Belgium/Netherlands?

Belgium is my first choice, but the Netherlands isn't even in my top 5.

Btw,Magnus where did u live in CH?
I used to live in Davos,Graubünden(Grischa uf schwyzertüütsch) ;)

LOL - I have never had the pleasure of living there - I am just a Swiss voyeur, so to speak. :p

Germany! They produced the best cars in the world. They are the leaders of Automobile.Germany at first collapsed after WW2 and NOW U LOOK THEY had the largest economy in Europe.Speaking about WW2,I know NAZI was evil but u know German was once the "only superpower of the world" do u think they will be defeated if they werent outnumbered by USA and USSR?Britain will be finised if not for their help. For the first time in a history Europe was controlled by a single nation. dont misunderstand that I like NAZI.Present Germany invented a lot of high tech stuffs such as "DISTRONIC" is like a radar for the car to automaticly slow down or even brrake if u get too close of car in front, sure radar was invented much earlier than that but nobody really put that in a car and makes it work.Anti-lock brakes ,airbag was all invented by Germans!

I have personally live in Belgium, Germany, UK, Italy and Spain. I also visited many times France and a least once The Netherlands, Luxemburg, Portugal, Greece, Austria, Switzerland, Czech Rep, Hungary, Norway, Latvia, Andora... By lived I mean having stayed there at least a few months continuously, speak the language and have lived in local families, so as to know the people and the culture well.

I can say quite easily that Italy is the best everything included (climate, food, people, culture, history, nature, language...). France and UK come second. Spain has beautiful landscapes, but I don't like the food especially. Many Northern country are liveable but too cold and boring (except Norway that is quite beautiful).

Having growned up in Belgium, I don't understand why so many of you have chosen the Benelux. My Japanese wife however like Belgium very much (chocolate, waffles, Brugge, castles...). Holland in the Netherlands is slightly better than the rest - especially Amsterdam. But my top 3 is definetely Italy, UK and France.

It seems that you only think of eating!!

Actually, food is a small criterium for Italy as I can find good Italian in many other countries. Paris and London are probably the best culinary places in Europe. You can find everything : French, Italian, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Mexican, etc.

I especially judge the liveability and beauty of the country. But I guess if you don't speak Italian, Italy is not a good place to live. Same with France if you don't speak French. Both countries are quite chauvinistic and reluctant to speak anything but their native language - because they are suppose to be the most beautiful in the world as well !;)

I am sad that this poll has turned more in a contest of national pride than an actual election for the best country. What's more, some people here are not Europeans and might have never been to the country they vote for  ! Even in European, probably not many have the experience of more than a handful of countries, and still, just passing on a holiday. I guess the Northern European who say they have been to Spain because they stayed on a beach in Malaga or the costa del sol/blanca, cannot say they know Spain. It took me 2 months of travelling to know what Spain really was, because every region is so different ! I guess I can say the same for other countries as well.

I like my own contry (of cause) Denmark the best. It's very relaxed, not so many rules, the best social-security, and a very pleasent people - and good looking girls. Though the climate is often a bit too cold.

My second choise would be France, because of Paris (the nicest city of all) and generally nice climate and landscape.

Britain will be finised if not for their help

I take exception to this as Britain withstood 6 months of fighting against the Nazis at the height of their power, alone. I know that Fighter Command was falling apart but after Hitler changed his tactics to bombing the major cities it soon recovered sufficiently. Britain may not have been able of staging a D-Day style invasion alone but it was certainly not beaten when the Americans entered. This is not to sound like I'm not a appreciative of the American (eventual!!) entrance into the war. It is just that Britain has never been invaded since 1066 and I don't think the Germans would have changed that.

Well to be fair, Germany did occupy the Channel Islands which are part of Britain. But thats the closest anyone has gotten to invading Britain...

Don't you? In Netherlands, there are certain things what you can buy not from almost everywhere else.
Well, is that enough reason?

I voted for Italy, mostly because that's the country I've seen the most of (every province except Sardegna...) and I really like the food, the people, and the landscapes...However, I plan to live in one of the scandinavian countries after I graduate from college...

You shouldn't have included Belgium with the Dutch. I seriously find the Netherlands one of the best countries and Belgium one of the worst. Belgium is chaotic, a ****-up political system and hypocritical people. (Not everyone ofcourse. ;))

But I wouldn't have voted for the Netherlands either. I chose Finland. I've been there once (Oulu) and it's a very nice country. I believe their political system is somewhat equal to the Dutch one, which I find the best.
And the women...aw, the women...

I've truly seen the best looking women there, while I was only there for two weeks. I don't know why; I think it's the way they dress and make themselves up. Dutch women are also very beautiful, but they usually screw themselves (except for my girlfriend ofcourse), wearing awkward clothes and using scary make-up.

Anyway, I shouldn't make this into another women thread. It's just that is was one of the things that really struck me.
