Mutant NES

Concept: I don't like X-men I've only seen the movies which sucked and never read any of the comics, but I thought that the social situation of mutants was extremely interesting, and intriguing, the whole mutant registration laws and oppression and the resistance and hunting them and so forth, it was really rather intriguing. So I was thinking that people could play as mutants with no relation to the X-men because the X-men suck except Wolverine (no you cannot be wolverine. Map would be North America for the most part, focused on the US.

Particularly the following stuff is what I would like to explore, you may use this as the basis for your characters if you wish.

Spoiler :
The conflict between mutants and normal humans is often compared to conflicts experienced by minority groups in America such as Jews, African Americans, Communists, LGBT characters, etc. Also on an individual level, a number of X-Men serve a metaphorical function as their powers illustrate points about the nature of the outsider.

"The X-Men are hated, feared and despised collectively by humanity for no other reason than that they are mutants. So what we have here, intended or not, is a book that is about racism, bigotry and prejudice."
Uncanny X-Men writer Chris Claremont, 1981

* Anti-Semitism: Explicitly referenced in recent decades is the comparison between anti-mutant sentiment and anti-Semitism. Magneto, a Holocaust survivor, sees the situation of mutants as similar to those of Jews in Nazi Germany. At one point he even utters the words "never again" in a 1992 episode of the X-Men animated series. The mutant slave labor camps on the island of Genosha, in which numbers were burned into mutant's foreheads, show much in common with Nazi concentration camps, as do the internment camps of the classic "Days of Future Past" storyline. Another notable reference is in the third X-Men film, when asked by Callisto: "If you're so proud of being a mutant, then where's your mark?" Magneto shows his concentration camp tattoo, while mentioning that he will never let another needle touch his skin.

* Diversity: Characters within the X-Men mythos hail from a wide variety of nationalities. These characters also reflect religious, ethnic or sexual minorities. Examples of Jewish characters include Shadowcat, Sabra and Magneto, whilst Dust is a devout Muslim, Nightcrawler a devout Catholic, and Thunderbird is a follower of the Hindu faith. Storm (Ororo Munroe) represents two aspects of the African diaspora as her father was African American and her mother was Kenyan. Karma was portrayed as a devout Catholic from Vietnam, who regularly attended Mass and confession when she was introduced as a founding member of the New Mutants. This team also included Wolfsbane (a devout Scots Presbyterian), Danielle Moonstar (a Cheyenne Native American) and Cannonball, and was later joined by Magma (a devout Greco-Roman classical religionist). Different nationalities included Wolverine as a Canadian, Colossus from Russia, Banshee from Ireland, Gambit who is a Cajun, Psylocke from the U.K., Armor from Japan, Nightcrawler from Germany, etc.

* LGBT Rights: Another metaphor that has been applied to the X-Men is that of LGBT rights. Comparisons have been made between the mutants' situation, including concealment of their powers and the age they realize these powers, and homosexuality.[15] Several scenes in the X-Men films, two of which were directed by openly gay director Bryan Singer, illustrate this theme. The first film featured a scene in which Senator Robert Kelly questioned whether mutants should be allowed to teach children in school, mirroring such debates as that over Section 28, in which Sir Ian McKellen (who played Magneto in the film, and who is also openly gay) was involved. Bobby Drake "comes out" as a mutant to his parents in X2. In response, Bobby's mother condescendingly asks him, "Have you tried not being a mutant?" referencing the belief that homosexuality is not inherent but rather a lifestyle choice. Also in X2, Nightcrawler has a conversation with Mystique in which he asks her why she doesn't use her shapeshifting ability to blend in among non-mutant humans all the time (an option Nightcrawler evidently wishes he had). Mystique replies simply, "Because we shouldn't have to." In the comics series, gay and bisexual characters include Anole, Destiny, Karma, Mystique, Northstar, Graymalkin, Rictor, Shatterstar and the Ultimate version of Colossus. Transgender issues have also been explored in mutants' ability to "pass" as non-mutants—in the origin of Angel, he binds his wings.[16] Shapechangers like Mystique can change gender at will. The comic books delved into the AIDS epidemic during the early 1990s with a long-running plot line about the Legacy Virus,[17] a seemingly incurable disease similarly thought at first to attack only mutants. Ironically, while the X-Men had the Legacy Virus, they are incapable of getting AIDS due to their genetic mutation being able to combat the disease. A similar storyline appeared in the X-Men animated series that aired in the 1990s.

* Racism: Professor X has come to be compared to civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr. and Magneto to the more militant Malcolm X. The X-Men’s purpose is sometimes referred to as achieving "Xavier’s dream," perhaps a reference to King’s historic "I Have a Dream" speech. Magneto, in the first film, quotes Malcolm X with the line "By any means necessary." X-Men comic books have often portrayed mutants as victims of mob violence, evoking images of the lynching of African Americans in the age before the American civil rights movement. Sentinels and anti-mutant hate groups such as Friends of Humanity, Humanity's Last Stand, the Church of Humanity and Stryker's Purifiers are thought to often represent oppressive forces like the KKK giving a form to denial of civil rights and amendments. In the 1980s, the comic featured a plot involving the fictional island nation of Genosha, where mutants were segregated and enslaved by an apartheid state. This is widely interpreted as having been a reference to the situation in South Africa at the time.

* Red Scare: Occasionally, undercurrents of the "Red Scare" are present. Senator Robert Kelly's proposal of a Mutant Registration Act is similar to the efforts of United States Congress to effectively ban Communism in the United States. In the 2000 X-Men film Kelly exclaims, 'We must know who these mutants are and what they can do,' even brandishing a "list" of known mutants (a reference to Senator Joseph McCarthy's list of Communist Party USA members who were working in the government).[18]

* Subculture: In some cases, the mutants of the X-Men universe sought to create a subculture of the typical mutant society portrayed. The X-Men comics first introduced a band of mutants called the Morlocks. This group, though mutants like those attending Xavier's school, sought to hide away from society within the tunnels of New York. These Morlock tunnels served as the backdrop for several X-Men stories, most notably The Mutant Massacre crossover. This band of mutants illustrates another dimension to the comic, that of a group that further needs to isolate itself because society won't accept it. In Grant Morrison’s stories of the early 2000s, mutants are portrayed as a distinct subculture with “mutant bands” and a popular mutant fashion designer who created outfits tailored to mutant physiology. The series District X takes place in an area of New York City called "Mutant Town." These instances can also serve as analogies for the way that minority groups establish specific subcultures and neighborhoods of their own that distinguish them from the broader general culture. Director Bryan Singer has remarked that the X-Men franchise has served as a metaphor for acceptance of all people for their special and unique gifts. The mutant condition that is often kept secret from the world can be analogous to feelings of difference and fear usually developed in everyone during adolescence.

* Religion: Religion is an integral part of several X-Men storylines. It is presented as both a positive and negative force, sometimes in the same story. The comics explore religious fundamentalism through the person of William Stryker and his Purifiers, an anti-mutant group that emerged in the 1982 graphic novel God Loves, Man Kills. The Purifiers believe that mutants are not human beings but children of the devil, and have attempted to exterminate them several times, most recently in the "Childhood's End" storyline. By contrast, religion is also central to the lives of several X-Men, such as Nightcrawler, a devout Catholic, and Dust, a devout Sunni Muslim who observes Islamic Hijab. This recalls the religious roots of social activists like Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King, as well as their opponents such as the Ku Klux Klan or Nathuram Godse (the Hindu radical who assassinated Gandhi).

Orders: Orders are done through a combination of stories to develop your character and deal with major events, along with a list of actions that can be reasonably preformed in 2 weeks.

Updates: Updates are 2 weeks long each. Updates are a combination of: your stories + a list of actions you can reasonably achieve in 2 weeks + PC and NPC interaction and actions + events=update. It will deal with how well your actions succeed, your interactions with NPCs and each other and so forth. I would also throw in events that may or may not affect you. It would be pretty opened ended you could start a rebel group, go on a rampage with your powers, or fight people that go on rampages, start a mutant mafia, Whatever.

NPC's: The federal government, other mutants and mutant groups, anti-mutant groups, the general public

Background:
It is January 1st 2010. President Obama is in office while the Republicans have taken power in the House though the Democrats cling on in the Senate. No one really cares about gays because mutants are the greatest internal issue the United States faces. The mutants first began to really appear in the US around the 1970's when the pace of mutation for whatever reason began to pick up. Supposedly there have been mutants for hundreds or thousands of years however. Jesus might have been one. The mutation is genetic, and passed on by the father most likely. There is no cure. Mutants especially mutants with visible physical mutations face discrimination, lynchings, and attacks. The mutant rights movement has made little headway (nowhere near as much progress as gays) there is a Bureau of Mutant Affairs and some Democrats and Republicans supposedly support an expansion of mutant rights namely hate crimes laws and equal pay legislation but it's been stalled so far. As violence between mutants and humans increase there are mounting demands for things like Mutant Registration laws and other discriminatory legislation. Anti-Mutant hate groups have formed, some religiously inspired, others not vowing to exterminate mutants as abominations of god. Mutants have banded together to form their own groups and so forth. So far the situation is not yet bad enough for a race war, but there are fears it might get there if things continue to deteriorate.

So this is more or less the social situation. The world is pretty much ours, except with mutants and their assorted issues.

The KGB, using strange procedures and surgeries, gave Bronislav the ability to see heat signatures at will, but this severely damaged his eyes, which have never fully healed. When he was 15, he was pressed into service by the KGB as an agent and trained in the arts of sabotage and assassination. It is believed he killed Philippine Senator Benigno Aquino, Jr. After the fall of the Soviet Union, Bronislav tried to flee, but was captured and forced to serve as an agent for the FSB and GRU. In 2001, he managed to "retire" from duty for the Russian state and fled to the United States. Hugo was born on a coaca plantation in Peru where he worked against his will until his escape at !7. He then began what he perceived as a pilgrimage to the very belly of the beast, the final destination for all of the cocaine that he had slaved to produce, New York City. Along his foot journey to that haven of imperial corruption he picked up stories of Guevara, of Bolivar, of the Tupamaros and the FARC and now he longs to force the powers that rule America, and through it the world, in such a corrupt and unjust manner to a conflict he views in very Catholic terms, as a righteous crusade.

Name: Mark Langevin/Lord Iggy
Age: 15
Occupation: None
Location: Okotoks, Alberta
Physical Description: Small for his age, with a messy mat of brown hair and hazel eyes.
Mutant Powers/Abilities: The ability to alter the density, but not the size, of his body.
Other Skills: Highly Independent, Thievery, 'Street Smarts'
Possessions: Stolen car
Injuries: None
Affiliation: None
Followers: 0
Background:
Spoiler :
Mark was born in Lethbridge, Alberta in 1995. Raised in a troubled household with an alcoholic father and emotionally distant mother, Mark was nonetheless a gregarious child. However, as his home situation gradually deteriorated, with his father growing increasingly abusive over time and his mother becoming more of a non-factor in his life, he withdrew within himself as a defensive measure. This sign of vulnerability drew him to the constant attention of bullies, who would make his educational life a living hell well through elementary to middle school.

Ultimately finding himself bouncing between the homes of his now-divorced parents, Mark began to engage in acts of minor theft and vandalism, in what he might have later characterized as a desperate plea for attention, or as an attempt to impress his hostile or indifferent peers. This continued on into his first year of high school, at which point he had finally been pushed too far. Snapping against one of his tormentors, Mark retaliated with an impossibly strong punch which watermeloned his opponent's head. Fleeing the site in a panic, he would soon begin to discover his nascent power- the ability to shift the density of his body from one region to another. The effects could be seen in the tremendous mass shift into his fist moments before contact, and later in an ability to phase through solid objects in an extremely low-density form. A limitation to his ability was the fact that he could only shunt around density, not entirely remove it.

Evading the authorities pursuing him on charges of murder, and others pursuing him because of his mutation, Mark stole his father's car and, without farewell, set out southwards, to escape the last reminders of his old life.

Name: "Michael" (Uriel Desota)/Das
Age: 31
Occupation: None/Vigilante
Location: St. Louis, Missouri
Physical Description: Large muscular broad-shouldered Caucasian man with short dishevelled black hair. Very youthful; looks ten years younger than he is. Looks rather simple, which isn't helped by the fact that he is smiling all the time. Wears an inexplicable bright yellow raincoat.
Mutant Powers/Abilities:
Spoiler :
"Charisma". Basically a passive telepathic effect that makes everyone more inclined to listen and obey (but it isn't total mind control - i.e. unreasonable commands will likely trigger a hostile reaction - and if people are actually aware of what is happening, they can resist). It also comes with a "social awareness" skill - when dealing with a crowd or with individuals face-to-face, "Michael" can effortlessly sense their prevailing mood, which allows him to see whether his primary ability is working as planned, as well as to sense hostile intent (but nothing beyond just the hostility). Given this ability it'd theoretically be difficult to prove that he is a mutant, but on the other hand, those who speak to him and do not become "converted" always mention that there is something that just feels off about this guy.

Other Skills: Hand-to-hand combat, oratory skills, knowledge and understanding of theology. Knowledge of Hebrew and Koine Greek. Also, cooking.
Possessions:
Injuries: None
Affiliation: The Messengers
Followers: 0 (because he's only just about to get to work)
Background:
Spoiler :
"Michael" appeared in St. Louis out of nowhere a week ago and took to patrolling the streets with what seems to be a strange sense of purpose. Nothing else is known about him... to most people.

A thorough investigation might reveal, however, that he is likely either Uriel or Michael Desota - one of the two sons of Gabriel Desota, a more obvious mutant of a previous generation and the principal leader of the Messengers, a mutant-ran cult-like movement during the 1970s. In 1979 the leaders of the Messengers, Gabriel included, were gunned down by unknown assailants; the twins, however, disappeared and were never heard from again, some testimonies claiming that they were taken to be raised by one of the human members of the cult.

Name: John Michaels/Omega

Age: His actual age is 62, although due to the aging stunt that happened to him, he appears to be only 24
Occupation: Assassin
Location: In the Wilderness in Vietnam
Physical Description: A Mixture of muscular and scrawny, Caucasian, Blue Eyes and Black Hair. Wears an extremely worn-down uniform
Mutant Powers/Abilities: Immunity to chemicals, extreme resistance (don’t want to say immune) to bullets, resistance to other pains, and a huge aging stunt (Due to tests given by the government)
Other Skills: Assassination, How to handle a gun, How to live off the land, Picked up some Vietnamese due to his time
Possessions: Assorted weaponry, survival supplies, camping gear
Injuries: None
Affiliation: U.S. Army
Followers: 0
Background:
Spoiler :
John's history was born in Boston on 1949. Life was rather normal for him, as he had no defining trait that made it notable that he was a mutant. However, in 1968, he had a run-in with the cops, in which he tried to steal some cash from a bank. The fuzz looked in horror as their bullets barely fazed him at all. It was almost as if they weren't even there. It got desperate enough that one rushed and knifed him, which knocked him out.

The Federal Government, which was fighting Vietnam at the time, so they took interest in a seemingly useful mutation. They ordered to local Boston police to hand him over to them, and gave John a deal. They would pardon him if he went to Vietnam. He said yes, as fighting would be better than jail time. In early ‘69, they did multiple tests, mostly involving Agent Orange, just to see if there would be some sort of new mutation like in the comic books of old. At first, it appeared it did nothing, but surprisingly, it stunted his aging to the point that 10 years ages him about 1 year older in relationship to normal people.

In late ‘69, he was shipped over to Vietnam. The hope that he could turn the tide of the war failed, as a single man, no matter how strong he was, could stop an entire army. However, he became a legend, in both to the US Army and in Vietnam, for his ability to take stuff. However, the government refused to allow his story to reach the states.

When the US pulled from the war, John was not. Uncle Sam said that his job wasn’t done, and they still needed him. They would secretly give him aid if he stayed and started to assassinate prominent politicians and generals. They also threatened to expose his mutancy if he didn’t. Seeing the choice between a very long life in a xenophobic world or never returning home (Or at least not in the foreseeable future), he chose the latter, as the physical pain will never hurt as much as the mental.

The physical pain will never hurt as much as the mental

Name: Maria/goou

Age: 24
Occupation: Owner of a thriving stripper club.
Location: New York City. Brooklyn I guess (not familiar with NYC).
Physical Description: Dark-haired beauty.
Mutant Powers/Abilities:
Spoiler :
Able to regulate hormonal secretions of living things. Works as far as 3 street blocks away; no direct sight is needed. She is limited however: if a body she is messing with goes into shock (starts dying, has a nervous breakdown, something of the sort), her powers are locked out until the body recovers; the individual remains incapacitated for a while though. Implied is the ability to sense any organisms she can manipulate within that 3-block radius.

Other Skills: Intelligent, well-schooled, well-cultured.
Possessions: A fortune she has gotten out of her strip club.
Injuries: None
Affiliation: None
Followers: 0
Background:
Spoiler :

Originally Maria was nothing more than a normal NYC girl from an average middle-class family; brighter than most, but normal. She skipped a grade or so, and at the age of 14 began attending the Stuy. She fell rather hard for a boy in her grade, but a 16-year old lured him away from Maria. Maria made a wish to become the prettiest girl in the school, and for her rival to develop more manly features. That is when she discovered her powers, as her wish gradually seemed to be coming true. At first she thought she could only influence hormonal systems gradually, over long periods of time, but by senior year she discovered that her powers had no such limits. Coincidentally, by that time she was also undoubtedly the most attractive girl in the school.

Her intelligence and her naturally perfect teacher recommendations got her into Cornell University, where she spent her time pursuing a liberal arts education, as well as enjoying Cornell itself. Use of her powers made her into one of the most popular girls at the university, very successful, and even more physically attractive.

She graduated at the top of her class and returned to New York. There, she easily secured an initial investment, and purchased and expanded on a strip club in Brooklyn. Using her powers, she began netting some very nice profits. Now, her club is one of the places you just have to see if you ever visit New York, in the same class as the Statue of Liberty.

Quite wealthy, perhaps the best-looking girl in the world, Maria is now indecisive about her future. She could do almost anything she wishes to. Yet one thing's for sure: she's not about to tell anyone about the source of her success.

Name: Cody Tepper/Seon
Age: 28
Occupation: Field Agent of the Special Bureau of Mutant Affairs.
Location: Washington D.C.
Physical Description: Broad-shouldered (realistically, of course) male. Brown hair and brown eyes. Fairly average and unassumiing looking face had paid off many times.
Mutant Powers/Abilities: Superhuman speed and agility (enough to dodge a bullet with ease) and strength (enough to punch through people). He also has slight regeneration and slight resistance to damage (slight means slight.).
Other Skills: Weapons proficiency. Investigation. Tracking. Close-combat mastery.
Possessions: Desert Eagle (.50 cal). Wakizashi (small katana). HUD sunglass
Injuries: None
Affiliation: DMA
Followers: Dlanor Knox (Telekinetic. Burnt). Orwell (Telepath. Uninjured, but obese).
Spoiler :

"Why do you do this job again?"

Tepper stared blankly into the light. The psych-evaluator's sillouette stirred slightly.

Silence. Tepper shrugged. "Someone has to do it."

Cody Tepper was born in South Carolina to a father who taught him that there were two kinds of people in the world. The two being the Bad people and the Good people. People who did bad things were bad people, and the people who did good things were the good people.

And Cody couldn't help but drop his jaw slightly in a classic "No Duh?" stance. In some aspects, though, this was an important lesson. The prevailing stance towards Mutants during that time in the South was that they were all bunch of cutthroats and thieves. Many were, indeed, bunch of cutthroats and thieves. Society often pushed the things it didn't wish to see under its rugs where all sorts of monsters roamed.

Then his father died. Attacked by a mutant and fried to crisp by lightning. Cody punched a wall that day, and to his surprise his fist went straight through it.

His father was, Cody later found out, a mutant vigilante. The man had been hunting down other mutant criminals and incapaciating them for the police to find. An evil action, Cody imagined his father telling him. Was evil no matter how one would look at it. There could be no justification. While it was the police's responsibility for the arrest of the criminals, they were often corrupt and sometimes incapable of arresting certain mutants. Even if they could, many people may still die in the attempt. Therefore, the man took it as his responsibility to arrest the mutants causing trouble himself.

He was still, in Cody's mind, :):):):):):):):) crazy. But Cody found himself agreeing more and more with him as time passed. In time, he found himself in his father's shoes, hunting down mutants just like he did. That was when the Bureau of Mutant Affairs approached him with a job offer he couldn't refuse.

Name: Stephen Hunter/Haseri
Age: 30
Occupation: DMA agent
Location: Queens, NYC
Physical Description: Bald Caucasian, slightly overweight
Mutant Powers/Abilities: Mind Reader. However, mutants with mind-altering powers are blank to him.
Other Skills: Basic security stuff that comes with the training.
Possessions: Handgun, DMA identity card
Injuries: None
Affiliation: Department of Mutant Affairs
Followers: 0
Background:
Spoiler :
Had leukaemia as child. Survived, but he doesn't have a hair on his body. Stephen's power manifested while in middle school - imagine as a teenager suddenly finding out exactly what your friends, your teachers and even the person you fancied thought of you. After a brief flirtation with deep depression, Stephen was determined to make it work. Throughout high school and college he was the best friend and partner anyone could ask for, though he kept his power secret.

With his power, Stephen knew he was going to go into law enforcement. However the police didn't want him. They said it was medical thing, but Stephen suspected it was because he was a mutant. So he went to work with the TSA, and now checks people coming through. Despite considerable success (he once stopped a terrorist that had slipped past everything else), he has meagre pay and is abused constantly by people saying he's 'infringing on their liberties' by probing their minds.

However, he puts up with it for two reasons. The first is the occasional person who thanks him for his job. The second is his wife, Lauren, who is also a mutant. Her 'power' is a rather awful one. To most people who see her, she is no more than an object. Guys (and girls) that see her can usually think of nothing else for a while. They undress her with their minds and feature heavily in 'alone time' fantasies, if Stephen's friends are anything to go by.

To Stephen, however, her looks are nothing special. Not terrible but certainly not head-turning like other people say. And she loves the fact she's found somebody that's interested in her for more than her looks. And he can't read her mind, so he can relax with her after a long day of listening to other people's thoughts. It's an odd relationship, yes, but they've been married for 4 years now, and been together for 10, so something must be going right.

Name: August "Sonereal" Salazar/Sonreal
Age: ~24
Occupation: Varies
Location: Indianapolis, Indiana
Physical Description: Average height. Average weight....average. Brown hair. Blues eyes. Biracial.
Mutant Powers/Abilities:
Spoiler :
Shapeshifting and Psisonic abilities based on "consumption". August can "drain" the sheer essence of any living being, powering his physic abilities. Draining younger people allows him to stay youthful. He can also shapeshift to any person he recently absorbed (limit a month) and in the form, have full access to the form's knowledge, memories, and more. In his normal form, he has "residuals" of the knowledge, skills, and memories of everyone but without practice, many of these abilities simply fade away (kinda like math skills). This includes mutant abilities but of course, those can't be used to full effect. Its fully possible for him to "shapeshift" to an anagram of the many life beings he's shaped into (a chimera) but its very uncomfortable.

Other Skills: Musician (namely piano and saxophone), writer, decent at math. Speed reader. Decent computer skills.
Possessions: Average-looking clothes and shoes, shotgun, bullet resistant trenchcoat
Injuries: None

Background: August Salazar was born in the harsh mountains of Williamson, West Virginia. At the age of 10, his family was killed by anti-mutant townsfolk but family friends (one a mutant) saved him and brought him west to Indianapolis.

He's since split with those people because of their humanistic approach to dealing with the way normal humans treat mutants. At some point, August was attacked by assailants and left in the alley. He's homeless so he's pretty much starting off from scratch.

Name: Magnus Andersen/Anonymoose
Age:43
Occupation:Lead official, Florida Governor's special mutant task-force, (Kappa Team)
Location: Gainesville, FL
Physical Description: Average build, six feet tall, slightly graying hair. He has green eyes and has no facial hair. He has pianist's hands, but never picked up an instrument. His voice is a tenor, but he has never considered singing. He is perpetually in a suit, it seems, and usually dons some sunglasses.
Mutant Powers/Abilities: Magnus has a passive mutant ability that gives him (virtually) indomitable will. He has overcome rivals and enemies, as well as his fair share of traumatic injury through sheer willpower. (I hope this explanation means something. I don't know how else to explain it, he just wills himself to keep going, to the point that most humans would break, whether it be from injury or, say, an attack by a psionic mutant.)
Other Skills: Standard police training, investigative training, and mutant-hunting training.
Possessions: Guns, sunglasses, phone, trident chewing-gum, and about fifty bucks, probably.
Injuries: none yet
Affiliation: Loyal to the governor of Florida, affiliated with Kappa team particularly.
Followers: 0
Background:
Spoiler :
Magnus was born in Gainesville and went through school and all police training there. His life until joining Kappa Team was unremarkable. He was no good at relationships, and after several failures after joining the force in his early adulthood led him to shun personal relationships. His only living relative is his father, who lives in a nursing home in Orlando. Since he joined the task force, he has, for lack of a better word, hunted potentially dangerous mutants in the Kappa Team's third district, Southern Florida. He has no idea that his indomitable will has helped him fend of the attacks of psionic mutants and helped him talk down numerous suicide attempts. He has intimidated mutants that could have killed lesser men, and is on his way to a promotion, where he will lead a squad that does... dirtier work for the governor. With new technology on its way and promotion in the future, Magnus stands to gain much from the persecution of mutants.

Name: Barnabas White/Megaman zx
Age: 19
Occupation: College Student
Location: NYC, NY
Physical Description: tall and skinny, bald with black aviators and hood on most of the time. He has multiple facial piercings.
Mutant Powers/Abilities: His main power is that he has extremely good luck. He can also read emotions, and like telepathy, he can send his emotions to others, which, since he is suicidally depressed usually have negative effects on his target.
other abilities: failed poet (like most emos, no offense)Possessions: had a duffle bag with guns and some guns on him, now, nothing
Injuries: head wound... various scrapes and bruises
Affiliation: None
Followers: little mutant kid (powers based on fear, usually in the form of nightmares, no injuries)
Background:
Spoiler :
As a child he always had almost everything he wanted through chance and good luck. If he was hungry and had no money he would happen to find that someone had just dropped a twenty dollar bill. If he didn’t study for a test he could guess at the answers and score a high grade. The only thing which luck didn’t help him with was his depression, and on attempt to commit suicide, some lucky encounter would prevent him, so he thinks of himself as more of a slave to luck. He does not try to take advantage of his powers in the form of gambling, etc. but floats through life, ditching school and passing his exams with lucky guesses. In high school he killed one of his classmates who had decided to bully him by sending his depressed emotions into his opponent, which caused him to commit suicide. Later, after yet another failed suicide attempt, Barnabas finished school and went to college in NY.

Name: Eugene Emmons/Kozmos
Age: 34
Occupation: Bounty Hunter / Private Investigator
Location: Cameron Parish, Great State of Louisiana, USA
Physical Description: Tall, white, brown hair mullet style, brown-yellow-green eyes, muscled, slight beard and sideburns. Would be attractive if he cleaned up.
Mutant Powers/Abilities:
Spoiler :
Supercharged biomodification. He is in complete control of his body, can morph it into blades, claws, whips, extra muscle mass, shield and whatever he thinks of. This means he can run fast or reinforce his skin with monomolecular plates to resist bullets and beat the crap out of people with his enhanced strength. Theoretically he could turn invisible or even shapeshift, but Eugene is a simple redneck and quite uncomfortable with such notions because he loves his ten inch penis and three testicles. Boobs would just be too weird. Using his abilities makes him very hungry however as all transformations require mass and/or energy.

Other Skills: Offroad driving, Hunting, Killing, Skinning, Barbecue, Moonshining, Drinking, CQC skills
Possessions: A pickup truck, pair of handcuffs for criminals, R700 rifle, shotgun, M1911 handgun and a mobile home (trailer) he sometimes uses.
Injuries: A few chemical imbalances in the brain
Affiliation: Registered Republican
Followers: 1 (Cousin Charlotte who has a crush on him, stays in trailer and cooks, sometimes more)
Background:
Spoiler :
Eugene was born on a parking lot outside of a liquor store in 1977. His mother was an alcoholic and his father a closet pedophile. Although a bit dense, he was smart for a hillbilly but lazy so when he barely completed high school, he declined his football scholarship and went to join the Marine Corps. There he learned how to fight and it reaffirmed his fondness for guns and explosions. Also, his hatred for towelheads and AIDSed homosexuals in the military and otherwise.

He served several tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. Managing to survive several IED explosions thanks to his powers he always cursed them bearded sand negroes for blowing up his pimped out military Humvees and decided to go get his revenge at night by massacring several villages that he suspected were harboring them. The higher ups soon noticed this disturbing trend and coupled with an incident when a friendly soldier saw his leg regenerate after it was blown off by an RPG led to a quiet, but honorable discharge.

Returning to his native Louisana, he applied his skills to hunting escaped criminals, people on the wanted listed and other minor legal or illegal work that people hire him for.

Physical Description: Tall, around 6'1", covered from head to tail in green scales. Claw-like fingernails, and no hair. His irises are all red.
Mutant Powers/Abilities: He can dominate the minds of any number of animals to do his bidding, his extra thick scaled hide makes him almost impervious to gun fire, knives, etc., but doesn't protect him much against electricity, explosives, fire, etc.
Other Skills: Wilderness survival, knows how to shoot guns (raised by rednecks), can build primitive weapons, 4th grade reading level.
Possessions: Green anole (lizard), flies
Injuries: Cut on his forehead (due to .410 birdshot)
Affiliation: None
Followers: None. At least no human ones.
Background:
Spoiler :
Al E. Gator started out life as Lee E. Roberts, the son of a white trash trailer park family outside of Orlando, FL. From the get-go, people knew he was different, the boy covered in scales from head to toe, no hair, and those frightening red eyes. He was ridiculed for all of his school days, and his parents were as well. Though his mother loved him, his father thought him an abomination. When he was only 10 yeas old, at the beginning of his fifth grade year, his mother was involved in a tragic hunting accident which cost her her life. Lee's father, blaming this child that repulsed him for the death of his dear wife, and in a drunken stupor, loaded his son up in his pickup one night and drove him out into the middle of the Everglades, where he dumped the boy, hoping he'd be killed off by the elements. Though he hated the monstrosity that as his son, he still couldn't bring himself to kill the boy outright.

Without his father's knowledge, however, the boy survived. He had always had a special connection with the various pets in the trailer park, but everyone believed that was just because he looked to weird to make real friends his age. However, what no one, even little Lee knew, was that he was able to control the animals with his mind. Sitting there, in the middle of the swamp in the middle of that late September night, a hungry gator, looking for its last meal of the year, came up to eat the boy. He was, however, no match for Lee's mind, and the child was able to control the gator to fetch him food himself.

After years of living amongst the various animals of the Everglades, he had finally decided to strike back at, what he believed, to be the true problem with the world: humans. With the help of the swamp creatures, he has begun to wage a small-scale guerrilla war against the human oppressors. He has also re-christened himself Al E. Gator, partly to show his connection with animals, and partly to make it harder for the authorities to track him down.

Name: Hermann Schatten a.k.a "Projekt Nichtvorhandensein" a.k.a. "Noman"/Owen Glyndwr
Spoiler :
3959089_f248.jpg

Age: 88
Occupation: Prisoner
Location: Currently in a high security detention center somewhere in S Nevada
Physical Description: Hermann does not have any appearance per say. Generally he is a shapeless darkness residing in low-light areas. He occasionally takes a more ethereal, humanoid form, and this looks vaguely like an obscured man in a trenchcoat and hat.
Mutant Powers/Abilities:
Spoiler :
Shadow powers. Hermann is immune to physical damage of any kind, and does not age. He can change size and form at will, allowing him to fit in the smallest of cracks. As for attacks, when he touches someone he paralyzes them and drains them of life force, killing them if given enough time. For the weak-willed, this can happen in a matter of seconds, though in the empowered, this process can take far longer to bring about. Hermann is weakened by pure light, and is susceptible to energy-based attacks as well.

Possessions: None
Injuries: Hermann is currently weakened and has trouble maintaining thoughts due to being kept in a room filled with pure light for 70 years, though these will go away should he be freed from his containment.
Affiliation: Nazis
Followers: 0
Background:
Spoiler :
Hermann was a soldier of 22 when he was selected for the Ubermensch program in 1943. Like most in this program, Hermann was not given the choice of entering the program, and like most, the experiments he was subjected to in order to bring out the "best of his Aryan blood" was brutal, wreaking havoc on his body. In September of 1943 an error in the process resulted in Hermann losing his physical form, and becoming the shadowy figure of today. Seeing the grand potential of such a being, Nazi administrators of the program detained Hermann and throughout 44 and into 45 performed experiments, testing the limits to his abilities, referring to him as "Projekt Nichtvorhandensein." In the early months of 1945 an American division discovered the testing facility and unwittingly released the abomination into the world, all losing their lives in the process. Having not seen the outside world since his transformation, and having only a hazy recollection of his past life, Hermann wandered aimlessly for some time, before coming upon a village, killing all the inhabitants therein. This aggression attracted the attention of the Allied Generals, who lost a large contingent of troops who were dispatched to investigate. Once realizing the nature of the creature that was Projekt Nichtvorhandensein, the United States dispatched a mutant of their own who possessed powers over light, who subdued and captured Projekt Nichtvorhandensein in 1946 in US occupied SW Germany. Hermann was taken to Arizona where he was dubbed "Noman" after the Homeric myth, and subjected to experiments by the US Military. Over the next couple of months, Noman proved difficult to test upon, mounting several successful escape attempts, resulting in the deaths of several soldiers, as well as a couple civilians during one escape attempt. Sometime in the mid-50s Noman was deemed too dangerous to entertain as a potential weapon for use by the US, and so was moved to a specially created detention cell in Area-51 in Nevada, where he has resided ever since.

Name: Max Hoffman AKA Fenris AKA Lobizon AKA BLOODWOLF/Shadowbound
Age: 98
Occupation: Anti-Insurgency Specialist
Location: Colombia
Physical Description: Hoffman is thin and lean, 6'2" but only 170 lbs. His Interpol file has him as black-haired and blue-eyed, but notes a tendency to dye his hair or go bald. His face is gaunt, but would be almost handsome if he made any effort. His regeneration has left him how he was in 1939, without change.
Mutant Powers/Abilities: Hyperdiamond body, next to impervious to damage and capable of regenerating in moments. Can create claws that can shear through steel. Like Wolverine.
Other Skills: Bloodwolf has had a century to practice the art of killing. From a distance, through others, or up close with his claws. He is a tactician, and a consummate asymmetrical warrior, equally at home in a city or a jungle. He knows his way around explosives, and espionage, and has some small talent at cooking. Above all he is a Predator, a killing machine, perfectly honed and with no limits.
Possessions: Swiss bank accounts, trenchcoat, nice selection of knives
Injuries: None
Affiliation: Nazis
Followers: 0 (Anyone who has decided you're worth following if you decide to be a leader)
Background:
Spoiler :
Karl Hoffman is a career soldier. He has been a die-hard Nazi since 1928, and was an early recruit into the Waffen SS. He was a cruel, short-tempered man and a bitter racist who blamed much of Germany's ills on the Jews.

He was a test-subject for Germany's ubermensch program, to artificially induce mutation and create superpowered super soldiers. 80% died, 15% had horrible deformities, but Hoffman was one of the lucky 5% that emerged as the next pinnacle of human evolution. His musculoskeletal system was replaced with a new organic hyperdiamond compound, as strong as diamond and capable of rapidly regenerating.

Fenris (as the German propaganda machine dubbed him) was a vicious combatant and could easily stand up to vast numbers of opponents. In the early years of the war he was used to devastating effect on the front lines, and when Hitler invaded Russia he was in the vanguard. He was feared by Russian forces for his willingness, and ability, to singlehandedly engage tank platoons, ripping through the turrets to the juicy insides.

In 1943 Fenris was gravely wounded in battle for the Russian city of Kursk, and was sent back to Germany to recuperate. Upon regaining full health he was transferred to Dachau. It was here that he brutally murdered hundreds of Jewish prisoners. Tales of mutilation and cannibalism from the survivors sickened the world. When his war crimes were uncovered the world press gave Fenris a new name, Bloodwolf.

In the final days of the war, Bloodwolf fled Germany along with many other war criminals and to this day he is considered one of the top three war criminals of World War II. He would appear as an enforcer for South American dictators, combating Marxist insurgencies and spreading his legend as the Lobizon. Pinochet, Trujillo, "Papa Doc", and Fujimori are references on his resume. Despite efforts by the Mossad and others to bring him in, he's repeatedly demonstrated his ability to elude or kill all efforts to bring him to justice.

Mutant Powers/Abilities: Superhuman strength, agility and endurance, with nearly invulnerable skin that protects him from the majority of harm that comes his way.

Background:
Spoiler :

Born in Bavaria as Klauss Eisen in 1916 he became an avid supporter of the new National Socialist party in the late 20s and early 30s, joining the military in the mid 30s and staying active as an infantryman for years. Showing valor on the battlefield in 39 and 40, he was recruited into the ubermensch program by his superiors and underwent forced mutations to become what he is today. Super strength and invulnerability are understatements to his power. During his recovery from the programs initial steps in early 41 he personally rejoined the front lines in Russia, fighting with his soldiers to Stalingrad, where he would later be turned back by the sheer resilience of the marxist scum.

On the retreat from the Russian front he was sent to various prison camps to execute the inmates, to save ammunition for the Soviet threat. It is rumored he brutally murdered over four thousand individuals this way, with his bare hands.

He fled Germany in 1945, along with other well known war criminals and made his way around Africa in the immediate postwar years. In 1947 he returned to Europe, but not to Germany, as he found himself deep within Soviet territory disrupting the systems of their growth and stability. It is rumored he personally strangled Stalin, but this is debatable. He spent the late 40's, 50's, through the 80's sabotaging factories, assassinating leading Soviet officials and causing as much mayhem as one superhuman could in such an environment. After the collapse of the USSR, which he credits solely to himself, he moved to Norway and spent months abroad searching for survivors of the ubermensch program.

Later to find the one know as Bloodwolf, and beckon him towards New York City.

Name: Set (many people have called him by many names throughout his life)/Freemanuncg
Age:
Spoiler :
Unknown, at least more than One hundred and ten thousand years, he awoke at the end of the last ice age when the Siachen Glacier rolled back exposing the cave in which he slept in northern India. His memories from before the ice age are fragmented due to the hundred millennia long sleep under glacial ice with no nourishment.

Occupation:
Spoiler :
No true occupation, in recent years he has become more of a watcher afraid that his influence throughout time has done more harm than good.

Location:
Spoiler :
He has spent the last century and a half living in a modest home in a low population area in Northern England near Dumfries, and has only left home for short periods of time to interact with the developing world.

Physical Description: Long shaggy Black hair, smooth pale skin, bright almost sparkling grey eyes, a hooked nose, and a thin mouth. He is 193 cm tall and is eerily lithe. His arms, legs, and fingers are also long and thin. He is wearing a black leather bomber jacket with a black tee shirt, blue jeans, and a pair of blue sneakers.
Mutant Powers/Abilities:
Spoiler :
Set is in the simplest of terms a vampire, not a mythical creature but a mutant which craves and needs constant massive transfusions of human blood to continue to stay active and involved in the world. He cannot by ingestion or transfusion of his blood turn a human into a being like him self every attempt has led to painful death by radiation poisining for the human. Most of his powers are linked directly to the consumption of human blood, on a night when he has fed at least once he is at his normal level of power, meaning that he is very fast and strong (these are mostly for feeding and concealment), however his main power is the ability to create an infinitely complex and detailed illusion that only a mutant with advanced psychic powers could penetrate. This illusion is going to be his most important tool and by far the most important of his powers the rest being designed almost entirely to keep him alive, while the illusion power will be his method of affecting the actions of those whom he wishes to control to progress his plans and ensure mutant freedom. He can be very seriously wounded by exposure to direct sunlight, furthermore his powers are significantly reduced during the day especially his strength and speed, his ability to project a glamour is also weakened not in the complexity of the ability but in the number of people it can affect. His abilities also decline rapidly as consecutive nights pass without him taking a victim, within a few days he would be quite weak and only able to exercise his powers at great need, for example to escape or to feed. He can exist in this state for sometime but at about the limit of a year without feeding he will become inactive and unable to rise from his resting place to hunt. In this unconscious state he can exist indefinitely (having certainly survived some 100 thousand years, most of the last ice age, in such a state. Though some deterioration took place because of the extraordinary length of that particular sabbatical) and is usually woken from such a state when a human stumbles upon his resting place and his body automatically responds and feeds (this is not a conscious action). In Very recent years with the growth of the mutant population and the emergence of mutants into the spotlight of society, he decided to question his own powers, and discovered that he was in fact, a mutant, his mutated DNA constantly regenerated and hardened his body for many thousands of years, he also discovered that his super charged blood cells radioactively decay at an astounding rate when exposed to direct sunlight. The opposite side of his gradually weakening power however is the result that is achieved when he gorges on blood, his powers increase exponentially the more times he feeds in quick succession on a night or even on consecutive nights. This however is a slippery slope because the blood and the power are an overwhelming addiction for him and when he begins a killing spree he often finds it hard to stop killing until he is forced to flee and go into hiding until the bloodlust has passed.

Other Skills:
Spoiler :
Having interacted with great figures throughout history he has accrued a wealth of knowledge and experience. He has an obsession with math and science connected to his desire to bring order to chaos and keeps informed of scientific progress in the technological era. He can also speak almost any language a trick that is not hard to pull off if you have been around before most of today’s’ languages were ever spoken by human lips.

Possessions:
Spoiler :
He has no wealth acquired through the ages and his home is not a fortress only a place of refuge he retires to when he desires to escape the human world. He has no possessions on him other than the clothing he is wearing. His home contains a modest lab where he has done experiments on his own powers in the last century helping him to discover some of the truth behind his power.

Injuries: Consuming of the blood of a human will restore him from any injury.
Affiliation:
Spoiler :
None currently, however he has been connected to many groups throughout his long life, he has sought to bring progress and order to the chaos of human civilization. Unfortunately he has often found his plans going terribly awry and raining death and destruction upon the people he tried to help.

Followers: None
Background:
Spoiler :
He is on one hand a ruthless, remorseless mass murderer. On the other a progressive immortal trying to accomplish what he sees as his purpose in his unnaturally long life of trying to bring order to the chaotic world through whatever means have been available to him throughout time. He has had successes and failures, his most recent failure left him deeply shaken when the ordered dreams of the Nazi party turned sour and turned into the bloodbath that was the holocaust the wheel of time turned once more as he sank into a mad feeding frenzy and then eventually fled Germany for his home near Dumfries where he spent most of the rest of the war, and the next half century brooding on his failure. As Set enters the story he has decided to avoid the mistakes of the past he needs to seek out other mutants and do what he can to ensure all of their freedoms, and to help the mutants establish their place in the world. He has left his home and journeyed to the center of the rising mutant phenomena, hoping once again to try and bring order to the chaos of mutant liberation, all the while trying to conceal his own dark secrets.

New York subway loses power; Mutant sabotage suspected

A subway car lost power on Thursday night stranding commuters for hours after a girl boarded and touched the hand-railing causing sparks to fly and a surge of current to destroy most of the light. The train came to a halt and panic spread throughout the car. The girl described as Caucasian, 5 ft 6 in in height wearing a black NYU hoodie pried the doors open and left the car. Police are seeking to bring her in for questioning. Her whereabouts are unknown. If you have any information contact the NYPD.

Mutants Beaten in Alabama High-school

An African-American visible mutant, with horns was beaten by a group of teenagers at his high-school. He was cornered in the locker room by a group of three males who spat at him and called him "demon spawn" and a "tool of Satan". When he tried to leave he was assaulted by the three males. He was hospitalized with a broken collarbone, three cracked ribs, and a broken arm. The attack has sparked outrage among mutant rights groups who have been demanding hate crime legislation which has so far been stymied in the Senate despite being passed in the House. With the Republican majority now in the House and larger Republican presence in the Senate it seems unlikely that hate crime legislation will be passed. The case has been taken up by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

Name: John Michaels
Age: His actual age is 62, although due to the aging stunt that happened to him, he appears to be only 24
Occupation: Assassin
Location: In the Wilderness in Vietnam
Physical Description: A Mixture of muscular and scrawny, Caucasian, Blue Eyes and Black Hair. Wears an extremely worn-down uniform
Mutant Powers/Abilities: Immunity to chemicals, extreme resistance (don’t want to say immune) to bullets, resistance to other pains, and a huge aging stunt (Due to tests given by the government)
Other Skills: Assassination, How to handle a gun, How to live off the land, Picked up some Vietnamese due to his time
Possessions: (I will decide this based on your background, age, occupation, and so forth)
Injuries: None
Affiliation: U.S. Army

Background:

Mark was breathing heavily as the stolen car edged to a halt. It was a frosty winter morning, and his breath fogged the windows. With a nervous glance, he stared outside.

The church was recognizable. He had been here in the past... long in the past.

Steeling himself, Mark opened the door and stepped outside. His boots sank deep into the snow, and he trudged towards the door.

It was a humble building. A small billboard proclaimed the season's greetings, and a nativity scene sat half-buried under the fresh snow. Mark imagined for a moment that the austere gathering of men were there to dig out the little boy in the center of the display, and laughed briefly- his first in some time.

Now at the door, Mark hesitated. He could still turn away- but to where? Tears only barely managed to remain within his eyes as he considered. With his face locked into a flat grimace, he knocked twice on the church door.

Hmm. Karalysia, how many mutants are there in the US? As in, what % of the overall population?

Also, would it be possible to recruit weak NPC mutants as Followers?

At this point I would venture no more than 3-5% of the population in the US, somewhere around 1 million to 2 million. They are however growing with some degree of rapidity due to unknown causes. So far there hasn't been much of an effort to count them, though some groups are pressuring the government to do just that as part of mutant registration laws. It may simply be that the mutant population is larger but remain undetected due to looking human. Thus far there is no guaranteed way to easily identify non-visible mutants (that is mutants without physical mutations) which is the main thing standing in the way of any meaningful effort to develop mutant registration laws. But that may change in the future as technology improves.

Yes you can if you can create a character in a story and its justified, and not game breaking.

Bronislav pulled over at the corner of 48th and Sixth Avenue, unloading the obnoxious Texan family of three on the snow dusted curb. It was a small fare with no tip, but he didn't care...they could have very well just walked the seventeen blocks instead.

As he headed back towards the mob of easy fare at the Garden, the radio's music broke to a woman speaking.

A suspect is still at-large after the illegal shutdown of the city's F-Line. The NYPD is looking for a young, Caucasian woman of medium build who is believed to be a student at NYU. She was last seen fleeing a stopped subway train between the 75th Street station and Queensborough Plaza, headed west towards Queensborough Plaza via the tunnels. The suspect is believe to be a mutant, and thus highly dan-

With disgust, Bronislav clicked off the radio. As far as he knew, "mutants" weren't violent nor dangerous...although he would be considered an exception. He had killed many men and women, some whose deaths made world headlines, some whose deaths prevented headlines, and some which no one seemed to care about or notice.

He schivered. If someone had told you reporters had been killed by a naked assassin, you would have laughed them out of the room. If you had seen the dreams that haunted Bronislav at night, you would not believe what you saw.

A woman, eating breakfast. Dark bread, eggs, sausage, porridge, coffee...all filling the room with interesting scents. She read the paper alone...her two young children at school, her husband busy selling cellular phones. Soon she would go to her office in downtown St. Petersburg to finish her article which should run next week. Meanwhile, a man, clad in absolutely nothing, stands on the kitchen counter. She doesn't see him unscrew the lightbulb, and afterwards, she sees nothing at all. As she goes to the light switch, he goes to her. She produces a phone, he produces a gun. Before her call connects, the bullet cuts through her skull. He stares into the crater that was once the back of a head and lifts the phone from the ground. A man is asking what his wife wanted-

A knocking on the window snaps him out of his trance. A man steps in and takes a seat in the back.

JFK, terminal three please. And I'll give you 10 extra if you get me there before 4:35.

Of course, sir. I can get you there, no problems.

Had an idea for a federal police force made out of mutants and dedicated to hunting down other mutants. Would that be allowed, Karalysia?

@Omega, I would prefer if your character either starts in North America, (specifically USA but I suppose Canada and Mexico is also ok) or travels to North America in short order. It's just easier to deal with and makes more sense for player interaction.

BTW updates are a combination of: your stories + a list of actions you can reasonably achieve in 2 weeks + PC and NPC interaction and actions + events=update

Yeah?

Like Strykers purifiers? Yes, though provide background story and justification for their motivations for doing so and turning against their own kind and so forth.

A random dirty street in Manhattan. A strange looking hobo sits on the stairs to the subway together with 2 more. They are having a funny time together drinking and making jokes. One of them shares his food with the others but does not eat any. A few hours later as the two fall a sleep he becomes bored and leaves.

It is a boring existence to be alive for so long. Yet this era feels different, as if entertainment will soon strike down. The rise of the mutant population is intriguing and I am ready for this era more than any other before.

The strange looking man walks down to the subway and begs for food and money from people while asking questions about the event that have taken place lately.

Name: Maria
Age: 24
Occupation: Owner of a thriving stripper club.
Location: New York City. Brooklyn I guess (not familiar with NYC).
Physical Description: Dark-haired beauty. More detail in the background.

Name: Cody Tepper
Age: 28
Occupation: Field Agent of the Special Bureau of Mutant Affairs.
Location: Washington D.C.
Physical Description: Broad-shouldered (realistically, of course) male. Brown hair and brown eyes. Fairly average and unassumiing looking face had paid off many times.

Mutant Powers/Abilities: Superhuman speed (enough to dodge a bullet with ease) and strength (enough to punch through people).

Other Skills: Weapons proficiency. Investigation. Tracking.

Possessions: A semi-automatic pistol and a dart gun.

Injuries: None

Affiliation: The Feds.

Background: "Why do you do this job again?"

Tepper stared blankly into the light. The psych-evaluator's sillouette stirred slightly.

Silence. Tepper shrugged. "Someone has to do it."

Spoiler :

((OOC: Merry Christmas guys))

“Give me your tired, your poor,” and so Raul had come.

Now he stands at the base of that majestic green lady, he knows that the points on her crown are meant to represent the continents and in the one that points the most to the south, he imagines, is the one that summoned him, pointed to him, called out upon a ignorant and frightened boy and demanded he ask more out of his life.

“Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,” and so Raul inhales but the air does not taste so different to him. Raul remembers the libraries he had always visited, where he had taught himself English and almost everything else, in Costa Rica he remembers spending hours in one, poring over descriptions of Tupac Amaru, of Simon Bolivar. He remembers reading faster and faster, as though the next word, each and every next word, held the keys to his salvation. After hours, he remembers, the library attendant had approached poor unassuming, quiet Raul and said to him, “You are not a member, you have to leave. We do not allow vagrants in our building.”

And Raul hadn't said anything, simply stood and quietly left when asked. He had put down the book and shook his head, he had been there for hours and now they wanted rid of him? Because he didn't have the right paperwork? Raul quickly stopped worrying about having been evicted, what he remembers being moved by was how long he had managed to get along without the right paperwork and how much he had learned before he'd been removed.

“The wretched refuse of your teeming shore,” seems at least like a fair description of how North Americans saw their latin brothers. Raul had walked from Rio Grande to New York and people were always assuming he wanted to clean their yards, that he had a genetic predisposition to manual labor and a cultural tendency towards laziness when confronted about it. Raul had taught himself how to speak English, Raul had spent many disciplined hours in Mexico taking apart, cleaning, reassembling rifles, handguns. Lazy? Stupid? These yanquis didn't even know him!

“Send these, the homeless, tempest tossed to me.” When Raul was born he did not have a home, he was born directly into the tempest. At a Coca plantation on the border of Bolivia in Peru he was thrust into this world, the love child of a pair of laborers, brought on to make pennies an hour along their side, trying to make ends meet, although they never did, and simply lived in shacks on the plantation and skipped as many meals as they could survive. At 17 Raul remembers having enough of it, and he had run. The guards chasing him, he remembers them firing their bullets, loud banging through the jungle.

Raul remembers the desperate, strange, thought as they closed on him, If only the bullets were made out of foam, feathers, nothing, or anything not quite so hard and sharp.

Raul remembers stories about Jesus from Mass. Jesus was the greatest master of transmutations the world had ever seen, water to wine, death to life. Raul knew that he didn't have that sort of talent. Jesus could turn hate into love.

But the bullets had turned to foam, and that miracle was enough to start with. Maybe he wasn't Jesus, Raul didn't think he could turn hate into love. But as a Catholic he also thought that it would be a disrespect to his Lord, to the world that Lord had created and all of his beloved creatures not to at least try. And so he went to the center of all the hate, he walked there and hitchhiked.

“I lift my lamp besides the Golden Door!” And Raul turns to head back to the ferry, he toys with his kerchief and wraps it around his hand as he looks at Ellis Island with a sad sort of smile. His breath hangs visibly in the air, tiny clouds in the icy Manhattan air.

“Gimme your Wallet,” Raul hears suddenly behind him. He always walks alone through the shadows, in the heart of hate this sort of thing is to be expected. A black man, probably just another tool of the drug industry, a slave to cocaine here so far from the plantations.

“Go in peace, friend,” Raul advises him. The man waves a gun and Raul only smiles as he watches it turn to wood. His hand grows heavy, heavy, and then a quick thrust into the poor man's abdomen. All of his air sweeps out of his lungs in one heavy blast and he crumples to the ground as his clothing turns into water.

The steely glint of the bandana flashes one last time as it flutters back into cloth.

“Go in peace,” he kneels down at the naked, bewildered man's side, “Serve the Lord.”

And Raul turns, hoping to still catch his ferry.
