I rolled a map that looks fun with Monty.
I did some slight alterations in worldbuilder to encourage unorthodox play. :)

And if you settle on the incense... This is what you can see in demographics T1. :)

I did a quick play up to ~T20 before going back to the starting save and making the alterations.
I'm almost certain this is isolation, but could be that we are reachable by sailing pre-optics.
There are some religious nutbags out there, because buddhism/polytheism goes early, but with settlement on incense and working oasis, gaining religion of choice should be guaranteed.
There are probably other ways to play this map too, but I'm feeling in the mood for some "Religious nutbag Monty"-RP, so thats likely what I'll do.

I'll dive into this game later tonight if I have time, but if someone wants to go ahead, do so!

Attached Buffy5 starting save with barb techs added, and also added the worldbuilder save in case someone wants to play w/o buffy.

Looks like great fun! Awesome cap!
Great to be spiritual for some weird diety iso stuff.. oracle CoL? Both for gp.. but also the cheap whip corthouse.

I’ll try and give this a go. I do enjoy isolation.

One route I’ve wanted to try out in iso is to build the Shwedagon Paya. If we already go and found Buddhism this might be the map for it! (Pray for Gold!)

@Nick723 I was thinking of Poly because of the marble.
ToAr failgold, and possibly Parthenon / GLib / Epics?
But Poly IS more expensive than meditation too, so it sets us back more.

*edit* One more small thing in favour of Poly, Hinduism has marble as req for it's cathedral (culture building) along with Islam.
Buddhism, Confu and Tao all requires copper.
Juda+Christianity requires stone.

So if you go Poly, you are guaranteed to have the resource to half-build the cathedral.
Not that copper is hard to get by though. :)
*edit*

Spi is very nice for the civic swaps, but here where you can found a religion the half price temples might come in handy too! :)
Capital looks nice... long term.
I'm very worried about the lack of production though. Almost no reliable power tiles.
Clam+Crabs+marble are all 4-yielders.
Only the sheep looks somewhat strong.

I don't think this is an easy map!

Step 1 : Produce a bunch of great priests
Step 2 : Apostolic Palace
Step 3 : UOS
Step 4 : Minaret
Step 5 : Joy!

Marble becomes a 5 yielder under OR :p
Spoiler :
and will be outside of the BFC anyways :smoke:

But yeah, where will settlers come from

GLH this turn, lucky shot :sheep:
Went Poly > Mining > Masonry
Grow to size 3 on a warrior > worker
Quarry > Bronze working > chop city 2 site forest
1 pop whip first settler > workboat
Barbs smash into cap fortified warrior. (forgot to add techs)
Sailing > Mono > TW > Pottery > AH

Where are we going

Nice @soundjata !
I had not thought about GLH, but that could be a very nice option here. I have scouted some islands.
Did you settle 3N to get insta-connection? You would have gotten insta-connection if you settled on the PH one north of the lake too. Lakes connected by rivers seem to count like they are on the river, pretty neat!

Where we are going... well. Not too sure about that. I picked this map, and doctored it abit precisely to make it abit unknown. What is best and what to do depends.

Settled 3N for first ring fish. Maybe not the best. Played very quickly :D

Spoiler T73 :

I went poly to found Hindu, then AH to unlock the best tile, after that I went mining to get another strong tile from mining the marble.
The worker is not happy about this choice, but he will get to mine a PH that won't be used for ages as consolation.
Civ4ScreenShot0000.JPG

These cities are auto-connected by the river+lake.
City2 built it's boat quick with the mined marble. Can't remember, but I think I did a 2pop whip for the other worker. They joined forces and chopped out 3 boats, two for the seafood and one for exploration.
Civ4ScreenShot0001.JPG

Got some nice production up in the end.
Not sure I did micro well here, I lingered at pop6 for quite some time, not making use of granary+whipping, but maybe it was good too, working the strong tiles.

Just when I was about to chop out the monument, I get religion. But I chop it anyway.
Civ4ScreenShot0003.JPG

I cleared the build queue in capital and City2 for many turns, was planning to improve the southern marble and land failgold into ToAr, but some fiend finished it in a distant land. :(
So rolled it onwards a few more turns to get OR bonus for the lighthouses.
Sailing and an offshore island gives a very nice boost to commerce as every city gets +2 commerce instead of just +1.

Now... I feel like I'm ages behind with GScientists, but I think I need to go priest->monarchy to lift the happycap... Or maybe just priest -> writing and be content with silver+religion+temples? Have to think about that.

Aha! Well, capital culture with the holy city should get the fish under culture quicly anyway, but maybe you got a quicker fish that way.

Thanks alot of playing along, hope you do enjoy the map!
Not common to fool around with OR this early, it's quite nice. :)

edit: I was curious about that and checked it with Great Spies. They all went for meditation, very strange. Think i had made a mistake, thought they are faster but looks like same turn.

I did run the first ~20 turns multiple times to check when religions went.
It was all T9 Buddhism, T11 Hindu, except for the rare odd game where it was buddhism T9 and Hindu still being unfounded T20.
Seems like the AIs favour Buddhism?

An extra coin by settling on a resource T0, and getting yet another bonus coin from working oasis or something should guarantee religion, if the AIs don't in turn get some bonus I think.
You trying out the map? :)

The start looks interesting. Monty's starting techs are a little painful for this start though, because no resource in the capital can be improved with Hunting. Plain sheep and clam are not amazing; the river is short as well. Even Pottery is far from Hunt + Myst. So it might require some "outside of the box" playing. Both GLH and Hindu are worth trying .

There is no early happiness resource, so the +1 :)- from state religion might be good. Nice discovery about that silver + double fish island :goodjob:

The land shape is... how to say, a little "expensive". I mean, the long and thin island makes some spots far from the capital, so the distance maintenance of some cities would be high. In comparison, if the island shape is round, people can settle cities like a circle around the capital, which reduces the maintenance costs.

Settling on that dry rice wouldn't be a bad idea. :twitch:

Ok, crazy religios strat: grow on FP.'s.. who needs workers and food tech anyways..

Tech path: pol, masonry, judeaism, then fish bw and oracle CoL. 3 religions and could easily get philo with a scientists thats 4. Then win a coulture victory 1600 AD? :D just when deity AI finds us.

Well the games apparently wants to compensate
Spoiler :
For my noobishness and it pops a gem :yumyum:

Now @krikav you do understand the strategic placement of Teotihuacan
Thank god it does not share the marble tile :please:

Work a brown mine for a turn. Roll the dice :mwaha:

Also look at those religion nutties :wow: GL to those attempting Oracle :twitch:

Barbs are a non issue because no archery for them :o

GLH paying good (no failgold) and we can enjoy 20 turns of research now.

A couple of scientists for Astro circa 135 are easy to get.

I think there should be no detour en route to Optics.

Next city spot unclear.
Crab for forests ; rice for health or sheep for closeness?
wait I just see it now looking at the screenshot. I killed a fish :wow:

edit: there's actually a little bit of a monster on this continent as well... :borg:
