Montezuma

bRAAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNS!!!

Anyway, In my current game I am playing as Napolean for the first time, Terra, Large, Noble.

I have Monty due south. Isabella East and SE. Justinian North, Toku Above justinian, Sitting Bull east North East, and Hapt and Boudica East of Isabella.

From about 100 BC I have been at war with Isa or Monty, Sitting Bull and Justinian(vassel of Bull) almost continuiously. Once was at war with Isa Monty and Justinian(pre-vassel) simultaniously.

Monty became my vassel because 2 turns after the peace treaty ended he takes one of my cities. 5 turns later I take it and two other of his cities within 2 turns. :goodjob:

Really the best way to deal with him is kill him or vassel him. Though as a vassel he is useless. Last war with Isa none of his troops left his territory nor did he lose any AFAIK.

He and any of the unit spammers can be quite good as vassals actually, they just need to rebuild their infrastructure (which is aided if you give them back some cities that you don't need or care about). Sure, they'll tend to forever be behind in tech, but they'll still make a ton of units which can serve as good fodder. I just let them rebuild and eventually when I'm in a fight I tell my vassal to attack another city away from the main lines...and since all the unit spammer leaders like Monty make tons of units, they have a chance of actually punching through city defenses.

Monty can definately be a great vassal for just this purpose. I don't even mind feeding him some techs so he has stacks of near up to date units. Its nice if he's attacking my enemy's infantry with rifles and cannons instead of macemen and trebs!

I even had a game one time back playing Prince where I vassalized Monty early and I ended up crediting the wiping out of Ragnar and Boudica mainly to his huge spam of obsolete troops. I had Booty Call to my north and Raggy to the west, with Monty between me and him. I went after Booty Call first and that sneaky little Monty actually attacked where I told him and I will be darned if he didn't take 3 Celtic cities in 4 turns with an army of axemen & cats vs Booty's Muskets & xbows. She was too busy with my gnarly SOD to defend her rear against Monty. I took her other 7 cities because Monty's huge SOD of obsolete troops kept her main force running around her territory whittling them down so that I marched over her with my mace, xbow, musket combo.

Later on I went after Rags when I got rifles, cannons & cavs. Monty was there again with huge stacks of maces, pikes & knights. Rags had rifles & cav but no cannons yet. Monty tossed a 200+ unit stack into Rag's territory and took 2 cities before Rag wasted a significant portion of troops anihilating him. He sued for peace, but I cut his head off. Won that game via domination by invading the other continent later on

Montezuma is an idiot with feathers on his head.

So much Monty love >_>....although whenever he's my neighbor, unless I constantly bribe him into war before he goes into WHEOOH then he declares on me.

Unfortunately one game Monty figured out my plan and daggered me the the turn after he made peace with someone else :(.

Ragnar is worse because he will attack you regardless of how friendly you are with him, and he can keep up with tech unlike Shaka or Monty.

Ragnar will never attack you at Friendly. Boudica will never attack you at pleased (I heard Brennus is the same).

Both make very powerful allies, Boudica is the easiest, get her to pleased and she is just the same as most others are at friendly, and will meat shield you if you're good at diplo.

I Enjoy nothing more than starting with Boudica as a neighbor. She usually manages to get a religion, I convert to it, and I feed her military resources and techs and let her pound the AI into dust.

Only problem is if she gets to pleased status with everyone else, but that rarely happens.

Hammurabi is the only other AGG leader that wont backstab at Pleased, but his AI is terrible, he rarely builds up as big a military as Boudica, nor does he warmonger as much. Having him at pleased is more like having a sitting duck in your game - He wont do anything useful, similar to Sitting Bull.

Ugh. Montezuma. Not that idiot again. He's a bloodthirsty, people-whipping xenophobic that shouldve been hanged for insanity rather than rule. When I see his ugly skull wearing feather dusting face, I just want to punch my monitor inside out. He's the first I take out, provided I have the army for it.

Edit: I remember Boudica DOWing me at PLEASED. We were BUDDYS, *&$&! I sent 21 nukes on her butt, and now her mighty Celtic empire remained a mucelar wasteland.

He wont do anything useful, similar to Sitting Bull.

I have to take exception to that. I had to abadon the above game because Sitting Bull invaded with 4 stacks of Xbow, catapults, and maces with atleast 20 troops in each. A few turns laters Isabella joined him.

After sitting bull took two of my production centers I gave up.

Curse choosing an alternative relgions from the rest of the world.

Monty will

1.) Attack you, even if he loves you, if you are really weak

2.) Attack you, even if you are really strong, if he hates you

If you keep good relations AND a decent army, he will attack someone else. Easy as pie.

Or you could bribe him into attacking someone else, with any luck he will hate them so much by the end of their initial war that he will forget all about you, or you will at least have enough of a tech lead over him that it shouldn't matter. ;)

Oh yeah... he is a pathetically weak A.I. He became my first vassal for the last two games. I fed him techs and stuff and he was still hardly effective at wars. While he does keep a SoD around, he doesn't to use them aggressively. The only use I have for him is to soak up invasion forces.

By contrast, Kublai Khan seems much more effective as a vassal. There was this one game where I smashed pretty much all his forces before his capitulation. Then some turns later, he already reassembled a couple of SoD's and headed them straight to another civ (Ragnar) that I just DoWed on. For fun, I took out Ragnar's SoD's and sat back at my border cities to watch Kublai taking one Viking city after another.

lol just played a game where 7 civs declared war on him

Yeah, Monty's crazy and picks fight with everyone (even very powerful A.I.'s in multiple defensive pacts). There are a few times when he DoWed on a strong neighbour just to have his ass kicked and other A.I.'s joining in to grab a slice of his realm.

Shaka> Montezuma. Shakas hardcore. He rebelled from me after i capped him.

Any AI can declare war at friendly. What matters is their attitude when they started planing to attack you.

I had a game in RFC where Monty declared war on me at about 1/4 of my power and couldn't reach me. He's the biggest psychopath in the game but not the most dangerous. Shaka, Nappy, Ragnar are all more dangerous than Monty.

I've seen once Shaka being forced to kiss the ring of a AI, rebel and then capitulate his former master, and all of this without external intervention ;) It is the only AI leader I ever seen doing that in the stock game :p

I was on a huge custom continents map, and my continent was populated by Montezuma, Shaka, Isabella, and Ragnar.

I'm serious.
