Flemmingia
NEOorangeflag.JPG

It was late June before anyone in Flemmingia began to consider long term plans, for the last month they had been try to survive on what they could, deer and firewood from the forest, fish from the sea and wter from a near by stream. The most pressing issue for Flemmingia was its long term food supply, everyone knew that they were killing deer fasterthan they could reproduce and this meant the hunter had to venture further into the unknown woods.

As a result Prince Francis orderd the construction of eight great estates build around the city, six to grow crops for the new city and the other two to house the livestock. Each of the crop estaes were to given a equal share of the seeds that the ship brought, and the livestock farm would each be given half the livestock.

Crops (1 - 6):
Cost : 180 Gold (estimate)
Jobs : 250 Workers (170 are seasonal)
Crops : Bean, Corn, Potatos and Wheat

Livestock (7 & 8):
Cost : 160 Gold (estimate)
Jobs : 90 Workers
Estate 7 Animals : 100 Chickens, 3 Bulls and 15 Cows
Estate 8 Animals : 12 Bulls, 60 Cows

Total cost for all 8 estates comes to an estimated 1400 Gold and 1680 Jobs.

The second issue brough to Francis by his advisor is the issue of security, nobody knows what waits beyond. The obvious response for this action is to form a militia force to defend the new city from the unknown. It was suggest that a force of 300 men should sufice, the force would also be able look after the few horses that were available. So the order to build a small fort containing stables and barracks was given.

Fort Amsterdam:
Troops : 270 Infantry (170 Spears (Wooden), 100 Crossbowmen), 30 Horsemen (Wooden Spears)
Auxillary : 30 Stable Staff, 10 Weaponsmiths, 20 Other
Total : 360 Men
Other : 50 Horses

i am going to change how the stats will work on update (i figured out a better simpler system), but it wont change anything. so send those orders and ill update monday.

if you want to join, Drop me a PM and we can work it out.

just wondering, will having chinese people eat wheat instead of rice change anything?

yeah, i am fixing some of that stuff too. and adding things to the stockpile. it will get better on update

Rules change:
Agricultural Production, Here is everything that feeds your population. Your total agricultural production must be at least the same as your populations. Or it will starve. If you produce more than you need to feed your population, it will be added to your stockpile.

so lets look at some stats:

AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION: Total 5,100
Farming: none
Fishing: Tuna (+100)
Ranching: none
Hunting: Deer (+5000)

this means that right now you are producing enough to feed 5,100 persons. ofcourse your population is of 75,000, so you need to concentrate on building stuff to feed them.

(stats edited to fit this. also some other things added. 150 steel crossbows. (or 100 steel swords if you are Japanese)

OOC: i know the picture is huge

The New Emperor of all under heaven looked at his domain. According to rumors, the Zhengde Emperor had perished with China as a sign of Heaven’s displeasure. Perhaps that was it, China had isolated itself from the world and thus had gained the displeasure of Heaven. *shakes head* what use was that knowledge now? It would be best to think of the work at hand…

The voyage for him across the Great Ocean was perhaps better then others, for as scion of the Imperial Family he had gained command of a War Junk which had been used before to patrol the coasts against Japanese Pirates. He had ordered all the most capable people into the Junk. Bakers, farmers, scholars, lumberjacks, administrators, soldiers, carpenters and many others, sure, he was looked down by the other Ship Commanders. They said “You won’t live for 3 months on the open sea.” Well, it seemed like they were wrong since Sio was standing on hard ground while most of them was believed to have a watery grave.

The Astronomers had figured out where they were in the world via the use of the stars. According to them, their latitude was roughly the same as Southern China’s and that the climate they should expect to meet would be similar and that rice should grow well here as back in China. And so here they were, stranded in Heaven knows where but with the same latitude as Southern China, which knowing that made some people feel a little bit better. At least the fish tasted better here then in China.

He looked around his capitol city, wood houses, little to no sewers. Disgraceful to anyone of Chinese ancestry! One day, hopefully before he died, Xinbei would become a city worthy for an Emperor. The wood that had been left after the wood from the war junk had been torn apart for small fishing boats, and any wood left was used for the construction of the city. 500 people were employed fishing and another 500 at hunting, the ones with jobs were already complaining that they should get more food then those that were unemployed.

Plans were being made to have 4 large fields each having the 4 different crops planted there. Rice, beans, potato, and corn would each be planted in a section of the field and each year having the crops move to the next field as said by the Head Farmer in Xinbei, this was called crop rotation. Also, the Head Farmer said that Human waste according to the Taoists beliefs being returned to the Earth would allow the Earth to become as young as when the Earth began. (The different color rectangle)

And since some of the better well off classes had demanded meat in addition to crops, he ordered the formation of two ranches each with cows, bulls and chickens. Both would have an equal amount of animals which was 50 Chickens, 7 bulls, and 37 cows. The extra bull would go to the west ranch, while the extra cow would go to the east ranch. (White rectangles)

And since he had a love for fish, he wanted to build more fishing boats so he ordered that men will be sent to the Great Forests to cut down trees and lumber for construction as fishing boats. However, when a large part of a section of a forest, say 80% were cut down, the rest were to be spared and left to grow. (The lumberjack bases are the black squares)

And so that people would feel same from any predator or enemy, he ordered that 100 men would learn how to ride a horse as well as shoot a crossbow at the same time and they would become New China’s defensive army. That left 50 Crossbows so he decided to get another 50 people to become infantry armed with crossbows and was ordered to patrol the city of Xinbei. And because he didn’t know what to do with the crossbow horsemen, he ordered them to scout in every direction and draw maps of what they see.

Then of course he didn’t like living in a wooden house so he ordered the construction of two clay pits to gather clay and have them dried to use as shingles on rooftops. (clay pits are rectangular with round edges) Then after working so hard mentally, he went out fishing.

By Decree of King Reynald the following encampments are to be built:

20 Woodcutters residence's and 5 Sawmills to the east, 2.5 Leagues in from the Coast.
20 Woodcutters residence's and 5 Sawmills to the West, 2.5 Leagues in from the Coast.

Each Residence is to House 20 Woodcutters. Which Will form one team to work together in the felling and transportation of the Wooden Logs. Logs will be transported to the Sawmill, where they will be processed and turned into the appropriate building materitals. Offcuttings etc will be kept and used for firewood. (and at a later point, used in the constrution of items like bows etc)
The Sawmill will employ 40 people, this will also cater for the transportation of logs to the City to be used in the construction of Buildings.

For the purposes of Transporation 5 Horses will be given to both camps to pull carts and so on. (Bulls will also be used).

For the Purposes of this, the sum of 500 gold is to be awarded for the completion of aforementioned decree.

OOC: Using Stalins estimate of 200 golds for 20 farms. thus 50 buildings -> 500 gold. (plus some GOOD infrastructure)

Total 'costs': 500 Gold, 10 Horses, 1200 Men.

By Decree of King Reynald The following centres of Food are to be built.

100 'Farms' are to be built, And an area for chickens is to be created.

10 farms are to be used for Wheat
10 farms are to be used for Potatoes
10 farms are to be used for Beans
10 farms are to be used for Corn
10 farms are to be left fallow, and thus will hold the Cows/Bulls and Horses
(the cows and horses DO eat a lot)

Crops Will rotate, every year 20 farms being left fallow with the Cows and Horses occupying it. (OOC: and effectivly fertilising it ;))

For the purposes of aforementioned decree, the sum of 1000 Gold will be payed out.

OOC: Again Stalins calculations of 10 gold per 'building' :)

Total 'costs': 1010 gold, 4000 employed in farm work (80 farms), 200 employed in ranch work, 10 Employed for Chicken work.

OOC: erm again further using stalins example, 50 men to a farm. This will probably swell to about 200 when crops will have to be collected, bringing the total employ of the 80 farms to 16,000)

N.B My farms seem to differ from the others

An Appendix concerning the livestock of the 20 Ranches.

The Bulls and Cows are to be kept in a ratio of 3 to 5. More bulls than this is not required to sustain the population of the cows. (reproductivly). Thus any extra bulls will be killed, their meat taken for food, and theur hides tanned and used to produce, cloths etc. Half the Bulls kept alive are to be used for reproductive purposes the other half will be used for Transporting materials. (helping those horses)

(This is because cows and Bulls are born in a ratio of 50%:50%, since I am in control, I don't need as many bulls to impregnate the cows :))

Cows ARE NOT to be killed, this is so the herd will increase in size. Cows still produce milk, old cows that cannot rear young however are a drain on resources and thus for these purposes will be killed and used in the same manner as the Bulls.

Horses.
There are currently 50 Horses these are spread out between the indutries, 10 transporting wood, 10 in the Military wing. The remaining horses are to work on the farms, when work is down they return to the fields where they mate. The military have the best horses, rather the more aggressive and they breed theirs seperatly for special traits. (aggresivenes etc). The 10 horses transporting wood, Go to one of the fields to rest and reproduce, effectivly bringing the total population of horses on the Farms up to 40.

Old Horses that cannot rear young, work on the fields etc. Are to be killed. Their meat used for food. (I hope ye all realise that people DO eat horses ;) )

Chickens
Chickens are to reared for their eggs. Again a large number of Cockerals are not required. Refrence Bulls, Paragraph 1-2.

Similar rules for chickens are to be followed for Bulls and Horses. Refrence Paragraphs 3, 5.

This concludes the Appendix.

I can only speak for myself and the other Chinese I know who had frequently offered her opinion on that issue (my mom).

We'd be grumpy... for at least a generation.

By Decree of King Reynald the following Markets/Shops/Misselaneous production points are to be built.

20 Markets are to be built, by nature these do not employ people, but attract buisness and are centre of activity.

30 Workshops producing those small nesecary items in life.(such as Bows for the hunter :mischief:, clothes etc). These will employ 30 people each.

30 Shops will be built as well, (at least one for each workshop ;) ). These will employ a total of 90 people (3 each).

A sum of 500 gold will be spent for the construction of these buildings.
OOC: I felt that the shops and markets did not require as much of an investment each as say a farm.

Total Cost: 500 Gold, 990 men.

Ok I think thats me done for a bit. :)

One particular concern for me is the amount of unemployed population I have.

But I was wondering If I was correct in thinking this:

Total Population: 75, 000
50% Male: 37, 500
25% Children: 9, 375
Total Working age Males: 28, 125

Working Males
(permanent) plus 6000 Seasonal jobs.
Total : 11 120

Thus only 40% of my population is working.

Unless I just make the jobs bigger?

EDIT: I DECIDED TO JUST INCREASE THE AMOUNT OF MEN ON EACH JOB. (that does not require animals)

Anyway.

Total amounts

All stockpiles accounted for and in use
Total Gold Cost: 2,860
Total Employed: 23, 350
