Multipolarity IV Game Thread

While I did resign but that does not mean he should disrespect the work. Tani has to negotiate with me since they are my creations and ones creations are not fully separated.

Funny fact: it was not a direct democracy. There are two direct democracies in MP4: Switzerland and Commune Caracas.

Funnier fact: Kirov is a representative democracy.

If Tani negotiates with you, its because he's being nice, not because he has to because he really doesn't.

I'll take your word on the government style.

Still: they were in the end of the day my creations and while I did resign I did not say "o and you can disrespect everything I done." Granted I did not set a signature of protection for my work but still in the name of honour and respect Tani should respect my nations. May nations were set with the leaders in order to drive how the societies would be: George Orwell for instance played Kirov.

And he may, or he may decide the dynamics of the situation are different now.

I am not a optimist but I am also not cynical either: both are two extremes and extremes can be ill. Humans are born neutral; they can be stupid, they can be mean, they can be smart, they can be kind. To blank them all as one is... to not take full account.

Humans are born neutral, yes - but it is beyond naivety to assume that a society will stay in its place on the moral/ideological spectrum over time. It is beyond naivety to assume that a person you know to be a good and just person won't just change their mind. It is beyond naivety to assume humans are not capable of truly horrific things - and truly great ones. Humans are born neutral, but humans change. The United States has changed in the past ten years, and the past hundred, and the past two hundred. Kirov may have changed in the past ten years - and in any democracy, deceiving the citizenry with honeyed words is the real purpose of the politician.

Or Kirov might be in a horrific phase right now - the sort of thing they'll regret in another ten years.

Whoops - didn't see this:

Let us drop this subject, please. It is derailing the thread. :)

Shutting up.

I like how you called me "naïve."

I said people were born neutral in response to your "humans are cruel monsters! Blah!"

I am aware humans change: what got the impression they do not?

However change does not go from hot to cold in a instance in humans: revolution requires processes and the usual note of change, evolution, takes its time. Britain changed but did so slowly over years, evolving. It takes time for a ship to turn around and Kirov should have a natural explanation of the policy (like say there was great instability and people were looking for scapegoats). Instead we are given a 90 degree turn without reasoning.

Weimar Germany did not become Nazi Germany in the space of a year. It took time, processes, considerations. The Russian Revolutions had a lot boiling in how they generated but it all did not origin on just the moments of the Revolutions. World War One was triggered by the assassination of the Archduke but the reasons for the war were many, with lots of underlying causes. There is a cause of how societies change like how peace turns to war. One has to consider reason.

As for humans: they change but change does not come all at once.

Without reason one loses consideration and without that we just have a plain mechanic calling itself a nation that need not place itself with a name.

Let us drop this subject, please. It is derailing the thread. :)

If we end up talking on the subject again then let it be in chat than here.

Remember: there is other powers than Kirov than could set away people...

*cough*

Guys. Please?

I'd really rather this thread not go downhill?

Can we get back to the actual game? :)

OOC: Well that time on chat was certainly interesting  :OOC

Argentina is proud to announce the Creation of the South American Defensive Deployment and Engagement Network (SADDEN). This agreement will combine the various defensive systems of the South American nations, presenting a unified military response to any hostile landings on the continent. It will also regulate the arrival of peaceful troops from overseas powers, to ensure the continued safety of the continent from ruinous war breaking out in the interior.

We are certain this agreement will go a long way to maintaining peace and prosperity within our already great continent.

All those that flock to New America to take up arms in our military this turn shall be rewarded with normal pay and citizenship (citizenship once war is over).

You mean I can move to a soon-to-be war torn area and fight in a war that isn't my battle and then live in the war torn area after granted I even survive?

Sign me up!

I am afraid you are under a misunderstanding. New America is not at war yet, New America is not a battleground and will never be war torn, and New America unlike communists value individual rights and will protect our citizens no matter the cost. Consider that a warning.

Are we mistaken in figuring that New America would aid their ally in their declaration of war against the Combined Syndicates or?

Also, realistically speaking, you shouldn't have actually received that above thing considering you cut all ties.

Spoiler Can you say Long RP? :
The helicopter buzzed restlesly back and forth across the vast forest. The search for the Megaspider, codenamed Harbringer, had been continuing without success for several weeks. They hadn't had even a single reported sighting, and in all the vast search area had no particular idea where to search. The helicopters had plenty of method in their madness, but very little of it was proving effective as they traversed zones far to large for them to be properly covered.

McShepard had heard a request had been put in for more troops, and hoped desperately that some would come. The response teams the sweep was using currently were too far apart to arrive in any reasonable span of time, and the search units themselves weren't in a much better shape. For all the commands to use whatever was neccesary, things had not procceded as hoped.

"Captain!" The voice of the pilot echoed urgently through McShepards headset "We've got a Code Red coming from Grid F-4, they say the targets attacking them. Confirmed sighting and multiple casualties already."
"How far away is that and what other units are in range?" The captain best known to her troops as 'Reaper' tensed up instinctively at the possibilty of combat.
"We're in Grid F-3 and can be there in about five minutes, next sweep unit is..." there was a worried pause "Next sweep unit is twenty minutes out and the closest Response team is almost an hour away."

McShepard fought the urge to swear at how inefficiant their system was. "Alright everyone, looks like we're the cavalry. Set course for the target, full speed, we need to be there ten minutes ago." Femshep McShepard did not like what she had just had to say. Everything command had said about facing off a megaspider had centered around taking the time to isolate it and wait until overwhelming force was available. Going in with a single light helicopter and three infantrymen, none of whom were particularly heavily armed, was far from her idea of overwhelming force.

Still, there was backup coming, and there was a force already on the ground in the target area. McShepards Chopper could take up a supporting role, tracking the target and keeping it engaged. That was probably the best plan, they weren't suited to trying to take it out alone, just to keep it busy until a proper team showed up. They could do that, surely?

Five minutes crawled slowly past before a large compound finally appeared ahead of them. The hurried, panicked movements of the figures on the ground made clear they were at the right place, and looking down Femshep could see the flashes of gunfire below. What she didn't see was the target. Where was it? Obviously not engaged in a frontal assault, but it had to be somewhere around here.

The helicopter buzzed slowly around the camp, careful to stay afar bove the danger zone of the treetops. Megaspiders were well known to be capable of jumping high enough to engage helicopters, and nobody wanted to risk it. As they watched the random firing below it became ever more apparent that there was no target; the bullets were so wildly aimed that some whizzed past the helicopter itself.

Some were less obliging. There was a series of clinks against the helicopters lightly armoured underside as a random spray of bullets burst out from the madness below. "We've been hit." The pilot reported dryly "And it didn't sound like a megaspider to me. Somebody get the guys down below to knock it off, this isn't exactly an assualt ship."
"Facilty Forty Two this is Captain McShepard, Repbulican Guard, we'd appreciate it if you told your troops to watch where they shoot, we've already taken freindly fire. In fact, not shooting unless you are actually aiming at a target is generally advisable in this situation."

"...I really should be more careful with what I say." The pilots voice was suddenly quite ominous "We're losing altitude. Must have been hit somewhere important, I'll try and take her over the compound, just in case."
"What?" Femshep suddenly felt a whole lot worse about their situation, which had not been good for a long time. "How are we...of all the days!"
"All the days and all the enemies, I think I just saw movement below, and we'll hit the danger zone any second now."

"You must be.." What exactly the pilot must be may never be known, as the helicopter chose that particular moment to jerk violently to one side. Or perhaps more accurately, the megaspider choose that particular moment to jump on it.
"MEGASPIDER!" The scream of the pilot hammered into McShepards head, accompanied moments later by a horrific metallic screech. A moment of gut-wrenching terror washed over her, followed immidiately by the realisation she had to move, now. She slammed her hand into the seatbelt, grabbing her rifle as the helicopter lurched again, and pulled herself to her feet. Twisting painfully, she squeezed towards the cockpit, and the rapidly growing hole being clawed into it.

There wasnt much time for fancy aiming, certainly none for trying to make out which part of the creature was the head. McShepard simply pointed her rifle at the gap and let rip. It was suprisingly effective. Sort of. The megaspider reared back, ripping off a large part of the cockpit with it. Not about to eat the pilot anymore, but now there were a lot bigger problems. Like the aircraft no longer being capable of flight. Or the huge hole in the front, towards which McShepard found herself tumbling. A moment later, after rolling through a confusingly sulphuric-smelling section of wreckage, those problems ceased being of much concern either, and the main worry was the fact that she was falling unchecked through empty air.

Lady luck chose that particular moment to intervene. In the form of a large tree, into which McShepard procceded to slam very hard. Fortunately for her, the Helicopters rapidly lowering altitude had taken them low enough that this was not a collision capable of breaking anything important, although the rapid descent halfway through the tree before she could catch herself was certainly not pleasant.

Femshep examined her situation: her companions had almost certainly died in the helicopter crash, the megaspider quite probably hadn't, so was capable of coming back to get her. She was wounded, bruised all over, several nasty cuts to the arms and probably the face too. She was halfway up a tree, but Megaspiders could climb those without problem, so no real security there. She'd lost her rifle in the fall, but still had her pistol and a couple of grenades which might come in handy. Running was only an option if something distracted it, there was no way she could outdistance it. It had been engaged for a while now, but as far as she could tell was uninjured, so the facility guards were probably completely useless at best. In fact, they had already proven to be more dangerous to freind than to foe. Overall analysis: she was completely screwed.

Well, no point sitting around brooding about it. Getting to the ground would give more options, even if just the options to climb a new tree. And so she descended as rapidly as she dared, hoping against hope that the Megaspider hadn't spotted where she fell. This seemed to work, as Femshep neither saw nor heard the massive monster, even after she was on the ground desperately searching for the camp, or at least a weapon.

What did she know about megaspiders? McShepards breifing seemed to have fled her mind. The head was weaker, or was it just eyes? Could she go for a headshot? Unlikely given her condition and how fast the damn thing could move. Would a grenade hurt it? They'd said something about explosives before she'd deployed, so maybe.

Movement ahead. Something big. A last desperate scan for weapons revealed nothing. Femsehp was left with no option but to go with what she had. She fired off a few quick snapshots, hoping to scare it. Unlikely given how ineffective the fire it had faced so far had been. Missed anyway, although she thought it might have flinched sideways.

Alright, plan two. As the thing skittered towards her, McShepard grabbed for a grenade, and with a defiant yell, hurled it into the creature's path. This seemed to matter something to it, as it reared up, clawing back against its momentum to avoid running onto the blast. BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! Almost without thinking, Femshep emptied the pistol at the thing, hoping desperately that some sort of damage might be done. She couldn't tell if she hit it or not.

Click. Click. She dropped the gun, snatching forth another grenade to hurl at the creature before it could resume its forward progress. She had one grenade left. The vast spider had fled the second explosive, and the two of them faced each other across a short distance. One Grenade. She held it forward in front of her, almost as if it could shield her somehow from the giant monster. No point throwing this one until it got to close to dodge. To close for her to dodge.

Amazingly, the megaspider did not advance. Slowly, carefully, presmably keeping a close eye on her, it began to back off. Clearly the grenades were worrying it. Femshep took a step forward, then stopped. Where had she dropped her pistol? As the megaspider continued its retreat, she leant down to snatch her gun from the ground, slamming it into the holster before raising her grenade back up to face the monster.

It had dissappeared. She spun, scanning the trees around her. Nothing. What about above? Nothing. Either it had hidden, or it had just...left. Had she won? Surely not. The megaspider was far to powerful to be flee from her, it must be waiting for an oppurtunity. She could not let her guard down now.

Nothing happened. The forest remained still, although far from silent as gunfire continued to echo from the camp. The megaspider had gone. Had she even scratched it? Maybe one of her pistol shots had struck something. It hadn't looked injured, but then you could never really tell with something so alien.

"This is Captain McShepard. I've lost contact with Harbringer. Repeat, Harbringer has disengaged."

There has been no official declaration of war, nor any official call to arms that New America is aware of.

OOC: Posts in the thread are usually considered public and not limited to diplomatic channels such as embassies....as I understand it.

OOC: listen kid; I took time to produce that NPC list and that time is something one does not disrespect. I took time to produce my duties as a NPCGM: the reason I left was stress but I enjoyed enhancing the world by acting out the nations. Kirov is not a society of "zero minority" protection. Socialism does not mean "screw minorities." This... characture you made, this generalisation... is not what I sacrifice hours for.

There has been petitions and your actions only repeat the notion that "GMs should have absolute authority" is a mistaken notion.

You either play out nations as nations as I did or make your mechanics suitable only for 13 year olds. What ever the case your actions here are not justified.
Moderator Action: Well, it appears that we have another ridiculous dust up. I am not an expert on IOT relations and games, but in the time that I have been involved here, there is one trend: Ailedhoo, you seem to be a common factor in many petty, picky disputes that derail games.

Now, it appears that you once created some nations and gave them over to the community, but when they get used you still want to control them. I am sorry, but you gave that control up. I suggest that if you want your nations to behave how you want, that you start a new game with those nations and run it how you want. The GM for MPIV can run his NPCs anyway he wants.

On a broader note, Ailedhood, since you seem to be at the forefront of more than one recent problem, here is my mandate to you: stop creating problems in other peoples games! Play the game and stop complaining or derailing it with stupid stuff. If you cannot do that, then I will invoke my powers to go beyond red mod text. If you are not mature enough to play and enjoy these games with others, maybe you should find another place on the internet more suited to your temperament. This discussion is over, get back to the game please.

I think the square means its owned by Iceland. Or Britain. Or something.

Off Scotland. Do you see a square off Scotland? No? Neither do I.

I swear that text wasn't there before but what's with the attitude?

I also neglected to realize that CivG was actually Britain. Heh. In any case those islands won't really do anything in terms of the game, anyways.

Tani, You missed my claims from the last turn AGAIN!!!!

(I'm referring to the group of lands that are off of Scotland that were "forgotten" in the update)

Remedied, 1 Infra given.

"Sir, this is a bad idea." Sergeant Barnes said to Captain Arya as they rode along in their helicopter.

"This group of Megaspiders has now routed the last three patrols to encounter it. And you believe it is a bad idea to begin bringing firepower to the battle?" Captain Arya voiced incredulously.

"Sir its a bad idea to have you out here." Barnes said with an edge to his voice.

"Why? Because Im an officer? Because it takes command away from you?" Arya asked sharply.

"Because-"

"Target spotted 1200 yards out!" The co-pilot shouted.

"Release the tanks!" Yelled the captain.

There were three helicopters, armed to the teeth as most assault choppers were in the New American Army. They each also chugged along with a tank harnessed below each helicopter, slowing them down to an extreme point. There were also a pair of transport helicopters following behind, ready to put down forty elite soldiers to fight alongside the tanks, with missile launchers and grenades heavily dispersed among them, and the multi purpose Washington Rifles used by those without missiles.

The choppers lowered slightly, just enough to drop the tank and allow it to land smoothly, and then released the harness. The pair of transports began to descend nearby.

Sergeant Barnes looked warily at the hills they were flying through. Full of forest and brush, they could hide just about anything, and restricted their movements, yet these hills and small mountains at the extreme northwest of New America territory were favorite spots of the ever growing Megaspider population. Where they were flying right now was a narrow valley not even 2000 yards across, with the ground heavy with trees in most areas and the ground uneven under them. Where they were dropping the tanks was a small clearing.

As the tanks released, both of them could feel the responsiveness of the chopper increase immediately.

"These helicopters are beautiful Sergeant! I need to get off the base more often!" Arya shouted over the wind.

Then the entire Helicopter was hit, and something black, big, with eight legs was covering the side of it as it began its sudden horizontal descent from the sky. As Arya looked on, the Megaspider snapped the rotors and began to tear the m aching apart. He heard shouting, and looked over to see barnes flying out of the craft. He raised his gun, but before he could so much as aim, he felt a lethal feeling impact, and the world went dark.
