NES World/Regional Maps Requests Thread

FYI, I didn't make those maps. They're from the alternatehistory.com forums. There's a blank map thread that has some gems, if you're willing to hunt through 56 pages...

I'm currently planning to start a fantasy NES based of the Lodoss franchise and thus I'll need a blank map for it.

The map should be completely blank with only rivers, lakes and mountains visible on the land. Basically, the mountains as they are on the first map, and the rivers and lakes as in the second one.

In other words, could someone make a usable blank NES map out of this?

I would say yes, but I'm working on three other maps right now, so you'd have to wait a long time.

I'm likewise working on two maps, and having my hands full. Since I'm not actually working intently on these, I guess I shouldn't take another request quite yet.

dont forget time, devotion, and the force.

and a PC/Mac + $1000 imaging program.

How do you make maps anyways? :p
The easiest way to to take an existing NES map and use "the Gimp" (imaging/painting software) to modify it. Creating a map fresh is a bit more difficult. (or is it a bite more?)

I use Paint Shop Pro III. I don't recommend it to anyone else, unless you're too cheap (Like me) to pay for a program and too lazy to download GIMP.

For myself I use only the basic Microsoft Paint. I have GIMP as well, but I have never used it on my maps, and given the general feedback I get on my maps (most of which are from scratch BTW), I have no need to figure out how to use the bloody thing. I would say that all you need to make a great map is Paint, patience, and some semblance of an understanding of visual appeal.

EDIT: So, North King, can I be expecting a progress report any time soon? :mischief:

Probably not, NK is a busy man. A busy busy man. Busy.

When I get home I will finally have Photoshop again. Then I will create maps in the blink of an eye! Or something like that, anyway. I'll finish the fCNES map, at least.

Well, Mr. Isry, essentially everything's in order except for Russia (which I could use help on), China (which I've not really started yet), Africa (which should take all of thirty seconds), and Americas (which should take five minutes).

Help on Russia would be appreciated.

Where's das when you need him?

Here's a decent map of of Northeast Europe in 1300 (I'm certain there are changes in the 26 year difference, but I knew the location of this one off the top of my head). The makers seem to be in favor of making every nation that had any remote claim to de jure independence independent. Here is the legend.

MSP all the way. I only make non-World maps, with my own standardized style mountains. Some might recall my first NES where I experimented with grey tones for elevation... Anyway, I draw my maps by hand, down to the pixels, and I'm stubbornly proud of it. :p I have GIMP too, but prefer MSP for its simplicity.

O Saraza, how I miss thee! Cross the Straight of Doves, and build the empire that never was!

I'm amazed that people grew so attached in... what? Two updates, maybe three? Perhaps I shall consider reviving it over the summer. PERHAPS! Do not pester me about it.
