Need testers for new editor

I have some free time coming up, thought I would rebuild (and maybe actually finish) one of my old mods I started and never finished. I've downloaded this, and at first glances it seems pretty slick. Pretty sure I will use it to build the mod.

Thanks Steph!

Hey Steph, thanks for looking at this and for all your work here. I'll warn you, this biq is from an incomplete scenario (although I'm pretty much done with the RACE section at this point) so if you have any questions about what I've done please ask.

The "king unit" index for Northumbria is 82, but you have only 23 units.

Try to remove the king units for each civ and try again.

Apparently I forgot to update that when you delete or move a unit, I'll correct that in next upgrade

Thanks Steph, I would never have noticed that since I wasn't using them and in your editor the box was blank while in the normal editor it actually said "none".

Just a note for anyone else who encounters this problem: I had to select all the civs at once and change all of their kings to "none" at the same time, or else the change didn't seem to work and I'd get the error message even for civs I'd already fixed.

Thanks again

Sorry for the double post, but I've just had an idea for the editor. On the Units page, you have options for "All" and "None" when selecting which civs a unit is available to. Would it be possible to add options such as "Culture Group" or "Flavor" to the selections? This could also work on the Techs page.

Example: I want Longboat and Berserker to be available to all my Scandinavian civs, and I have all these civs flavored as "Vikings"; would it be possible to right-click on the list of civs and select "Vikings" from that list?

Interesting idea, I could add that.

It couldn't, in the tech page it is just for info, you cannot change it. BTW, I've added a checkbox to disable it, as I noticed for large mod with many techs, it can slow down the display when you select a "modern" tech.
So by default the list of civ for which a tech is available is not used, so if you select one just to change a flag or the cost, it's fast.
And if you want, you can activate the list of civ, knowingf it will be slower.

Steph, since I am a neophyte at Windows, I am assuming that your editor will run under Windows XP, service pack 2? And what Microsoft Framework is required? I would like to try it on my Windows game editing box.

Yes, Windows XP. You need the framework for Visual Studio 2005, so it should Framework 2.0

I may have to change in the future, as Microsoft has discontinued 2005 to force developpers to move to 2008 :(.

Thanks for the response.

Microsoft does have a tendency to do that. It helps their profit margin, while driving every one nuts.

Actually, I'm using the express edition, which is free.

I'm not sure it helps a lot with their profit.

However, there is a neat feature in 2005, dynamic help.

Basically, when you click on a calss of function, you can go directly to the help for it.

IT's very useful.

But they disable in in version 2008, express edition

I spent about an hour looking through the Microsoft sight trying to find the download. I found lots of examples about how to use it, a fair number of patches for it, and lots of mentions of Visual Studio 2008, but I could not find anywhere to download Visual Studio 2005. Could you point me to the correct website?

Steph, I noticed that when adding new techs in your editor it tells me that there are missing entries in my pediaicons file (specifically, the small tech icons), but I checked and they are in there. When I play the scenario I can also see them on the tech tree. I think this is because I have them listed in the pediaicons file with large tech icons first, then small ones, which is the opposite of the standard way they are listed. Should this matter and will it affect anything if they are listed in this order?

If it doesn't matter then do you have any idea what might cause your editor to not see the entries?

It should work, you don't need to have them in a specific order, as both have their own entry, contrary to units.

I have to correct the pediacons part of my editor, I based it on the example of my own mod, where my pediacions files are not organized exactly the same way, and sometimes it detects error that should not be there.

MapTools.jpg

Expand or crop a map in any direction, even with preplaced units and cities (map still needs manual edited to put correct terrain if you expand).

Delete every city, resource, units, roads, etc. from an existing map.

Note: Although I tested it, there is some exotic programming in the flags for tiles, and I'm not sure I found everything. Tell me if you find something weird.
