NBA Offseason/Labormagedon thread

Do the owners realize how idiotic they look when they play the "we're losing money!" card? No one has any sympathy for you. Especially when you keep throwing hundreds of millions of dollars at chumps like Rashard Lewis. It reminds me of this video.

Yeah, the NBA doesn't have the leverage to go with no guaranteed contacts. The best they can get is to lower the years on a contract to say, three, and to institute another cap-forgiveness clause.

The union is decertified. We can kiss this season goodbye now. It's possible every current contract could be voided.

Yeah, I have to agree with Kraz here. Taking this crap out of Hunter's hands can only be a good thing.

should've happened three months ago.

Agreed. IMO their case would have been more credible then - waiting this long is
going to make them look like a spoiled brat throwing a tantrum because he didn't get his way.

We are seriously going to lose a season over the sign and trade. ffffffffffffffffffffff

The players should have just taken the offer, I doubt they are going to win anything in court.

All the journalists I read said the players could prob get a better deal in court, but the revenue everybody is going to lose from not having a season make it a wash. Getting 53% of a much smaller pie isn't much of a win.

I think they'll end up getting 47% actually.

Anyways, since I can't play fantasy b-ball this season, can someone set up a fantasy NBA vs players lockout league?

Taking Kessler if I get the first pick.

After such a fantastic season last season with th league starting to grow, they could not get together and work out a deal. That is just wrong and I blame some of the owners who were playing hardball just for the sake of it.

owners outmaneuvered the players badly because "50-50"* sounds really good to your average layman who doesn't actually think about the situation

*actually doesn't include large portions of revenue like stadium income and provisions like the ability of owners to send players down to the d-league without restriction that make the deal basically a farce

Anybody else get the urge to punch David Stern every time they see his smug smirking face?

The owners are playing hardball because they can't afford to keep running things the same way.
The players are so ridiculously out of touch of reality. "They can't afford to work under the owners offer." Seriously? You are guaranteed millions of dollars for signing a contract! You don't even have to play well. Don't tell us that you can't work under those conditions!
Now the players will make nothing and will have legal fees to pay. Then they will end up accepting a deal which is worse then the one they rejected!

Nope. Stern is merely doing what he is ordered to do by his employers (i.e. the owners). And he is doing that job much better than Billy Hunter, hence the owner's
crushing victory in the spin war.
