I like to work on two scenarios at a time so when I tire of working on one, I can work on the other for a while. So here are some possible scenarios I can design:
Alternate history, as always.
Europe fails to colonize America, initially at least:
Black Plague kills 3/4 instead of 1/4. Europe is weakened, and Turks rise to prominence, but still unable to conquer Europe. American civs rise to power, especially the Central American civs. Asia also holds two powers. Was is to become of the world as the Industrial age takes hold in the Americas and Eurasia?
Spanish Armada victory
What if the Spanish Armada had won? I drew a potential world map of Circa 1900 of that world. Ireland, for one, is much more powerful, as is the Netherlands, and "The United Holy Kingdom" based of the Holy Roman Empire (well, in name at least). The UHK conissts of Portugal, Spain, France, and Italy. The Netherlands ended up conquering Whales and England (IReland took Scotland), and Belgium. Australia is divided into four pieces. Mexico is also a contendor! While the USA and CSA, still at each others throats, dream of extending thier territories past the Mississippi to gain an edge over the other, but will have to make some allies to do so.
Imperialist America:
What if America had always been an Imperialist power and built an empire for itself in the Americas *beyond what we really control*, and globablly. I'll need to research the timeline of Imperialism a bit on this one, however it could prove interesting. This may include some civs that were not imperialist also going imperialist, and maybe an imperialist nation going non-imperialist.
Age of Ambition:
What if there had been no world war one? We assume some of the weapons of war were developed, if later. In the 1930s/40s of such a world, you can take the reigns of a large selection of powers, both east and west, and establish yourself as a superpower. (I'd make infantry, and other units more unique to each nation here... which could make it interesting. This would also allow smaller civs on the map that were major powers to maintain strength)
Non-Nuetral Swiss:
What if the Swiss had slowly, over its early history, had risen to become a bigger player in Europe? Perhaps even having access to the seas before colinization began? Would a signifigant Swiss presence in the Americas, and weakened neighboring states changed history? (debateable start time here)
I leave it up to you decide.
