While I'm no CNN fan, it is important to point out that they're still doing a service to the probably 80% of my countrymen who haven't a clue where France is in the world at all. At least they'll know it's in Europe by that map.
if they dont know where france is you cant trust them to know what europe looks like. i know people in America who havent seen a map other than one of America

AP and Reuters, I'd have to say.

The bias in FOX, Al-Jazerra, etc. is quite obvious. The bias in something like BBC or most European news sources is a bit more subtle. It tends to be located the degree of coverage various things recieve, not in editorial coloring. For instance, they do not outright say "America is evil" in their coverage, but they tend to give a disproportinate amount of coverage to things that make the United States look bad.

AP and Reuters, because they sell news to all over the world, seem to be the best.

I am sorry, but you are wrong. The BBC has no private agenda.
I watch the BBC World a lot and they give proportional TV coverage to both sides, and they DO not try to make the US look bad, never have

The BBC doesn't have any bias, has never had. They are pubicly funded and don't care about profit.
The BBC just tells the news as it is.
It's hard to make the US look good with Iraq going on without lying. Only FOx News can do that

It amuses me when people say the BBC has an anti-American agenda, for they are showing the truth (to the best of their knowlegde) and show balanced reports.

I am glad that I was one of the motivations of this thread. Me, Leha and RoboPig, that is  :woohoo:

@ComradeDavo. Ditto ... wouldn't American news sources have a pro-American bias, after all? :hmm:

I vote for the Independent too, though I sometimes watch the BBC news and occasionally listen to BBC radio.

the map is from google earth
The map is indeed from Google Earth. But the city locations are from CNN. Outside Britain and the US, Google Earth doesn't locate world cities.

At least none of you picked the New York Times, so there's still some hope for this board....

why dont you like the new york times? i think it is one of the best newspapers in the country. it probably is the best selling too.

Best-selling and most fair aren't necessarily the same thing.

FOXNews is the most watched cable news station.

Anyway, my vote goes to the AP.

Merely pointing out that the being bestselling and being fairest aren't true with the New York Times, just like they aren't true with FOXNews.

You can't argue with FOXNews being most watched, though.

its the most watched because the republicans who are half the country have only FOX as a strongly republican channel. democrats watch many different channels

After all the pro-war rants from the NY Times about France being the new evil and so on, I came to the conclusion that the NY Times was a lot too conservative to be considered neutral. ;)

I like the BBC. I watched FOX news twice and gave up. The 1st show was ok but the 2nd was about the London bombings and it was rubbish. Switched over to BBC:)

I havn't really given major thought about bias aside from the ones where the bias is ridiculously obvious (Fox News being the most notable, the other day one of the spin-shows was having a "debate" over something and instead of having a republican and a democrat they had 3 republicans arguing over just HOW the democrats were wrong, instead of whether they were wrong

That said, my favorite news source is The Economist.
