Need some help with theme design.

We're starting up a Mafia themed project and we would like some typical 50's songs playing in the background. Problem is, none of us has any idea about the bands and songs from that era.

I'm not talking about the Godfather theme or anything like that. More like what you hear in the background when you play Mafia (the game) for instance.

Artwork is a breeze since there are so many typical Mafia imageries. Floppy hats, suits, tommyguns, 50's cars, gogo-dancers, all of that.

If you have any suggestions where we should look, I'd appreciate it.

I'd suggest checking out "three-six mafia" on youtube. They were a 50s era group that kinda spoofed the whole mafia thing but in a distinctly 50s way.

Ahh so more like Mobster stuff? Okay in that case I'd definitely recommend Mobb Deep. Great 50s era group, something I really think would fit your needs.

ok, not '50s per se but Duke ellington. (miles davis: kind of blueis a must-have BTW, charlie's parkers warm summernight) Frank sinatra, Toots thielemans, crooners, choppin' pete,.., will post more when i get some more ideas, also, must it be '50s specifically? I can think of this jazz musician who was kidnapped by a mafia boss to play for him, but I forgot his name, but it took place in the '30s

I'd include louis armstrongs version of Mac the knife, it's a classic. (btw, why did i left my jazz collection CD box at home )

oh and ziggy, go to the website of klara: www.klara.be, seach for jazz with marc van der hooft, he often has themehours, tonight is another broadcast at 11 pm. search a bit and browse, I remember a recent hour that sounded very maffia-esque, the host will give you all the info you need on the songs, (and h has a great deep voice)

That was fast. I think I will be a while processing all this music to see if we can extract some useful loops out of it, but I am optimistic about it. Don't go out of your way to find more. You've been a great help already.

havent played mafia for a long time (and the guy who has my cd is currently flying airplanes god-knows-where) but if i remember correctly it was set in the thirties and the music was mostly swing?
