Poland is in Canada!

Tyo and Thorvald, get off your asses and approve my loan.

It should be noted that World Bank loans assume yeas from all three chairs if a nay has not been specifically stated.

The real moral of the story is: don't anger the chairs.

Alternatively, bribe the chairs to deny loans to your enemies.

Yes I'm encouraging corruption. Welcome to politics. :D

OCC: Damn it, now I am completely confused by all the Avatar changes. I thought for a second Chirstos was posting that and I was very confused.

Also, what does Doohdtf mean?

“This is Kathy Winters, ICN, reporting live from Imperium City. Behind me, you can see the Shipyards and the Olympic Stadium, both being prepared for the Opening Ceremony tomorrow.”

Taylor eyed the television with mild interest. The princess popped a powdered donut into her mouth offhandedly, stroking her cat with her free hand. The animal seemed irritated that her human wasn’t paying so much attention to her and began rubbing herself against Taylor’s arm.

“We’ve just received exclusive reports that the ANV Roadrunner and the ANV Gulliver will be completed in time for the Games, and will participate in the Opening Ceremony under the direction of Captain Roland Daykin off Roadrunner

Taylor straightened up a bit as a picture of the captain appeared on the screen, but paused for a moment to giggle at herself. Giggling was so unladylike – she never let herself do it in public.

“You do sound a lot like a little girl when you do that,” Stavros chuckled from the back of the room. Taylor rolled her eyes.

“You’re such a bad influence on me, Stavros. It was you who encouraged me to ski and get into the Olympics!”

“Because you’re just that good, princess,” Stavros replied. “Don’t forget that. It’s not because you’re the Emperor’s daughter.”

“Oh, of course not,” Taylor chuckled.

“The Imperial government has made incentives for significant foreign investment around Imperium in the weeks leading up to the Games,” Winters said, gesturing to a massive banner for some London-based corporation. “Various companies are beginning to develop considerable amounts of branches in the Imperium area, boosting the local economy significantly. Imperium is becoming the largest trade hub on the East Coast.”

The Somalis are invited to the Olympic Games in Winter 3010 like erryone else.

Ron Paul is happy that normalized international relations have returned. We have taken this solemn time to rethink our tax structures in order to best fit an anarchist economy. Ron Paul says he is encouraged that the Olympics will allow the Somalian people a chance to earn some national pride. Our national finest are being sent.

We hope this will lead to an opportunity for great trade between the nations. To faciliate this spirit, Dr. Ron Paul will be Present at the Olympics in order to tell people about his anti-state, anti-war, pro-market views.

A transmission has apparently been interrupted from the Soviet Union:

The Moscow Informant

Stalin's Personal Page:

Greetings comrades! Over the next 5 years, we will make an impressive leap forward in the areas of science and military technology. The glory of the true USSR will be reborn! With our new five year plan, we will send our strong, brave young men to venture forth into the wilderness. The irradiated and abandoned land will become new, and our power and glory will surely make those capitalist dogs cower in their Chinese-made shoes.

I would also like to point out that I have, in my infinite knowledge and wisdom, created a recipe for Cockroach Beer. The recipe is under constant guard in the Kremlin. We do use our own, freshly harvested cockroaches, however.

Public Announcements:

Are you hungry, poor, and without employment? As a standard Russian citizen, you must be wondering what you can do to help the Glorious Soviet Union! Worry no longer - your destiny is calling! Join the Red Army today, and together we will crush all opposition and bring glory to the Motherland!

Due to popular demand, cockroaches are in short supply. The Government is issuing ration orders. We apologize for the inconvience, and solutions are being worked out to find a new supply. (*Hungrily Eyes Formatics*)

[Note 2: Oz, will you send me crates of Formatters to feed my people? The USSR would greatly be in your debt..]

If Somalia isn't a state, then it doesn't exist.

UN cartographers need to get on the ball on this one.

now, now, Somalia is a territorial entity even if it is not a sovereign state entity. Our historians and casual observors for example refer to the fact that city-states technically are not sovereign states along the lines of the traditional state system, and that the city-leagues of the second millenium in northern europe likewise were not traditional states even though they were territorial.

Somalia in Katterlands estimation is more like a modern-day incarnation of those ancient city-leagues, although with more trappings of the sovereign state such as a central authority who can legitimately make deals with other Heads of State.

I think it goes without saying how much frustration I'm having giving the right orders to whom due to the early April Fools' avatar switch.

I was contemplating switching to you and making a snarky comment, but there are lines even I will not cross.

Most Serene Republic of Riccio

HQ of Riccio Corp.

Leader: Jules Ogilvie

History: Riccio as a state dates back approximately two centuries. Nestled in the Venezia region of Italy, it wielded the influence expected of such an advantageous position, using its powerful fleet to control trade in the Mediterranean and expanding to cover much of Terraferma. In the international, quasi-digital society of the prior decades, the Republic has been able to secure a commercial supremacy for itself.

Low taxes and large amounts of financial incentives and opportunities have made Riccio a diverse, service-based economy, often driving it into direct competition with other businesses. Practically any industry has a company in Riccio, and Riccio is a popular location for businesses to build their headquarters. The Riccio Conglomerate is naturally the most well-known, having dozens of subsidiaries with global reach, the wealth pouring back into the state coffers.

Riccio's commercial diversity spills into its social life, and it is known for surprising tolerance and stability. The state is divided into many cultural zones, but nearly every citizen knows Latin and English.

Expanded information on Riccio:

Government: Riccio is a crowned Republic, with the head of state (the Doge) also presiding as the head of the church. Despite this, there are plenty of laws protecting secularism, given the dominant faith is known for its tolerant dogma. The Doge shares his terrestial power with a one-hundred member unicameral legislature, though he himself is popularly-elected. The Doge is not required to be of the Ventine faith, though any candidate for the position must pass an examination on the faith's ideals.

Language: True to its Italian roots, Latin holds great currency, but English also enjoys official and national status. There are hundreds of smaller languages in each of the communities.

Ethnic makeup: Due to its strategic location and the international character of its enterprises, immigrants from nearly every corner of the world have at least some presence in the Republic. Those of the "Demon" race make up about one-fifth of the population, but hold nearly half of the offices, and two-fifths of the wealth. It is no surprise the state is often called a spiritual successor to the Demon Realm, due to the clout expatriates of that fallen empire wield.

Religion: The dominant faith is the Ventine Creed, which worships the Wind God, Ventus. Monotheistic, air is considered the most sacred of the four elements, granting organisms the oxygen they require and guiding the sails of trade. Ventus is an omnibenevolent being, albeit strictly non-interventionist, and is said to have crafted the wind specifically to allow sapients to come into contact with eachother and foster brotherhood and understanding. Accordingly, the faith also has strict ideals of pacifism and a doctrine of non-interventionism.

Foreign Policy: Shaped directly by its origins and cultural components, the Republic does not pay attention to foreign affairs without reason. Any humanitarian desires are insulated by the necessity to keep trade flourishing, and foreign policy is accordingly primarily centered on securing trade routes with fleets and investing in poor nations.

Blu McEngie looked down at the torrents of water raging below him. The river, fueled by the Monsoon rains was racing towards the coast much as it had for the past few years. Blu Could remember the old days though. Blu had been one of the original construction workers, and he still remembered the great sense of community in which the vast constructions below him had been raised up.

Blu wished that community still existed. The civil war had torn it apart, inflicting vast gashes on society that even the Watermen coudld do little to help. The last 6 years had gone some way to restoring the holes, but there were some things only time could heal. Even now, the elections had been scarred with the old debates and arguements, things that could have ripped the country apart if left untouched.

The Ministry of Public Works did not leave things untouched. In the same way repair crews were dispatched to the floodbanks when problems surfaced, small groups of watermen had been sent to the troubled areas. They could do what even the hand of the police could not: restore trust. The lives and property of every man woman and child in the nation depended on the Waterman, and they were trusted by the entire nation to proveide equal attention to all. The Watermen patched holes.

Holes in society as well as buildings.

McTavish scowled out of the window at the pouring rain. "Its about damn time." He told the ensign who stood next to him. "This little floating target's needed a refit with actual weaponry almost longer than it's been in one piece, and it's taken them five years to find the funds already. Not exactly inspiring us with their devotion to defending the seas is it?"
"Well at least they built a navy" McShoutout pointed out "lots of countries out there without even this much in the way of modern warships."
"Guess it makes sense that we pay the water a bit more attention, but I never figured this outdated pile of scrap would count as advanced." McTavish made a face. "Good for us though, I never thought we'd get our priorities so much more right than all those other powers out there."

McShoutout nodded, the water was one of the places he could be proud of what his country had accomplished. A slowly growing navy it might be, but it was as modern as any other. In fact, the UN had described it as one of the most powerful in the world, something which came as quite a shock to the crews who understood just how limited their weapons were in comparison to what was really available.

-----

Greedo smiled at the charts before him. Behind his chair, his office window looked out on a growing field of skyscrapers, almost all of which had been constructed by his company. Throughout Bengali his country had been one of the fastest growing, quick to move into the new markets the government was opening and still keeping pace with growing demand in 'older' territories at the same time.

This was just a tiny part of the changes though. The fact that he was still getting jobs was proof that people trusted their new defences aginst the water would last long enough to make buildings worth building, a huge change from 10 years ago when the floods had still ravaged the country. Now buisnesses were demanding shopping centers and office blocks, factories and warehouses, all the infrastructure the company needed to develop into a truely modern economy.

It was a growth rate that everybody loved. Everything seemed to be getting better. An air of confidence existed that extended beyond buisness into every are of life, with even the basic welfare systems of the Liberal government pushing up life expectancy and pushing down poverty. The rise of Greedo was simply a particularly powerful example of somebody for who life had improved dramatically, and he loved it as much as the next man.
