MSMD: How to Create a Mod (video demo)

Hi
Great works :D

But where or from can I download the files ??

Hi
What free software is good to use and save *.dds ??

For some reason adobe photoshop cs 4 not working on my computer.
I also installed nvidia plugin for adobe photoshop to save *.dds format.

This is the problem;
When I save/paste to new file/picture with format *.dds I get only and always white.

So can some one help ??

EDIT 1;
I found the problem.
Be careful to choose a channel, when I get the right one I had no more problems.

Hello Kael,

Thank you for posting this extremely helpful video. I'm a Virginian living and working in Munich, Germany, as an English teacher. With that in mind, I am trying to create a mod for Civ 4:BTS on a computer with the German edition of Windows XP; CIV 4: Gold Edition was bought in America before I moved here, and I recently purchased the German version of Beyond the Sword.

The gameplay works great - I have had, however, quite a bit of trouble locating the XML files for Civ 4, Warlords, and BTS. I downloaded a mod and can see the XML files there, but not in the normal game files. I can open the custom assets folder (assets had nothing in it), then open the xml folder, but the folder looks empty. If I hold the mouse over the folder, it says it's "Leer" (Empty). Can anyone help me?

Thanks a million,

der Michael

PS. I don't know when I'll be able to check this thread again, so please feel free to PM me!!!

Thanks,

Mike

If there is another thread which would be better suited to my question, please let me know! :)

If you are having problems with the screen going red while watching the video, it is because your computer is running out of virtual memory. Take note of where you are in the video, refresh your browser and jump back to that point and you should be fine. Sorry for the inconveinance, Abode Captivate isn't the best tool in the world (if you guys know of a better screen capture tool let me know).
i didn't have the red screen problem, but whenever i was watching an episode, i did have a C++ Runtime Error come up (or something like that), which made my browser window refresh. any idea why this happened?

love the videos, though - incredibly helpful!!!

(if you guys know of a better screen capture tool let me know).
i'm not sure if it's better, but this website, ScreenToaster that i learned about in the latest issue of PCWorld is a website that allows u to capture ur screen w/out downloading any programs. the videos recorded are uploadable to YouTube even if u want. i figured it must be something good if it's worth mentioning in PCWorld, so i figured i'd let ya know about it.

I know this has been said beore, and it's a bit late in the day, put this Tutorial is fantastic, thank you Kael, my system failed a bit and couldn't see the whole video in one go, but gave me the ability to create my first Mod and now I'm flying!

Cheers again, keep an eye open for my epic Mods being posted soon! :D

I can't find a program that can convert a .JPEG into a .dds. Can someone help me? Phillip II is waiting.

I have tried create a new Civilization with this tutorial but it's a big failure (Peenemünde Civlization i have created):cry::cry::cry:

This project is brilliant! Is there any way to download these vids?

EDIT: ^; you should be able to make a shortcut in a similar way

A quick question...

In the second segment of "how to add a leader", the term, "button" is mentioned. Now, what exactly is a "button"? Is it just a sized down image of, in this case, Colbert, with an added border, or is it actually necessary? I don't know how to make one and I'm not really sure what it is. Could I just use the .dds pic of Colbert and that'd do the job just fine?

Basically, is the, "button," necessary?

By the way, I can't get into the third video segment because the video keeps going red a seconds in, hope that clears up soon.

that didnt work! i cant create a shortcut. what, does it not work on windows vista?

If you have Steam, shortcuts won't work. (btw, sorry I didn't have time to view your previous posts if you already took care of this, I'm in a hurry).

What you need to do is just do the whole "mod=" thing and go to the Steam "My Games" tab, go to "Launch Properties", and type in the mod. Then, launch the game.

Nice tutorial mate :)

Lookin forward to start XML modding!

PS I got a prob tho.... my leaderhead doesn't show up....

I check the shortcuts and everything but it won't work...

The leaderhead is just purpl......

is it anything to do with the fact that my DDS file doesn't have an icon?
