a chariot next to Ulundi checking things out there (Shaka has 3 archers there. Only 3.).

And as for foreign affairs, behold the Budhist Alliance (tm)!

Good work, we need to keep our copper protected! Once HBR I think Alpha as HAs will wipe up anything, get some trades going. We need Buddha to spread to us! Have Copper Town start work a grass/forest to grow. Need to hookup Cowville after its chop. Just keep pressure on Shaka, he's cornered atm.

we need to keep our copper protected!
Yeah, I know. My bad.

I agree with alphabet, but then we need some tech to trade with.

Oops... just noticed Cowville doesn't work on the cows (I probably changed it to cows after the save). I'm sure you'll fix it :)

And of course cowville is an excellent city for cottages.

Sorry about the delay, guys, I've been pretty sick all weekend :yuck: :(

I'm still feeling a bit under the weather, but if you don't mind waiting I should be able to play and post tomorrow. Otherwise I understand if you want to skip me. So sorry again about the delay.

300 BC - 1 AD

225 BC Augustus makes peace with Saladin

125 BC Parthenon BIFL

75 BC We accept OB with Napoleon

I played a couple more turns to even out the set, I hope that's ok. 1 AD seemed like a better stopping point than 50 BC. Mostly I built units and moved in towards Ulundi. I did pick off an archer that Shaka moved out of his capital with our HA, which now needs to heal. I put Cowville on a granary, because it was not connected to our network yet and after the barracks could only build archers. I built a road to Cowville, there's only one turn left on the granary then it can build axemen and HA's too now that we've a road going there. I MM'd Copper Town to work the grass hill mine instead of the copper, we trade one :hammers: for one :food: that way. Units take a little bit longer to build, 1-2 turns, but we are also getting some slow growth out of it as well. I set research back up to 100%, we will have Alphabet in 4 turns then can switch to Ag - the corn is in our borders now, as is the gold :) I do have a worker mining that right now, that should really boost our economy.

Not too many pics, not a lot interesting going on these turns.

Here's our cities

I know we need our production focused into units right now, but we really need to look at putting up a lighthouse in Seoul as soon as possible.

Nice work :D

Got the save, will play it on Friday.
Ulundi seems to be really well fortified :wallbash:, but I think the Combat I archers (or most of them) will leave the city soon to attack us, and then it will be easier.

Then ag after alphabet, build more army and squeeze out more commerce. I think the light house can wait a little (we have enough food if we want to grow the city). Maybe another settler? I think I'll build a stable in Seoul before continuing with HA's.

After ag maybe math and construction? we could really use those hwachas...

25 AD (1) -

Cowville: Granary -> Library (it's gonna be a commerce city).
Chichen Itza BIDL. I left 1 axeman on the copper and started advancing the rest towards Ulundi. Also started moving 1 chariot from Nobamba to Ulundi. Left the other one as eyes.

50 AD (2) - Moved some units. gold is done (not connected yet).

100 AD (4) - We have alphabet. Agriculture is up in 1 turn. This is the tech summary now:
Spoiler :
techs1.jpg

Looks like 2 are building great lighthouse.

Napoleaon has Alphabet and HBR, Shaka has HBR, others have neither.

I make some trades: I give alphabet and get in return Math+Ag (Roosevelt), IW (Saladin), Poly + Masonry (Augustus). Trading knowledge is important :)

New tech state:
Spoiler :
techs2.jpg

I set research to construction for the siege weapons. Due in 8.

Gold is connected, which is good since seoul is about to grow to 6 next turn.

150 AD (6) -
Seoul: HA -> Archer. We build it fast and I want to build a settler afterwards to get the iron. Oh yeah, there's iron west of Seoul :) :

Spoiler :
150ad.jpg

Shaka will give us calendar for peace. He will have to wait. We have 11 units around Ulundi, but he has 9 well fortified archers in it. Just a few more.

I trade Roosy HBR (we're not the only ones to have it anyway, and he's far away) to Priesthood, Mono and 100 gold. Research can remain at 100%

IBT - A barbarian archer volunteers to be killed by our warrior.

175 AD (7) - Nothing happens.

IBT - Great Lighthouse is BIDL.

200 AD (8) - Corn is connected.

225 AD (9) -

Seoul: Archer -> Settler. And exactly on time (1 turn from growing into unhappiness). due in 6.
Copper Town: Axeman -> archer (anything else takes too long, and we need more archers). We can switch it to hwacha when we have construction.

250 AD (10) - a barbarian archer approached our gold. I had to move the archer from cowville out, and it still won't get there on time (because we don't have bridges yet). I also took the chariot from nobamba, and it will be able to attack the barbarian archer on the gold next turn (if it goes for the gold).

We have 12 units suffocating Ulundi. I'd rather wait for a hwacha or 2 to attack (we have really low odds right now).
Spoiler :
250adulundi.jpg

Construction is due in 2 turns and we have enough gold for it, after some tweaking of the research slider and Seoul's work tiles.

Cowville has no protection now, and we have a chariot and an archer which can attack the gold tile next turn if the barb reaches there. Another axeman can enter Cowville next turn.

Resource Map:
Spoiler :

Spoiler :
250adseoul.jpg

The settler will be ready in 6 turns (or less with whipping). An archer is already on its way to the new city location. I'm just not sure where it is yet.

We can get all 3 happy resources in the BFC if we put the city on the iron, but we don't have to have them there.
I'd put city 1N or iron to get as few desert as possible, possibly 2N to be no shore.

The save:

Looks good, Asaf :goodjob:

I would like to submit for consideration 1W of the iron, it does allow us to possibly work the fur and the ivory, and covers a lot of yucky desert tiles  but puts the cows in the BFC to help feed the city. Would the cows be worth it? I couldn't see from the screenshots if there was any seafood to make 2N of the iron worthwhile, and I can't check the save at work so I am guessing we would need the cows~

There is no seafood that we can see, but we don't see the ocean, only the coast. We have a healing fortified warrior there which can move closer this turn to the hill and maybe we'll see. And we can send the archer as well.

If there's no seafood, then I think you're right.
