Blame mosher for that. he made em into joining as Burgundy, said I was gonig in wade into Occitania secure my place there, as the French Empire.
The idea of being French was horriblefor me, but the i realise that if I screw things up, you'll just exterminate me, and really, who doesn't like seeing the French murdered on the battlefield?
Well, I just mean in the sense France was supposed to be a proxy war between pro-democrat and pro-fascist factions, and you joining there will change that setup, so I'd just void it.
Ailedhoo, and NinjaCow, I will send you your incomes shortly.
To make tracking of trade income and its variables more simple, there is a “trade effectiveness” now hidden between your trade revenue and total economy measure; this is why your economy and trade may not add up to it. Most countries experienced a massive hit due to the closure of Suez and Panama.
There is a “vault” column for those of you who qualified for the bonus last turn.
As with last turn, there are bonuses for getting orders in early (as it speeds up my ability to update), even general ones:
Leth Confederacy 12890
Combined Syndicates 7453

Arstotzka 13579

Tom Dreyer of the Leth has begun to see failing health, and so has retired. Afolayan now holds the sole seat on the ICJ and may determine policy unilaterally.
Secretary
Jonathan Mays of the Combined Syndicates of America
Hot off the heels of the disappointing Smirnov administration is the inauguration of Jon Mays of the North CSA. Known for his desire for peace and greater economic prosperity, many have high hopes for his leadership, and hope he will use the clout of the Syndicates to curry favor with such powerful nations as Bosnia.
News
Bosnia has become the most influential nation on Earth, with an effective 18 votes in the UN Assembly, a margin of nearly 20% in a body with only 98 seats that vote. Given the habit of abstention with many nations, it is no secret that Bosnia could very easily enact great change if it allied with any proposal.

War Zones
Spoiler:
Siberian Civil War. The Golden Horde continues to lead the pack, with no clear victor yet in the War; the two factions have ignored the small sideline Sino-Japanese faction, who mostly function as opportunistic merchants rather than a serious military foe. However, analysts are increasingly predicting a Horde victory, with the Horde continually scaling up its troop commitments to match 501st forces. However, the strain may soon get to the powers, as losses are starting to mount…
Norwegian Civil War. The Icelandics have utterly obliterated the forces fielded by the Syndicates and their allies. Norway is reunified, though nationalists continue to engage in guerilla warfare in the countryside; most of the country was returned to Icelandic rule regardless.
Midwestern Civil War. There has been no clear victor in the Civil War thus far, with both sides exchanging volleys. The Nationalist Party and their Icelandic cohorts currently are the leading power but not by a large margin.
Pennsylvania Civil War. Though both sides inflicted losses upon each other, America stands poised to take the region if not stopped in the wake of the new Atlantic War.
Occupation Zones. (-3000 Bosnians, -6000 Antiochans, -11,000 Burgunidans, -15,400 Syndicalists; 175,000 civilians lost between zones)
Economic News
Spoiler:
Arstotzka has been surpassed as the world’s largest economy, as the Antiochan growth rate is more than double theirs. Antioch became the first nation with a biannual GDP of 5 trillion, beating Arstotzka narrowly to the punch.
Analysts report population numbers to be increasing in importance; it seems consumer goods are becoming more popular than ever before, and a large population is sure to sustain a growing demand base for such, and thus, economic activity.

Hate Crimes. (-100 CSA influence in Puerto Rico)
The Plague! A massive plague has swept through the Syndicates; while initially limited to the countryside, the evacuation’s rapid movement of people, often into cramped quarters, has led to widespread virility. 280,000 people have died as a result of the illness. (-2% population)
A New Political Party. The Post-State Party has formed within the Great Plains, fielding a massive paramilitary force and having forged friendships with the Communists and Great Manes. Though they are often accused of being associated with the Goon Squad they deny such allegations.
South America
Spoiler:
INTERPOL Extravaganza. INTERPOL has engaged in intelligence operations throughout Brazil, Venezuela and Caracas. They have found nothing out of the ordinary, much to their rejoicing.
Counterproductive Propaganda. Some media outlets and investment firms that have recently changed their policies to be pro-Argentine have seen a considerable loss of business the last few quarters. (-50 Influence)
Viva Argentina! Guyanese people have become more inclined to believe in Argentina as a force that represents their interests, according to recent polls. (+100 Influence)
Europe
Spoiler:
Failed Assassination. An attempt has been made on the life of the Emperor of France. He has increased security measures accordingly; the attendant who tried to murder him has been beheaded publicly.
Failed Robbery. The Swiss Federal Bank houses vast amounts of capital from around the world; a large group of criminals attempted to break in and were repulsed with several dozen deaths. What scarce evidence could be collected suggests NGO involvement.

Recommendations:
-Espionage is a good tool to rein in NGOs. NGOs derive their income from their percentage of a host country’s total espionage value, similar to how countries earn client income. A good way to bury them is to invest in espionage in a country; even if you don’t root them out through counterintel you can still hurt them greatly in this manner.
-There’s a “profitability” measure on the Influence sheet. The higher the number, the more cost-effective it is to invest in that country. You will notice the most active investors are also the richest nations…
-Investing in countries with a high exchange rate can be lucrative: they invest their money in their infrastructure and thus can experience massive growth.
-Participate in the UN. Even abstention votes will still generate some influence points; proposing resolutions and succeeding in getting them passed net the most points.
-It is a good idea to sign Exclusive Investment Agreements with your clients to keep competition out.
-Invest espionage in countries you have influence in; this will help keep you safe from predatory attempts to purge your influence.
How interesting. Cyprus is the best nation in three categories. i didn't expect that. also, this is a *long* post.
anyway. onto important news:
Political changes
Spoiler:
with the Fall of the Dishonorable Empire of Rome, the Provincial Governor declared independence, with the support of most of the Roman Navy. they prevented Bosnia and Antioch from trying to conquer the Island.
the Roman Navy has since joined Cyprus, as civilians, and many of the ships were scrapped. this has a side effect of making a fair portion of the population trained for military service.
the Provincial Governor spent one and a half years forming the government, which is an Elective Monarchy. the Government had to basically take up all the functions which was once ran from Constantinople, hence the time it took.
the Provincial governor has since stepped down, not even releasing his name, preferring to be famous in anonymity.
there were three Candidates for election:
Michael Doukas
Platforms: Interventionism, militaristic and belligerent.
Andreas Tornikes
Platforms: economic prosperity, development of high technological standard, neutrality.
Aineias Laskaris
Platforms: isolationist, and Spiritual, but supports the idea of buying nuclear weapons to protect itself.
the Election results are in, and 2.6 million people voted:
60% (1,560,000) voted for Andreas Tornikes.
26% (676,000) voted for Michael Doukas.
14% (364,000) voted for Aineias Laskaris.
Andreas Torkies has won the Title of King, and will lead the nation until he dies.
Diplomatic requests:
1. Cyprus requests a normalization of relations with Bosnia and all her allies, and a Non aggression Pact from those nations.
2. Cyprus requests Antioch to protect its independence. in exchange, we will try our best to protect Antioch from its enemies.
3. Cyprus is sending humanitarian aid and fallout scrubbers to the Suez.
@He who controlleth the five-hundred and first legion.
Presumably its mutually economically detrimental for you and the golden horde to continue going at it over Siberia. Ergo, presuming I'm not inclined to resume personal rule in the week I resume my studies (final semester), it may be in your interest particularly in light of recent nuclear exchanges and harm to trade to inquire as to a modus vivendi with the Golden Horde, which presumably would not involve Legion domination of Siberia (which for various geostrategic reasons is not tolerable to the Horde, indeed that is something I put in my guidelines to tani which is presumably why he keeps frustrating you over there ). Concordantly, I would suggest you come to some arrangement where you accept the increasingly likely scenario of Horde domination in Siberia.
The first elections of a unified Germany have begun. The people will vote in both State and Federal elections.
Parties:
The German political system seems to be dominated by two main parties. The United Germany Party under Joachim Gauck, which advocates capitalist economy and the Socialist Party under Frederick Elbert, which wants a mixed economy.
- Joachim Gauck
- Frederick Elbert
State Elections:
Bavaria:
Party:| United Germany|Socialist|Total
Seats:| 159|141|300
Mr. Lukas Von Laublech of the United Germany Party has been elected Prime Minister of Bavaria.
Mr. Jonas De Gribber of the Socialist Party has been elected Prime Minister of Saxony.
Rhineland:
Party:| United Germany|Socialist|Independents|Total
Seats:| 133|105|62|300
Mrs. Sophie Von Blucher, independent but with the support of the United Germany Party and 37 other independents, has been elected Prime Minister of Rhineland.
Upper Germany:
Party:| United Germany|Socialist|Total
Seats:| 273|27|300
Mr. Arnold Van Adolph of the United Germany Party has been elected Prime Minister of Upper Germany.
Federal Elections:
Senate:
The Senate is elected by all Germans and is the Upper House of the Federal Parliament.
Party:| United Germany|Socialist|Total
Seats:|92|88|180
House of States:
The House of States is elected by the Germans in each state, and has 100 members from each State.
Party:| United Germany|Socialist|Total
Seats:|274|126|400
So the United Germany Party has won the elections and has the majority in the Parliament.
Elections for Chancellor:
The head of State and Government is elected in popular voted by all Germans.
Party:| Joachim Gauck|Frederick Elbert|Total
Seats:|67%|33%|100%
So Mr. Joachim Gauck has become the first elected Chancellor of Germany!
Goon Squad would like to declare to the world that it did not conduct nuclear operations. Who ever forged the acts is the true criminal and we will not be blown down by the efforts of our enemies who seek to paint us as tyrants in order to discredit us!
So umm leaving today on a cruise for a week. I in all probability won't have Internet access for the duration. I sent orders already, but will be unable to reply to diplomacy. So, I'm giving tani Diplomattic reign for the duration. In all matters concerning the UN, Robert Cant(Bosnia) will speak for me. He has the power to veto resolutions as he sees fit.
In terms of diplomacy, tani, just have ties with Iceland and New America cut and all messages sent by them ignored. Be super polite to everyone else, please and thanks.
Spartacus takes full responsibility for failed attack against Jakarta. We stole the nuclear weapons from the Jakartans and tried to use it against them for their support of international slavery and their use of excessive force against Timor and Sulawesi. We were aiming at military targets and trying to avoid civilian centre, but we know that this will unfortunately kill civilians. However, this is the only way to bring down the dangerous Jakartan Court. Sometimes to fight monsters you must become a monster yourself.
Bosnia congratulates Spartacus on their openness and quest of human rights however we can not condone the means you used. We advise you not to do this again and to pay reparations towards Jakarta for its losses of civilian life.
Vedran Smailović gratefully accepts the position of Acting Secretary until Jonathan Mays is feeling well enough to retake his position. We wish him a speedy recovery from his Caribbean malidy.
