Reynald bit his lip. It was becoming a habit. He sifted through his memories.
He still remembered leaving his country like it was yesterday, and the initial landing in New Portugal. He toyed with the idea of renaming the country, they were all that was left of Portugal and the name just brought...memories, to the fore.....
A cough by one of his advisors brought him to problems at hand.
Of Immediate concern was the food output. The Infrastrucutre itself was marvellous, very efficient. He decided he would have to expand it. The good news was that last years expansion had gained them more grassland, rather than damn trees.
He decided he would begin a new settlement. The population was too concentrated and the land was stretching out. The best way to get most working time from people was to build a new settlements. He asked his advisors to draw up the best economic way to build a settlment for 5000 people. They would be another 10,000 employed in the farming industry, problem solved. But what to do with the old buildings in the City....convert them into workshops, which brought him to the other problem, lack of textiles.
Killing two birds with one stone....
Ye gods that bird, he knew those scouts would find something, but this?!? He picked one of the feathers up and inspected it. Enough light for a room, it did tend to attract moths. Probably how the birds hunted. He decided to use them to light the fort for the moment. He might find another use for them later.
The advisor got back to him. New settlments would cost roughly 400 Gold and 250 lumber each to house 5000 people. The farms themselves required very little in the way to expand them, the intial capital input had been a lot. All that was needed now was to expand them. Say another 300 Gold. Always cheaper to get the infrastructure right than rework everything.
He decided to spend another 100 Gold on infrastructure, efficiency was needed. He would have roads crisscrossing this land.
And another 5000 to hunt deer and other animals, the meat and skins would come in handy. Which brought him to the next point, 10, 000 empty homes. So 5000 would be used for textile production. More than enough. Hopefully make some money out of this. This would cost a further 200 gold, low but then the buildings were already in place. He still had another 5000 Empty buildings, they would come in usefull later.
Another 5000 would be used to expand the Woodcutters. Costing a final 300 Gold.
And finally, he would send his horsement to scout out the grasslands....and expansion in that direction was needed...
Total Gold Cost: 1300
Total men Employed: 25, 000
Other Costs: 500 Lumber
Other: Two New Settlements Baja, Bara. New Roads. 5000 Empty Houses
Workshops: 5000 Textile Workshops, another LOAD of logging stuff.
Agriculture: Deer hunting expanded, Fams Expanded.

OOC: I'm willing to say that many of you think that might have been cheap. I might agree, but I feel that if you compare say Totone's total costs and men employed and compare it too most others, you will find that the farms are actually underused. I still end up with more gold than him, but less emplyed persons. If you however disagree, i will edit this and rework it
Basically what I'm saying is most people need to spend more people to their Farms etc, but only Totone has it right, (although he burned for speed). Thus most people need smaller input capital to get a larger output. (put it down to something growing exponentially)
(the farm stuff stands though, stalins update says i could dump more on it.
