Multipolarity III - Game Thread

In order to support the Pope, we (and all of our clients) will embargo Manx.

Take that for calling us terrorists. If you want an end to the embargo, stop calling us terrorists.

>Part one says the embargo is to support the Pope
>Part two says the embargo is due to being called terrorists

Looking forward to a possible schism. :mischief:

@Tani: You were pre-empted by the rise of the Babylonian Antipope (also known as the whore of Babylon :p ). Also I don't comprehend Christos' support for the embargo, but I presume he's just using the (hopefully temporary) excommunication as an excuse to let out his other grievances.

-the following is a TV broadcast with the Emperor Gilmore-

Attention subjects of this world! I am here to declare my responce to the "excommunication" by the "Pope" Pius XXV.

I am a man of faith who serves God. I offered to defend the Church. I offered to help the Church. We had a disagreement over a new power which I see as a potential ally. With the Pope's declaration that I am not of my Divine Right... I questioned him. Now he responce with heresy against the natural order of God. I am here because God made me. I am the agent of God, the First Among Mankind. He now calls for disoreder in my land! I issue the Pope this: redeem yourself and remove the mark of excomunication. That is the order of God, for I am the agent of God!

In stance to the Pope's disrespect of sovereigns... which I hope he redeems himself for... I issue the formation of a entente of will: the Order of Sovereigns. This organisation is for states of authoriterian will that strive to maintain order, the fruit of God. I issue this to stand against the evils of chaos. It is the only way in this harsh world to stand! We must unite to deter the evils of those who want war or who dare wish to bring us back to the State of Nature viva their disrespect for soverientry! The Pope especilly should heed this.

Further more I declare that my people must be of reason and piety. Hence they must see the heresy of denouncing Gilmore Flanagon, who was chosen to lead Mann viva Divine Right. I do not want war or chaos. Hence I, a man of piety, whose soul is safe guarded by my efforts against the evils of chaos, declare full rights to pretestants and members of the Imperial Church of Man which has been forced to remain underground to allow our links with the Pope. I also declares that Catholics, such as my wife, should consider the judgement of whether to side with the defender of the faith or a man in Rome who needs remembering that I was chosen by Divine Right. I am no heretic. My rights to protestents is a sign of the Christain brotherhood. Let us stand against those who pervert the word of Christ! Damnation to that who dares stand against the armies of Christaindom! Glory to the Imperium of Man who serves as the vanguard of Christaindom!

Glory to the people of Mann! Glory to the Lord! Glory to the good faithful flock of Christ! We will stand against the perverters! We will stand against the warmongers! We will stand against the heretics! We will stand against the infidels! We will... stand for the order of God! Give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and give to God what belongs to God. I am of God and Caesar. I am the Emperor of Man. I am servant only to our Lord. If anyone does not heed the love of the Lord then let them be accused! I am of the love of the Lord! Excomunication by hands of the Pope is against the love of the Lord! I heed that the Pope should redeem himself if he wants to be saved from Hell!

I will not go to war over this issue. I am safe guarded by Christ the Saviour. I will follow Christ word and defend thy honour of God. I will not bow to fools. I am a sovereign, a sheperd to lead a part of the mightly flock for the grand sheperd of Jesus! I am Gilmore Flanagon, the First Among Mankind.

I am... but a servant to God.

Japan, although not a Catholic country, has some Catholic communities that have wholeheartedly rejected the Manx heresy. The government of Japan acknowldges that there is some true in the Pope's words, and is disgusted by the continuous displays of arrogance and stupidity of Manx. Having secured a much closer source of iron ore and metals in Hyontou Manchuria, we wish to cease from giving fiscal benefits to Manx goods.

We loathe the Imperium and more specifically the Emperor. We would like to state that should the Papal States be attacked, Japan will send aid.

OOC: Lovely excommunication. Ailedhoo, I must say you've played your cards in the worst way possible.

This is NOT an embargo, but the nullification of our previous trade agreement.

In relative news: we wish to apoligise to Bosnia for our past errors with them. We will open trade and perphapes a defence pact.

Romania has issued a statement on its perspective of vampirism.

As is known, all vampires in Romania that fed upon human blood were given a choice to either convert to animal blood, donated blood, or face execution. Many a rogue Romanian has gone abroad to assassinate those who murder humans for sustenance.

Vampires, as defined in Romanian law, are beings who have been crafted from sentient beings, and who gain sustenance from the consumption of blood. The exact qualities of vampires vary, but they share this one unifying trait. Whereas some see vampirism as an endowment of higher status, the government of Romania sees vampirism the same was as any other power over one's fellows: it is to be used for their benefit, a gift for not just oneself but all others.

To understand the logic of the Cullen Dynasty is not difficult. When a man is given cybernetic implants, does he gain the right to eat his fellows? Tear them apart? When a man is given any power at all over his fellows, does he gain the right to abuse and belittle them? Or is he supposed to accept not just these enhanced abilities, but responsibilities towards his fellows that come with it?

We sent the Volturi to the bowels of Hell for a reason during the Battle of the Dawn. Their doctrines of vampiric superiority and secrecy were enormously obsolete; our doctrines of peaceful coexistence and comradmerie with non-vampires are far more adequate and reasonable.

Vampires have been given a gift. And it must be used well.

OOC: Yes I am giving the Cullens some actual moral fiber and logic. :p

Though we do not claim divine right as the basis of our rule, we do claim stability. As such we may be interested in an alliance with Manx at some point in the future. However, Marshal Bowser's first concern is the seizure of Mexico. Hopefully Solitude shall avoid colonising southern California to avoid shedding of blood.

Angry Catholic mobs in Okinawa have assaulted Manx ships in the port, dumped their cargo, killed the crews and ruined their hulls. Response to the Excommunicate Gilmore Flanagan.

-

The Holy Father has charged me, High Inquisitor Ximines, to explain to the faithful, lest scandal ensue, the doctrines of tge Catholic faith which Gilmore Flanagan willfully has rejected, and which he obstinately persists in upholding despite multiple admonitions from the Holy Father himself. We are of course saddened by his heresy, afterall Mann has been stalwart in the Catholic Faith for many years now, with good relations existing under previous Emperors. It is particularly sad how, like all heretics, he rages against the Church of God instead of looking at himself for his own sanctification, showing himself to be full of that primordial sin, Pride, in its most ancient manifestation, disobedience to divine law.

It would be scandalous therefore to deny him remedial correction out of the love of God, lest he persist in his heresies of considering himself equal to, or superior to the authority of Gods own Church and the Vicar of Christ himself, and associates himself and refuses to disassociate himself from profane enemies of God. Excommunication is a medicinal action of charity, informing the heretic of his error and giving him the opportunity to assess his sins and repent.

For the benefit of the Manx people and for all Catholics, and so they are not confused as to the teaching of Holy Mother Church and lest they be decieved by the Emperors heresy, I will clarify precisely the dogmas the Emperor in his hubris has broken.

Dogma 143: According to Christ’s ordinance, Peter is to have successors in his Primacy over the whole Church and for all time.

Furthermore as we know the Church is the society of all christians and it is a certain truth that the Church is a perfect society. It is the doctrine of the faith, that the Emperor is bound to by his baptism and confirmation that the Pope, as the successor of Peter and the Vicar of Christ has primacy over the WHOLE Church for all time by supreme divine right. As a member of the Church the Emperor therefore comes under his authority and his divine right to rule is transcended by the office of the Holy Father as vicar of Christ, within which exists the supreme divine right of authority over those who dwell in the Lords creation. The Vicar of Christ, as the representative of Christ on earth, uniquely of all men speaks with the authority of Christ himself, and universally over the society of christians has the power of binding and loosing. As it is written, "thou art peter, and on this rock I shalt built by Church, to you I shall give the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven, and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shalt be bound in heaven, and whatsoever thou shalt loose on Earth shalt be loosed in heaven" (Matthew 16:18-19). The Emperor as such is in clear violation of this dogma with his heretical understanding of the nature of divine right, which is a clear product of hubris. For in proclaiming himself superior to the vicar of Christ himself, he in truth is repeating the primeval sin of our first parents in seeking to usurp the place of God himself in disobedience to HIS authority which is invested in the Magisterium of the Church, of which the Pope is primate and its supreme head.

Furthermore as Dogma 145 notes "The Pope possesses full and supreme power of jurisdiction over the whole Church, not merely in matters of faith and morals, but also in Church discipline and in the government of the Church." The Emperor therefore as a Catholic is under the Popes authority in the discipline and governance of the Church. His attempted association with profane and infernal forces, namely the Empire of Blood, and his heinous conduct in trade, selling weapons indiscriminately no matter the nature of the buyer is a violation of the discipline of the Catholic faith and thus the Holy See has the authority to admonish him, and urge him to repentance, and to excommunicate him should he persist.

Finally lest anyone doubt the Emperors error. Dogma 150 clearly outlines that "In the final decision on doctrines concerning faith and morals the Church is infallible." and as such the infallible dogmas of the Church, and the judgements of the ordinary and universal magisterium are superior to the opinions of men, and are to be held definitively by all the faithful as authoritative. The Emperor has placed his opinions, in his pride, over the infallible teaching of the Church, which as Dogma 138 which clarifies that "Our Redeemer Himself conserves with divine power the society founded by Him, the Church." with this being both in temporal existence, and in doctrinal purity.

Considering this, it is my sincere wish that the Emperor recant his heresy and return to the society of Christians and the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church, for it is known as elucidated in dogma 157 "membership in the Church is absolutely necessary for salvation."

To the country of Japan.

Your failure to uphold law and order is most a crime indeed. I suggest you pay the families of those Manx killed. It would be a sign of your sin to not honour the victims. We will though set our merchent ships to Tsingtao to trade with you still: free trade after all requires your ports to be open to corporations, including Manx ones. Consider this for the wealth of the populace.

I hope you understand the Emperor's position.

Hopefully, Solitude shall avoid colonising southern California to avoid shedding of blood.

This is an.. ..odd change of attitude. At first, you seem eager to wage war against us and now you seek peace. This bipolar tone is puzzling coming from Bowser. Since we have an interest in that region. Would you be willing to part with the area around Vegas or avoid settling in that area of Nevada and we'll hand over San Diego and avoid encroaching into your borders.

We want trade and a NAP. By the way, we know border each other.

We would like to point out that it is Gilmore Flanagan's fault only that the ever pacific people of the Ryukyu became so infuriated as to commit such crimes. We are devoted to the reunification of Japan, and until now no native had been found responsible of a single crime in Okinawa, and thus our law-enforcement policy and agency is extraordinarily lax and diminished in the island. We also warn the Manx that should they want to continue trade with Japan, they better cut down the belligerent and arrogant nature of their communiques.

Attention subjects of the Imperium! Baron Lonan Nelson of Rushan and his family have vanished from his halls of residence! We have no idea of his presence but we are issuing all to look out for him at this time! Rumours are present but we must find out! Information on where he is will be rewarded! Help us track down Lonan!

OOC: in relative news I am planning to kill off Gilmore. A good old fashion assassination will do the trick. I suggest one of the Imperium's allies to do the job to make it more iconic... although someone else may end up blamed...

Caliph Rologhine ibn Firi watched from the Majestic Palace as another Manx trading vessel was pulled into port. It is the third Manx ship to arrive since the embargo was declared by his predecessor, but the ship didn't arrive to trade. "Sala, what do you see?" Firi asked his first wife.

The woman, a Sicilian immigrant, spoke Arabic with a notable accent, "Signs. People. They're angry. What are they saying, beloved husband?"

Caliph Firi smiled, "Death to the False Emperor Flanagan. God is Good, God is Great. The Christians have the best chant. Listen."

Sala leaned out over the balcony and turned her ear toward the sound, "Death to the Whore Worshipper." She laughed. Sala was a recent convert, before this being a Roman Catholic. "The heresy picked a terrible position, didn't it?"

Caliph Firi shrugged, "I am not in tuned with the theology as I should be, but in so many words, yes."

The Algerian soldiers boarded the newest vessel, searching for weapons. As with the last two trading vessels, weapons are seized, and the ship turned around to head back to Manx. So for, there have been no incidents other than the throng of protesters damning Manx, the False Emperor, and its people for all it is worth.

"The sailors are lucky the protesters don't just board the ship," Firi mused. "The soldiers would probably let them tie a rope around each neck and kick them over the side of the ship. Some soldiers would even join them."

Sala sighed and returned to the bedroom from the balcony. The Royal, formerly Presidential, bedroom was modest, but Sala had plans to change all of that soon. She sat in a plushy armchair, "But the False Emperor would cry and demand reparations."

Firi watched the soldiers go into the belly of the ship to inspect it. When they were out of sight, he turned and smiled, "So? The False Emperor has no room for recourse. Their pathetic navy can not hurt us, Japan, and Canada at once. If his sailors died, well, they shouldn't be sailing near our waters."

"This could end badly."

"So could have the coup." Firi came back into the room and hugged his wife, "But we pulled that off. Algeria is safe; do not worry."

There is a knock on the door. Firi untangled his arms from his wife, rubbed out some creases in his clothes, and ordered the messenger in. "News from Manx. A baron and his family have missing."

Firi shrugged, "This could be interesting, but it will not matter. The Papacy will continue to levy heavenly sanctions against each new false emperor until they have begged forgiveness, until then-" Gunshots erupted from the docks, "Until then, what happens in Manx is something I no longer care about."

Emperor Gilmore has declared his plan: before his break to Tropico he will make a visit to Bowser to ask him to join the Order of Sovereigns. Grenada has been invited to join the allaince.

Meanwhile rumours state that Lonan Nelson and his family have been sighted in Brittany. These are but rumours but it has gain concern for the imperial office.

OOC: the state visit is going to be a epic chance to assassinate Gilmore. I give Robert permission to do the assassination. The Emperor is travelling via ship.

Respectfully pinned to the carcass of a dead sparrow marinated in mulled wine was a small blue envelope. It was then packaged in a small box and then wrapped in brown paper and tied with string. At this point it had attached to it a small label affixed with a stamp from 2234 bearing an image of the great towers of Sarajevo as they had been back in 21st century.

This small parcel was then placed in the Sarajevan postal service - arguably the most efficient postal service in the world employing of an eighth of the population of the upper 12 Tiers of Sarajevo. From here it was taken by train to some unassuming port in Croatia where it was loaded onto a small fishing boat. The boat - under the command of another of Sarajevo's madmen - then set sail to Algeria, stopping by at Jerusalem, Venice, Port-Au-Prince and Reykjavik on the way.

Upon reaching its destination half of the crew were dead but the captain declared to the port authorities that he had taken the most exact route ever devised to get there. Upon further questioning he was detained for a while for drunkenness before being released into the custody of Algerian mental health experts.

The Parcel - addressed ambiguously to "The Caliph who likes Birds" was then delivered promptly to the secretary of state. Inside the brown paper, the string and the box, pinned to the bird and enclosed in the blue envelope was a sheet of similar blue paper covered in a purple script all to familiar to Sarajevans.

Let me tell you a story Caliph, its a story about a little bird I once knew. I'm going to tell you he was called Srećko. He was a nice little bird, he liked to sing, he liked to fly. But one day he flew a bit to far and I ate him. In a pie. Mixed him in with some of the pickled fish that we get here. I wonder if you in your high castle of Algiers know how nice our pickled fish is. I would recommend it, though you probably think yourself above it. I know you like birds though, Algerian Birds, Sicilian Birds... Even Manx Birds or so I hear.
You're a bird just like Srećko, well... I say just like but you are a bit different. You chose to bite back against the net that was cast out for you, you chose to destroy the oven, burn the cooks and stamp on the crust. You didn't end up like Srećko, you didn't get eaten. But you're still a little bird, you still like to sing, you still like to fly. I love that in you - your happiness and joy, your care free flight and path of freedom.

We all love birds Caliph... You're a bird, Srećko was a bird. And there is another bird...

He's sitting now on a boat, he's floating across the seas, little does he know that the boat he sits on will soon be toppling over. Fish start thrashing when they feel threatened Caliph, and a little bird like Srećko can't hold onto the boat when the fish start thrashing.
I said there was another bird, well, there isn't anymore. In the time since you've read this little anecdote one of the fishes has started thrashing and that little bird couldn't hold on. "Goodbye little bird!" I say to him... He thought he was better that the pie, but he didn't know he was in the pie all along. We are all in the pie Caliph and the fish might start thrashing.

Will you share this pie with me?

-GG

In the Mid-Atlantic a Ship Captain looked up from his crossword, he mulled over the last of the pie he'd been eating. It had been tasty, a fitting final meal. He had cut down all the lifeboats, he had killed the radio signal, he had thrown about half the staff overboard. Yet still the dignitaries and nobles and clergymen knew nothing that was amiss. They partied and held balls and talked about politics or religion or some such matter that was too simple for the old Captain to think about - his mind was on higher things, higher purpose; he was a fish.
He got up from his maple desk and stepped onto the bridge. The blood of the dead still stained the beautiful wood of the floor, it was maple too. These Manx seemed to like maple. Gavrilovich would have liked to know that, he would have found some symbolism in it. Gavrilovich liked symbolism. That's why the captain was a fish and that man down below attending some party or political address - he was a bird; someone who had flown a bit too high.
The captain took to the wheel. And turned it slowly, eyeing the white mass he could clearly see on the horizon. It would take them about forty minutes to get there. Enough time to contemplate how he go there, remember his childhood on Tier 28, his hopes and dreams, his dreams especially.

35 minutes later he was still standing there, doing the only thing he had left - remembering. Then he smiled to himself, his reflection over, and pulled down the lever that pushed the engines up to their highest speed. Flinging the boat at full speeds forwards.
Forwards to the great cold mass of an Iceberg.
Forwards to his death.
Forwards to his dreams...

-The news caster of the official Manx Imperial News Service (MINS), Gwen Brown, was looking at the audience screen with sorrow-

Greeting citizens of… the Imperium of… Man.

I bit ill news. This evening the Emperor’s personal civilian vessel, the MIV (Manx Imperial Vessel) Thorfin crashed into a ice berg while in the Mid-Atlantic, transporting Gilmore Flanagon, our great emperor, to commence diplomatic visit in the Americas, crashed into a ice berg. The vessel sank into the waters. Scout parties found no survivors: it is suggested there was sabotage. Our Emperor, among the dead, is now… set to… the other life. May his soul be… blessed.

-the news caster bursts into tears-

With the… death… of our beloved leader, the Imperium is set to investigate… the causes of the great tragedy that has occurred today. In the meantime a calling of the lords, bishops, CEOs and family members of the Emperor has been called to… revise on his demise.

-the news caster rubbed her watering eyes more-

In light of the death of Gilmore Flanagon, aged 47, must we mourn his loss. Let we must also consider the dawn of… his successor. Magnus Flanagon, elder son of Gilmore, is set by linage to be the next Emperor of Mann. Calls after already been set for our 15 year old new ruler for the reagent that will aid the new Emperor Magnus till he reaches 16 next year. His… rule will be blessed and he will lead us to glory. By his... father’s… name… he will lead us to through these harsh times.

The Emperor Gilmore Flanagon is dead. Long live the Emperor Magnus! With his crowning to be set he will lead us! Let us as we mourn look up to our young new ruler! Let us curse the iceberg that killed his father and the possible assassins that may have leaded him to his grave! Let us stand united as one united Imperium of Man in tribute to Gilmore and in honour to Magnus. Glory to the Imperium of Man! Glory… and… blessing to it!

God bless the Isle of Man!
