Multipolarity IV Game Thread

You shall come to Hindustan just as you will go to Iron China to cast out the Mongols, whom incidentally have offered no terms allowing for that nations continued existence, and whom almost certainly will continue their war with the 501st in light of the latters decision to engage in war with them. Likewise it shall send its legions to Malaya to cast out the Crimson Court whom as we speak readies its forces in respect for our alliance, perhaps it shall also go into China-Japan too should the Japanese likewise raise up arms as part of their alliance obligations.

The 501st seems blithely ignorant of the fact that its forces are limited, and consigned to battle on multiple fronts against foes who have no such divided attentions. Such division inherently means that the strength of the legion is diluted which will make its assistance ultimately futile for its allies.

Furthermore when battle comes to its doorstep, the Legion would be foolish to the highest degree not to use its forces for its own defence. When the Crimson Court marches up the isthmus of Kra, and when Mongolia inevitably marches south into its own domain, it will be forced to sacrifice the periphery to protect its core lest it itself is destroyed. Considering this reality, which is undeniable however much the 501st protests, does Hindustan really wish to reject our terms, only to be abandoned by the 501st Legion when that nation finds its interests directed to its own sovereign lands? Does it really desire a perpetuation of a war that will result in millions of its citizens being consigned to oblivion through the acceptance of assistance that ultimately is an emphemeral and futile gesture? The 501st Legion will ultimately cast off the burden of Hindustan the day it is no longer convenient to its territorial defence lest it itself be destroyed.

Hindustan in this consideration must look at our proposal, understanding this immanent reality, and also understanding the consequences that rejecting our generosity means for its people, and also for the people of the 501st legion, for if you surrender to us none of what we said shall come to pass as war betwen the 501st and the great Empires of the Crimson Court and China-Japan would also be averted. On hindustans decision rests a great moral choice which will determing the fate of countless millions of lives of not those of its own people, but those of all these nations as well.

Wow, all of that before the Congo arrives to literally double the amount of forces on the allied side.

Last chance to surrender Cape Verde.

Half of Hindustan was taken in the assault. :p

ooc:It will suffice.

As to the Cape Verde-Ashanti war, all I can say is ouch. Cape Verde commited some geostrategic sins it seems which make its future existence rather tenuous. Oh and just a note on my previous message...

Hindustan pretty much has the ball at the moment, since if it agrees to surrender it immediately ends immediately before its even really begun a huge war (with all the moral horrors of suffering that would entail) between the Tripartite Alliance (Crimson Court, China-Japan, Golden Horde) and the 501st Legion. Ergo Hindustan is now responsible for the lives of countless millions, and on its decision their fates rest. I would say that the choice is either surrender, and nobly protect the lives of millions from the horrors of war, or obstinately resist and consign the same millions to death and suffering, perpetuated and dragged out over long years of bloodshed.

Funnily enough for the 501st Legions part, Hindustan accepting surrender is actually in its strategic interests, since it would then solely have to focus on the Iron Chinese theatre with Mongolia, rather than facing a desperate struggle for survival in its own territory.I suppose the Legion has its public image to consider though with regards to its previous statement :p.

I believe this largely rests on how the Crimson Court and Kingdom of Mainland China-Japan chooses to interpret the events of the past two years. Hindustan should wait for a statement from those powers before it acts. For instance, is a defensive pact really valid if you provoked the aggression in the first place? If I attacked Brunei, and the Court invaded me as recompense, I would not expect the Congo to honor a defensive pact with me as I knowingly and arguably deliberately provoked the invasion in question.

But no, Cape Verde committed only one Geo-strategic sin: Having no plan whatsoever. It's time for it to merit the wages of its sins. But as for you, you are one of the three (three!) powers which Afghanistan'd itself last turn, so it isn't your advice anyone should be taking.

ooc: The Crimson Court has indicated already (privately and on the thread) that it accepts the binding nature of the Defensive Alliance in this case, since as you read in the war-update Hindustani forces attacked innnocent Horde citizens first, and this initiated the conflict. Despite any denials it is indisputable that Horde citizens were killed, and this affront in the context of Hindustans previous hostility, and its association with the hostile policies of the 501st legion could not go unconfronted. The Golden Horde decided decisive defensive action was necessary, and you now see the results. (the 501st also declared war on us specifically anyway after the invasion, which also due to the pacts clear terms [mutual defence in event of being dowed or attacked by a third power] would invoke the treaty)

On the Court though, if you read the RP it appears the military forces of that nation are preparing for the prospect of war against the 501st Legion which is another sign of their considerations. The Crimson Courts position as it is at present, vis a vis Hindustan is therefore one would presume quite clear and short of a change of heart I don't expect Sone to ditch the Crimson Courts obligations.

On Japan, it has remained diplomatically silent in public, although I can assure you that as of the present time going through my private correspondence, it is my understanding that the defensive alliance applies with them also.

But no, Cape Verde committed only one Geo-strategic sin: Having no plan whatsoever. It's time for it to merit the wages of its sins.

Indeed, he did not know that the African Union would be formed this turn so we can't really blame him for that. We can blame him for not foreseeing how everyone would react to a completely unjustified war, with not even some RP about a border incident to justify it.

From this turn forward however, starting an offensive war in Africa is geostrategic sin.

The Crimson Courts position as it is at present, vis a vis Hindustan is thus quite clear one would think.

OOC: And yet it can be reasonably argued that you provoked this war deliberately. We shall see what honor the Court and Japan possess - whether they will allow the sinner to reap the wages of its own sin, or protect the sinner so it may continue its erroneous ways in the future.

Japan has remained diplomatically silent in public, although I can assure you that as of the present time going through my private correspondence, it is my understanding that the defensive alliance applies with them also.

We cannot begin to imagine what motivates China-Japan. It will be interesting to see how this turns out.

[Government of the CSA update]

The Combined Stndicates of America is a Confederation made up of 20 Syndicates. Syndicates are collectivized industrial unions within a given geographical area. These industrial unions are completely cooperative, managing the regional economies in decentralised economic planning based on the needs of the entire confederation, defined by the head of state and government of the Combined Syndicates, but how each syndicate goes about the actual economic planning is solely up to them. Syndicates can and often do communicate by way of labour exchanges so to be sure the populace of each syndicate meets every one of their needs as well as meeting the year's production queues. The Syndicates work in cooperation with the government of the Confederation to work out exactly what kind of production queue the Confederation can feasibly handle and generally goes for the plan with the highest guaruntee of a small surpluss in production.

The industrial unions are completely based on union democracy, where opposition to economic plans are welcome and the democracy is direct. These self-managed industries come together to form Syndicates. Delegates from the Industrial Unions make up Syndicate Councils to further discuss economic planning in the interests of the majority. These councils in tern send the delegates that work with the rest of the Confederate government to plan the production queues, but like said before how each Syndicate goes about meeting these queues is up to the council itself, with the interests of the majority in mind.

The Confederate government is made up in one part by the literal Combined Syndicates, but also by a head of state and government who proposes yearly plans to the council delegates. This man is elected by the delegates of the Syndicates, usually from one of their own but not neccessarily all the time. This is the same person who is the face of the CSA on the world stage and makes the ultimate decisions regarding foreign policy, but all domestic policies are handled by each individual syndicate.

People can only be eligible to become a delegate so long as they have certified evidence of their knowledge in economic theory and practice. Delegates who rise above those of industrial unions often have certified knowledge in engineering fields as well, ensuring that all decisions made have a solid, logical basis.

As a neutral observer, the most savvy thing for the 501st to do would be to publicly not defend Hindustan but fund it in private. Though since funding is in and of itself not a declaration of war (really it's just a negative embargo, helping the economy of one belligerent instead of harming it) one must wonder how the Crimson Court would view that. This is where geopolitics can get very, very muddy!

But yes I'm sorry for all you folks in the midst of NPC diplomacy, as Ailedhoo's become busy again from what I hear. Hopefully that will resolve itself soon. I don't want to NPCGM again. :p

Anywho update progress:

I've just calculated what troop stations I can find plus all espionage missions that were ordered. Now it's just the arduous task of roleplay bonuses and after that I believe we'll be done. :p

ooc: You're conveniently ignoring he has already publically pledged to defend Hindustan through the sending of stormtroopers, and so to do what you mentioned would necessarily require a humiliating backdown on the part of the 501st legion. You can just see the 501sts influence and prestige in the region flying like a stone!

At any rate, Hindustan still has the ball in its court so we will see what happens.

I am not "busy again," baring house keeping duty. It is just that all the chaos is... a consideration to get around, especially on the choices that have to be chosen. In fact my last message to Tani was not that I was busy but that I wish to consult him on the chaos to talk on the decisions best be made.

Apologies for these late time takings. Turn 3 will have better reaction on my part.

Spoiler :
Captain Krystolis stared at the man and woman standing in the middle of the Ready Room. "Do you have anything to say for yourselves?" He demanded quietly.

Shrev Taylor spoke up. "Yes. We'd like to get married in a hurry-" He was interrupted by Annabelle hitting him in the side. "I mean, I can promise you that this will not happen again."

"I suppose that will do." Krystolis sighed.

Flight Officer Seymour followed Colonel Rodriguez and Smokey onto the massive four-engine cargo jet. As he entered, he noticed a pair of yellow straight-wing single engine aircraft.

"Anything interesting?" Lati whispered from behind him, noting his stare.

"That's a Harrier." Seymour whispered back.

"So?" Lati asked.

"This is the first VTOL jet ever, the plane that started it all-" Seymour began.

"Quiet. Get to your seats." Smokey ordered.

Seymour shut up and marched to the jet's forward cargo bay. The entire forward bay was occupied by rows of hastily installed crash seats. "Take your seats." Colonel Maria Rodriguez commanded quietly.

"This is your pilot speaking. I hope you're all buckled in, because we're about to get rolling. Yee-haw!" An overly enthusiastic male voice shouted over the intercom.

"And this is your co-pilot." A cool female voice added. "I assure you that the auto-pilot does most of the flying. In case anyone was concerned."

With a minimum of chattering, the various flight crews and aircraft mechanics strapped themselves in. The jet's engines spooled up, and the aircraft rapidly gained velocity before clawing for altitude. After nearly five minutes of constant climbing, the jet leveled off at 15,000 meters. This is higher than any airship has ever flown. Seymour thought absently.

Colonel Maria Rodriguez unstrapped herself and proceeded to sit upon a crate in front of the assembled soldiers. "Everyone here volunteered for a special operation. Many of you gave up leave in order to be here." She spoke to the cargo bay at large. "The situation behind this operation is dire - Cape Verde has invaded Ashanti. We have pledged to support them, however our airships can only be there in significant numbers in a minimum of two months. I am Colonel Maria Rodriguez, and I will be your commanding officer for this deployment."

"Operation Midnight Heat is the emergency deployment of several squadrons of Taylori pilots and reserve planes via impounded aircraft in order to buy Ashanti time until our main force arrives." Colonel Rodriguez continued firmly. "Once there, we will engage the advancing Verdean forces in a series of delaying actions primarily by striking their supply lines."

"Those of you who are knowledgeable likely noted that in this very plane are a pair of Monsterguard's Si-27-J Super Harriers. Those are the reserve aircraft we will be using for the duration of Operation Midnight Heat." A groan echoed throughout the bay. "I know, I know. The plane's forty years old. However, this is what was available on such short notice and I have it on good authority that the J upgrade puts the Harrier roughly on par with the Raider." The Colonel explained.

"I expect the best from all of you. We are the first visible sign of support for Ashanti, so we must make a good impression." Rodriguez concluded. "Any questions?"

Silence reigned. "Then settle in. It's an eight hour flight."

Spoiler :
"Why is this important enough to take me away from Annabelle?" The Dictator, who was wearing a nightgown, asked Doumont with irritation.

"I do not believe your relationship with that witch will bring you any joy in the long term." Doumont answered seriously. "But the reason I tore you away from your bed is because the UN is responding to our bare-bones report on Arachne Titanis and I have news from Devil's Bouquet and Devil's Dowry."

"Why is this important enough to take me away from Annabelle?" Shrev repeated, an edge in his voice.

"I also have a private communique from the Kingdom of the Crimson Court." Doumont continued, ignoring the Dictator.

"Well that's great. Give it here." Shrev ordered.

"First, you will listen as I speak to you of things which are the crime of terrorism to know about when you're not supposed to." Doumont replied forcefully.

"Fine. What's the deal?" The Dictator asked resignedly.

"We added the Megaspider to the UN list of sapient species." Doumont began. "The Crimson Court has proposed eradication with napalm - when we pointed out that Arachne Titanis is fire retardant, the Golden Horde informed us that the point of the napalm wouldn't be to kill the spiders but to destroy their environment and prey."

"Ah. Did we tell them that most of the Tayloristani jungle is fire resistant? Or that Megaspider is known to eat human, jungle scorpion, treejumper, leth, and most varieties of animals alike?" Shrev questioned. "Also, did we tell them about the egg clutch we dumped in the middle of the Sahara just to see what happened? Specifically, what did happen?"

"No and no, to your first two questions." Doumont replied. "No to your third question. The A. Titanis hatched and spread out over a 160 sq. kilometer region as normal. When large prey didn't come, they dug burrows in the sand and artificially reduced their numbers via cannibalism to compensate for their lowered food supply. At our last observation, one of them had set up on the Trans-Saharan highway. It ate several package couriers and a bus full of tourists before an operative killed it with Anthrax Epsilon and destroyed the body with C4."

"So you're saying that even if we destroyed the jungles..." Shrev began.

"...Megaspider is here to stay." Doumont finished dejectedly. "Which is good, as my report of Devil's Bouquet and Devil's Dowry will show."

"Ah yes. The facilities critical to Tayloristan's modern world." The Dictator noted.

"Devil's Bouquet reports its Megaspider population is steady and production of the new high-grade flotation gas is well underway. Furthermore, it has developed a form of personal body armor reinforced with Megaspider webbing and worked out how to use the aforementioned webbing as the adhesive component in sticky bombs." Doumont reported brightly.

"Yes. Who could have ever thought that Megaspider fear pheromones could be so useful?" Shrev agreed.

"Indeed. They're certainly a step up from the old flotation gas, distilled from the Pitcher Tree - that stuff was flammable like you wouldn't believe." Doumont enthused.

"Doesn't it bother you a little that Megaspiders are technically sapient?" Shrev suddenly asked with concern.

"Not a bit. You know why?" Doumont asked.

"No. Why?" Shrev questioned.

"Because I've spoken to a few of them in the wild. We're their prey, Shrev. They wouldn't experiment on us because they'd just eat us - all of us, not just Tayloristani." Doumont finished with ice in his voice. "The only reason we can keep them captive at Devil's Bouquet and Devil's Dowry is because they're vulnerable to being 'reprogrammed' with sound waves."

"I know, but they're sapient." Shrev argued.

"But they're a natural predator." Doumont countered. "You can't be friends with a natural predator."

"Fine. Have it your way." The Dictator gave up.

"Good. Now, Devil's Dowry..." Doumont began.

Spoiler :
Seymour walked down the exit ramp behind a team of engineers extracted the Si-27-J fighters. So this is what it's like half a continent away. Ashanti looked nothing like Tayloristan. Whereas Tayloristan was principally jungle with a smattering of cities, Ashanti or this region thereof was principally wide open desert.

The airbase they had landed at seemed permanent enough. It had hangers, some ridiculously obsolete jets of its own, and now Tayloristani forces. That yellow Monsterguard paintjob doesn't look so bad imposed over sand.

An Ashanti Major came forward to meet them. He looked directly at Seymour and spoke "Colonel Rodriguez, it is an honor to welcome Tayloristan's forces and their entourage." His eyes wandered over the women. "I am Major Hazim. Whatever your forces require, I can supply it."

Seymour looked back. "Flight Officer Phillip Seymour, a pleasure to meet you." He shook Hazim's hand. "Colonel Rodriguez is over there." He indicated Colonel Rodriguez, who had spotted Major Hazim and was approaching.

Hazim, visibly flustered, replied "A woman Colonel?"

Rodriguez arrived. "Yes. Colonel Maria Rodriguez." She extended her hand.

Hazim didn't take it. "Women can't fly. Your country should have sent warriors." He stated matter-of-factly.

"Major, how long have you had this job?" Colonel Rodriguez asked cheerfully.

"I've been with the air force for ten years." Hazim replied with obvious pride. "I was promoted last week."

Colonel Rodriguez looked Hazim directly in the eye. "I've flown jets since I was fifteen. I've been in the Tayloristani Air Force for twenty-five years. I've served in two wars. I have fourteen kills. I am personally responsible for the destruction of Formidda's Carrier." That got a chorus of ooh's from the assembled Taylori pilots. "I was hand-picked for this operation by The Dictator. Now you can deal with me as a Colonel or you can't - but you will respect my pilots as fliers and warriors." She finished softly.

"And just who are your pilots?" Hazim asked reluctantly.

"At this base, I only have five of them." Colonel Rodriguez answered evenly. "You've met Flight Officer Seymour. This is Captain Brenda Hill, Flight Officer Ingrid West, Flight Officer Lana Tang, and Flight Officer Helen Kalkis." She indicated Smokey, Ice, Lati and Bell in turn.

"Ingrid?" Lati whispered to Ice.

"Tang." Ice whispered back.

"Touche." Lati responded.

Major Hazim gulped. "We didn't clear a barracks for your girls. We thought you'd send men." He stated nervously.

"Oh, that won't be a problem." Bell answered brightly. "I'm sure we'll all have a great time."

Major Hazim laughed heartily.

Colonel Rodriguez interjected. "What my idiot means is that you don't have to throw your pilots out of a barracks. Ours would be happy to bunk with our mechanics and engineers. Half of them are female anyway."

"Your Flight Officer Kalkis acts as I would expect my pilots to if I offered them the chance to sleep in the same barracks as your pilots." Major Hazim winked at Bell.

"Quite." Colonel Rodriguez stated.

My most sincere apologies for the triple post - I appear to have gotten quite long-winded in my current age.

ooc: Time to bring out the Mongolian Death Worms to combat this Megaspider menace :p, and longwinded though you may be, since your posts are spoilered and not too long it may be an idea to in the future simply have the spoilers all in the one post, rather than in separate ones.

OOC: You misunderstand. It was originally one post, but it was too long (Seven pages in Word). And if you have an idea, I'd be glad to hear it.

ooc: Two in one might of worked, you never know. As to the glories of the Mongolian Death Worm, I've been thinking about writing something on those most glorious of beasts on the assumption that mutant anomalies are not confined solely to the jungle-wastes of africa, but I haven't had the time (assignments are creeping up on me :( ).

Either way, since they produce an acid which can melt practically anything, powerful electrical discharges, and naturally are exceedingly robust, Im sure something could be done with the mongol crytpo-sandworm amphisbaenid mutant beasts! (although alas, they are suitable only for arid and semi-arid conditions, or perhaps they produce said conditions... still A. Titanis' jungle abode would likely be problematic as an area of introduction)

OOC: Probably. But I would have had to chop up conversations or move one of the shorter opening conversations to the second post with a clarification note, which would have negatively impacted clarity. I know what you mean about assignments - this is likely to be my last RP until Sunday or so.

Clearly, mutant anomalies are not confined to the jungle-wastes of Africa (See: Leth, Bienen, etc). Your monster is probably stronger in its environment, since I'd bet that acid could clear A. Titanis webs and the spider is vulnerable to being knocked unconscious by electrical discharges. Yeah, it would be - I'm not done describing the jungle. It doesn't react well to new arrivals, human or otherwise.

Celticfury and Ravus Sol, I will send you your incomes shortly.

Ailedhoo, I will need leaders, governments, military size, and spending percentages for Poland.

Ailedhoo, Sweden has to decide what to do with the 500 influence Iceland-Norway had in the country. Freeze it, repossess it, distribute it to someone else, etc.

Ogane and Robert Can't, your nations will be dismantled at turn's end if you don't get in some sort of orders or participation.

Recommendations:

-Invest in Poland.
-Take advantage of the large wars going on to snatch some clients away from the belligerents.
-If at war, don't hesitate to go all out in the struggle for civilization - taxes, reserves, and of great importance, espionage. Espionage is vital for cutting into enemy defense bonuses.
-Education now helps with resource discoveries if at peace and weapon discoveries if at war. Don't neglect your universities!
-Even minor participation usually carries some reward. Don't hesitate to cast votes in the Union of Nations.
