[MULT] Pitboss Worldbuilding Challenge REBOOT: Discussion Thread

Looks fine. I'll take dark green if that's okay.

Edit: Well, it looked dark in the color selection, but it looks light here. But oh well, I'll take it.

I'll take gold

Edit: Okay, just so I don't do anything stupid, tomorrow I load up Civ 5, with both expansions and no dlc, go to multiplayer->pitboss->internet and then find whatever you name this thread and join? Sorry I've never done any pitboss thing and I don't want to ruin this the first go round ;)

I'll take Red, I guess
The plan for running the server sounds good; however, has everyone pinned down their Civs? I'm likely to go as Poland/Poland-lookalike, unless someone else wanted that.

Good thing you asked! It'll be a private game so you'll need my IP address. I'll post a step by step tonight when I open the game. I cant right now because I'm out .

EDIT: I'd say the rule should be first come first served. Don't copy anyone else's civ when you join the lobby.

Sounds good to me. Oh, wait, I'm not writing a story yet.

Alrighty the game is up and ready to go! Please join the lobby tomorrow so that we can start at midnight.

Here is a step-by-step list of what you need to do to join:

1) Open Civilization 5

2) Click on Multiplayer

3) Click on Pitboss

4) Click on Internet

5) At the bottom of the screen, in the box that says "Connect to Private IP" type in the box 72.49.107.14

6) Press Enter Key

7) Change the difficulty to King

8) Click check mark to indicate ready status

My only problem with the time is that it is 5am for me... And won't be able to leave my computer on that long (it has a tendency to overheat...)

Edit: Ok, I'm going to brave the waters of commitment and set an alarm for that time :P

I may be mistaken on the need to leave the game up. I just noticed that if I join and check ready than leave the box changes from green back to normal on the observer's screen. Should've done a little test to verify last night.

Registering as replacement sub #1 now, this looks like it might've solved the last game's problems.

You don't want to hop in as a "regular" player?

And also, can we run a test on the necessity of leaving Civ running after we join the Pitboss game? If I try to do that my computer will certainly blow up.

What should I do if it says "Error joining multiplayer"? I did it in the morning, it did it so I shut down and tried to do it just now, but still didn't work. Any suggestions?

I'm having the same problem. :(

I'd join as a player I just didn't know if it was too late. The only other issue is my internet is spotty for the summer (moved to Washington for the summer for a job, using a 4g phone as router) so if a constant connection is needed I'd be flat out disqualified.

If I'm correct, you don't need a constant connection, at least once the game is started. I believe that in a a pitboss game you only need to be connected when it's your turn.

9) Leave game up so that we can launch at midnight. (You will be able to close out once the game starts).

If you can't leave the game up for extended periods of time (if you share your computer for instance). I recommend waiting until the end of the night to join. Just be sure to be in the lobby and ready at Midnight -5 GMT (Eastern Standard Time).

192.168.*.* is a private IP address internal to your home network. whatismyip.com is likely the easiest way to find the IP your ISP has assigned you. If you have a firewall on your router, you might have to open some ports for pitboss, though I've never set it up so I couldn't tell you which. Edit: And forward that traffic to the correct internal computer, likely the 192.168 address you already listed.

Ah darn. As I said, I'm not very experienced with pitboss. Ports and such are forwarded, just gave the wrong IP address. It worked for my game so I assumed it was the right thing. I'll be posting the IP later, as I'm at work right now. Sorry guys. We will postpone until tomorrow night at Midnight then.

EDIT: Since you have signed up before the game you can just join as a player rather than sub if you'd like kobo1d.

EDIT: Also, in my experience with civ iv pitboss you can close once the game has started. I'm just not sure if everyone needs to be in the lobby for us to start initially.

All should be ready for a launch tomorrow night at midnight. The ip adress is: 72.49.107.14

Updated list of how to connect:
Spoiler :

1) Open Civilization 5

2) Click on Multiplayer

3) Click on Pitboss

4) Click on Internet

5) At the bottom of the screen, in the box that says "Connect to Private IP" type in the box 72.49.107.14

Tested it, no need to leave the game up. All kinks are hopefully ironed out. I added a player slot for kobo1d, as well as another city state. Fingers crossed everything goes as planned. I'm ready to get this started!

No need to leave the game as in I can log in, choose my civ etc and then log out, therefore not needing to be on at 5 in the morning?
