Multiplayer hack?

How did you bully all these cs? You need a pretty large army compared to other civs and near their border too. Did you start with units only?

I'm trying to bully just 1 of them in some GMR games but no luck yet.

It's actually very easy to bully CSs in MP games, especially ones that are set to below Deity level for the AIs (Ie - just CSs).

You just need a military around the average power of everyone else and have some of it close to the CSs (amusingly a single scout worked once).

The CS also needs to be at 4 pop, etc. It's all listed in the UI on the CS screen.

If there's enough CSs around, it's very simple to bully all of them very quickly for lots of gold.

Never really tried to bully cs in a large way. Very interesting but still kind of cheesy isn't it? This UA is already very powerful in hands of deity AI.

About question : Nope. Never heard of that.

My question though, has anyone encountered mp.hacks?

Yes. In vanilla I was dueling a guy, the reloading screen popped up without the ususual lag/stickiness before the loading screen pops up, and he had 10s of thousands of gold. In a different vanilla FFA, same sudden loading screen several turns in a row, and they player had 2 extra policy trees filled out.

MP games are usually played in prince. So city states, arent as powerful as if they were in deity, they usually come in with 1 military unit and 1 worker for the first half of the game, in late game they usually have 3 military and 1 worker.

I feel like bullying city states is much better than testing the luck with the spanish. City states will always be there, unless of course if the host removes/decreases the number of them, but so far, i have liked bullying the city states for early cash(of course i dont do this the entire game, city states still provide bonuses for non-austria civs :P )

hmm interesting, I have never encountered anyone cheating, or perhaps I wasnt paying close attention.

I usually only get 1000-1500g in the first 40-50 turns, but after i reached 2000g people started thinking how in the world was i getting these huge ammounts of gold. after too much name calling, I had to tell them I was bullying the city states I even told them I "found el dorado" when I didnt, just to calm them a little down.. but still it seemed too much for them :(

So now I am known as "The Legendary Austrian" (yea i changed my user name)
The most feared Austrian player on MP etc etc.. lol

In order to bully city states, you need to be first or second in overall military and have military units within a certain distance of those city states. In order to get 1000-1500 gold in the first 40-50 turns, you would have to 1. find 10 city states to bully. 2. Move your troops close enough to those 10 city states to bully them. This requires an early outlay of troop building to make sure you have the military lead.

Austrians as far as I know, do not have any special ability in regards to city state bullying and in fact are the worst civ to use to bully because it cancels any outstanding quests they may give you and delays new quests until they are not angry with you which means your odds of diplomatic marriage early just went down.

If you wanted a "Legendary" way to bully CS play as Aztecs. They start off top in military due to the Jaguar worth more "military" in the demographics and can more easily regain the top by building more Jaguars.

Seems like there are several multiplayer threads floating around that as Darcy in Pride in Prejudice would say "It is often only carelessness of opinion, and sometimes an indirect boast." Give reproducible and provable results of your strategy, test it against other players that are good at multiplayer (for instance ask around for games in CivPlayers or NQ chat), then bring those back to let others compare the results. The same applies if you think there is a multiplayer hack floating around.

For a worker that is true, but you can bully them for gold before they hit 4 pop, and oftentimes it is more advantageous in multiplayer to do the gold because on quick speed worker = 220 gold which is 2.44 bullies (90 gold is the default start for bullying of CS on quick, ancient) = 37 CS hatred versus 50 CS hatred for bullying a worker.

Most often in MP competitive games I have seen difficulty set to Emperor in order to avoid truely cheesy anti-CS tactics while at the same time not giving an automatic win to Austria which will happen on deity when they get one or two diplomatic marriages and the attendant military units from the deity CS.

And more often we play emperor level.

i bullied all the cash from all 12 city states getting 2000 gold in the first 40 turns, and ppl accused me of hacking the game . . . everyone left when i told them i had 30 happiness

How can you get 30 happiness by turn 40? I'm skeptical. Especially if you bullied all the Mercantile CSs...

Well I have done this about 70-100 games now(about 60-70% as aztecs, the rest Austria). I have played versus the best of the best, and noobiest of the noobiest.. (islandia you are one of them, unless you arent a good player :P )

But I dont want to discuss my strategy :P
Telling you about bullying city states has probably already opened some minds..here in the forums..
so I dont wish to continue this topic :P

I kind of just mentioned it because how could people think I was hacking !

So which is it? Are you the legendary Austrian or the legendary Aztec? I do not claim to be the best of the best in Civ 5 (nor for that matter do I claim to be the noobiest of the noobiest). I have not played Civ 5 nearly as much as I did previous incarnations of Civ due to life becoming busier and more grand.

However, I do not believe we have played unless your nickname in Steam or in game is something else. I very rarely play lobby games, so if we have played it would have been in a NQ or GMR game. What is your steam id and when did we play? Isn't the point of discussing Civ strategy to allow everyone to get better so that you have better competition?

Seriously , you changed your name ?
I wouldn't have. I d rather have the name of those n..players who can't accept being outplayed , name and shame them !
Even if you found an abuse , it is still interresting to learn about it instead of calling cheats!

I m even more suprised that they don t already know about you, I mean it s not like civ fanatics is basically THE forum for Civ ...
Even I know you ve been hardcore gaming/tweaking austria for the past months ,claiming to have found the supper dupper uber strat with them in a couple of threads :)
