More Mercantile Mod

Maybe, I'm thinking of maybe making Tobacco, and Furniture. Anyone have other ideas

How about soaps, perfumes, and glass?
EDIT: Honey is another great one. These have to be resources that are rare and/or are processed (like jewelry tobacco, and furniture) or require some knowledge to use (like honey or chocolate).

Glass would probably be better as a ressource that improves desert since there are so few of those.

I'd suggest Carpets/Tapestries if you are looking for another ressource. As they only spawn with mercantile city states, I guess you can't have too many of them anyways...

+1 vote for Carpets/Tapestries.

I think it would be better as a processed resource. While there is natural glass, it's usually not as good as man made glass.

So I'll be making tobacco (it's gonna be fun making the icon, cigars shouldn't be too hard to make!), glass and furniture.

I'm surprised no-one's mentioned Coffee yet. I reckon Coffee, Jade, Glass and the one I suggested, as well as existing proposals from you

I wouldn't suggest coffee (or tea, really) since they are both crops grown in many parts of the world. Chocolate, manuscripts, glass, and furniture are great as they require more "processing" to make.

Oh, I do agree it fits better from a realism standpoint with city states, but for gameplay reasons mixed with realism, it's one of the few that make sense for a desert tile ;)

We're going slightly off-topic at this point but I think fossils would work for that purpose. (and papyrus would work for flood-plains and marshes)

Just a little of topic, but this has got me thinking of possible additional bonuses that could accrue from Mercantile Resources. For example-Libraries & Universities could give bonus :c5science: or :c5culture: from the books received by Mercantile Civs ;).
Just a thought!

Aussie.

I *think* that would be possible - I'm not sure if the resource boosts are for ones worked by the city, in which case it would only work for Austria or someone who conquered the CS

They are. There's still a way to do what he wants through Lua though¹, but I'm not sure how expensive it would be performance-wise.

¹By creating a "hidden" building (doesn't appear in either civilopedia or city view screen, and is unbuildable) that increases Library Science output, and then create a Lua check which creates that building in the capital if the player has access to the Manuscripts, and if the player loses access to Manuscripts, the building is removed.

how well does this mod play with other mods such as city state diplomacy, minor civ's and other civ state mods? i like how this is coming along...

I've never tried using it with those mods. But it should work fine as long as how mercantile city states get their resources isn't altered (It only adds resources and doesn't mess with the city states themselves in any way).

Also, I've finished the icons for Furniture and Tobacco. Just glass left to go!

Excellent!

One suggestion: how about renaming "Tobacco" to "Cigars"? The icon fits perfectly, and since Cigars are a manufactured good that makes it more fitting as a mercantile city-state luxury resource.
I agree with this.
So...do we start making suggestions for future resources?

I'll change that later today then!

Sure! I suppose I'll be uploading it as a part 2 this time.
