WACL Formed, Phoenix Named Headquaters

As a counterbalance to the evergrowing Red presence in the world as a whole, the Republic of Hungary and the United States of America have founded Anti-Communist League. With member nations stretching from the Americas to Oceania, the WACL aims to rival the power of the Third International.
One of the first resolutions proposed was that of a capital. At first San Francisco was put forth by the American delegate, but the Hungarian delegate took into consideration the Japanese who had not yet pledged to any alliance, and offered a more isolated location. Phoenix was decided upon and chosen. Now work begins on constructing what is said to be the most modern a building that can be built, in the heart of this developing city of the desert.

Presidential Election Results In!

The race was never really that close or intense. But the barbs were thrown, and Alfred Emmanuel's once enormous lead of 40% had shrunken to about 10%. Still, Smith was able to hold on and defeat his Republican counterpart, aswell as a Facist enteree who had just recently registered on the national stage and garnered 2% of the vote.
Alfred Emmanuel Smith is considered a conservative Democrat, with a strong dislike of Communist ideals, and believes Democracy is the government best suited to humankind. *more on the political scene after update*

Union of Councilary Socialist Republic

Split from the TIASR
As reported on yesterday's radio broadcast, our great nation is spitting from the TIASR over anger about the actions of France. The Premeir has made the following statement "The actions of France risk dragging the UCSR into another world war. We wish not to get involved and we do not feel that we should meddle in European affairs." Our great leader went on to discuss the Monroe Doctrine and how they will abide by it and hopes other nations will abide by it also. He stresses that any nations outside the Americas that interferes with any affairs of an American nation will be in voliation of the Doctrine.

New Economic Plan
The Premier has unvieled the first step of his economic plan. The first few years will be devoted to building up a strong industrial base within the Mid Atlantic states. The regions, rich in coal and iron, will be transformed into an industrial powerhouse, giving the UCSR the greatest industrial might in the Western Hemisphere. These factories and other industries will provide a job for every working age citzen of the UCSR. The future is bright for the UCSR, sign up at the nearest station for the new job oppertunities. This is only the beginning says Premeir Lee.

Communism is democracy. We are technically 'Social Democrats.' We still elect our leaders and representatives, and have a full range of political parties, although the Socialist party is by far the most popular.

A Tragic Loss:
The Funeral of Marechal Henri-Phillipe Pétain

The days following the assasination of Merchal Pétain were hard on France. A week of national mourning was proclaimed, and all of France wept. Pétain had beat back the Germans, and restored the nation of France. He was a national hero, All of Paris attended the Funeral prossecion. It was Petain's wish, that should he die, his body be wrapped in the Tricolore. The trumpet was played, the eulogy spoken by Doumergue, and the 100 gun salute was fired.

Enscribed on his coffin, read:

"Liberté, Egalitié, et Fraternatié"

Emperor Erik Jedvardsson II

reybg01p.jpg

Emperor Erik Jedvardsson II stood up from his throne and walked towards the crowd that had amassed around his palace. He was to address parliament that day. His prime minister, Johan Monrad, had announced that the country was to remain neutral in the seemingly inevitable clash of Communism versus Democracy. Since the unification of Scandinavia, the SDN had achieved huge economic growth. Every part of the country was growing. Houses and buildings were being built. The army was recruiting more young men to their ranks. The stock market had seen a seven rallies in a row just this week. But outside of Scandinavia, things weren’t so happy. The nation was in-between two great powers; Germany and Russia. They were between two military dictatorships. They were a part of the European continent which was a political and social mess. After World War I, many of the nations had gone into extreme debt. Great Britain wasn’t so great anymore. They had lost their entire empire. France had undergone another revolution, this one Marxist. But through the storm, Scandinavia stood still. They had overcome language and culture barriers to exist as one union, ruled by the parliament and led by the Emperor. The Emperor entered the ‘automobile’ that was to take him and his advisors to the parliament. He sat quietly and looked at his window as he drove through the capital. He had always lived a secluded life, being educated and trained to become ruler since the day he was born. He realized that he was living in momentous times of great change and upheaval. Erik Jedversasson II was to be the man who would lead his people through the storm. Leaders would die, governments would fall, but Scandinavia would remain the same. He walked into parliament as various legislators stared at him. He began, ‘This is my call to arms.’

OOC: When Alfred E. said democracy, he meant in the ways practiced by the USA mainly, which he believes to be the only close approach to true democracy in the world. Im in character ;) which I dont do enough of honestly.

Will be posting story and orders tommorrow. Will catch up on diplomacy at that time as well.

Would it be the Monster Raving Loony Party?

Polar Bears of the world will probably get British citizenship and vote for that just to see how it works. ;) Seriously though, its slightly too early for that. You should wait until the NES goes utterly insane, should be about three turns or so.

I understand you want me to do the elections?

Beginning to post the update.

Uhmmmm... Are the polar bears impervious to heat-based weapons?
Figures they'd join British parliamentarism... =^_^=

Update 1 - Year 1931

Global Events:

World-wide, communist movements are spreading. Serious increases in commparty membership were noticed in Gran Columbia, Spain, Beneluxian Libya and India.

Fearful that France will start WWII and will drag UCSR into it, President Thomas Lee declared that UCSR will remove itself altogether from European affairs. Leaving the International, the UCSR created the APR, an American Communist alliance. However, no other communist nations joined it, and thus UCSR is now without allies.

As he hears more and more reports of the evil of the Blue USA capitalism, something deep inside the DUCA leader’s brain snaps. He can’t take it any more and won’t put up with it one more minute. Frantically he calls his trusted generals to his side, to start an invasion of the Blue USA. The greatest military campaign in Mexican history. The generals are given full control over the campaign. Most of them are mediocre, some are outright pathetic. But one of them compensates all that. Juan Viga is one of the greatest military minds in history of the Americas.

And besides, though the DUCAn troops may not be the best-trained, and though they are somewhat lacking in technology and overall leadership, and even though large parts of their army consist of conscripts and they are unable to sufficiently support all of them, they have three things “for” them: numerical superiority, surprise effect and overwhelming morale (especially amongst the “Hyperpatriot” divisions). And so, the unsuspecting Blue forces on the border are suddenly under attack. The DUCAn forces advance well at first, but bogged down at the Rio Grande when the Blue forces regrouped and inflicted heavy casualties. It was then that Juan Viga and his Hyperpatriots, newly-mechanized, executed a brilliant campaign – crossing the Rio Grande in a sudden and resolute push, and encircling roughly fifteen “Blue” divisions in the “Texan pocket”. DUCAn forces avenge Santa Anna as they cross into Texas.

(-15 USA divisions, -4 USA air wings, -7 DUCA divisions, -13 DUCA conscripts, -2 DUCA UU, -4 DUCA air wings)

In Gran Columbian Ecuador, severe communist uprisings took place but all the protesters were gunned down. “The virus of Communism is spreading through our country, but we will fight and crush it”, declares caudillo Juan Mendoza. He couldn’t be more true about the former part.

Most unexpectedly, Martin Hodder (Liberal) is elected Prime Minister in Britain. Even more surprising is the fact that he is seen as a “compromise candidate”, but then again, Conservative and Labour parties have discredited each other greatly during 20th Century. Liberals didn’t get a chance to do that yet. But that is not as surprising as the fact of rising popularity of fascists, communists and even the OMRLP (claimed by many newspapers to plan a creation of a new government form, “Maniacal Anarchy”).

WWII barely averted – or is it?

(see spotlight)

Nope, it isn’t. However, all is not as well as the French hoped when they begun the invasion of Benelux with all of their army, complete with the brand-new “Petain” tanks and the innovative armored warfare doctrine. The Beneluxians were alarmed by the Petain Affair as much as to build up their military and to try to entrench on the border. An eccentric French capitalist who fled there after the revolution, one Andre Maginot, suggested the construction of an enormous fortified line on the border with France, but the Beneluxian government apparently chose not to listen to him. Not that they had much time until the French DO attack. The French invasion is well-planned, and the trenches are unable to stop the Flanders and the Luxembourg offensives that advance deep into Belgium. However, the Center of the Benelux frontlines holds, despite the troops that had to be sent away to defeat a Dutch nationalist uprising in Arnhem. In this section, the most important factor that assisted Benelux was the Grenadiers – specially-prepared anti-tank infantry that uses special anti-tank rifles and grenades to inflict large casualties to the Petain Tanks. However, De Gaulle’s assignment to the Marechal of Armor and the threat of being cut off caused the Beneluxian forces to abandon the trenches. Approximately one-fourth of the Beneluxian forces there were, though, cut off and surrendered. Brussels is now effectively under siege, and it seems that, unless Benelux finds some good allies, its doomed. Other Beneluxian good news was the temporary air superiority thanks to Air Marshall Nouvelle’s capabilities.

(-7 French divisions, -4 French UUs, -11 French air wings, -11 Beneluxian divisions, -2 Beneluxian UUs, -8 Beneluxian air wings)

Magyarization Project starts out fine, but soon runs into a serious problem – a one of religion, as there is a fairly large amount of Hungarian Protestants who are enraged at the fact that all the Protestant churches are closed and confiscated (-1 Culture). Ofcourse, the complaints are whispered very quietly in dark corners after the most odd disappearance of several Protestant leaders.

Finland declared independence from Russia. This was long in coming due to the WWI era and post-WWI impoverishment (as a result of Russia First policy). After confusing fighting, Russian forces were forced to withdraw from most of Finland. Petsamo is still in Russian hands, as is the besieged Turku (Torku?).

(-7 Finnish divisions, -6 Russian divisions)

Unexpectedly, Germany sold Namibia and German East Africa to Sudafrika and the French West and Equatorial Africa, plus Morocco, to France. While most are glad at the end of the “imperial madness”, a sizeable group has gathered around General Lettow von Vorbeck in protesting the sale of those colonies. “Money cannot buy back our blood” – declared Lettow (-1 Confidence). Back in France, this too isn’t received too well as many politicians, though glad that the “German imperialists are gone from those lands”, are enraged at the fact that the fruits of the labor of the free French people are given to German capitalists. Some as much as say that Doumergue is trying to bring back the era of French imperialism in Africa (-1 Confidence).

The French, in fact, soon find another problem. No troops were yet placed in the new African colonies, there was no time to establish the militias. Thus, there is no way that French can fight that native rebellion in the middle of the colony, nor can they do anything against that whole Liberian invasion with the assistance of native population in the southwest. It is, however, suspected that those rebellions were incited by an outside power...

The Chinese disband their conscript troops. It may not improve economy, as was hoped, but DOES increase confidence in Shai Pai Ming’s regime (+1 Confidence), as does the whole thing with distributing the landowner lands amongst the peasants. The Grand Chinese Republic is doing quite, quite well.

Somewhere, somebody is moving his troops into positions and preparing for something... While some other people also do some secret things and gloat as their plans are being carried out... Also, a secret island somewhere was secretly pacified by someone... It is as if the polar bears are at work. ;)

Random Events:

Doumergue's brilliant oratory increases the French people's confidence in their leader (+1 Confidence).

Togliatti has a similar effect in Italy, only there it is added to the already built-up confidence making him one of the most popular Communist leaders (+1 Confidence).

Csaszar rallied the Hungarian people behind him, greatly increasing the cultural unity (+1 Culture).

Salazar’s “New Portuguese Empire” proclamation has trully unified the Portuguese people (+1 Culture)!

UCSR’s sudden announcement of the readoptation of the Monroe Doctrine was ill-received outside of the country, but back in it it quickly became popular (+1 Culture).

As work on the Autobahn begun in Germany, several significant capitalists invest into it as a show of patriotic feeling (+1 speed).

The largest hajj of the 20th century took place (+1 Economy).

The new British government gets an increase of people’s loyalty (+1 Confidence).

The Finnish rebels get more volunteers (+5 divisons).

Empress Zauditu of Abyssinia died and was buried in a great procession. This tragedy increased the unity of the Ethiopian people (+1 Culture).

Emperor Erik Jedvardssen II works hard to make Scandinavia a power that can outlast all others. To do that, he inspires cultural unity (+1 Culture).

Corruption damages Brazilian economy (-1 Economy).

Persians start mass rioting in the streets of major Persian cities, incited by Muslim fundamentalists.

Spotlight:

The Petain Affair.

"We all are distraught at the news of the Marechal’s death."
- Gaston Doumergue. Year 1931.

Amidst a Revolution Day parade in Paris, a lone gunner fired a single shot at the procession, killing Marshall Petain, one of the most popular French war heroes. It was an outrage. Amidst the shouts of “Conservatives! Reactionaries!”, the gunner was killed by the mob. France went into mourning.

And soon after, suddenly, the French government announced that the gunner was a Belgian assassin from Benelux and declared that the Benelux government had French, German and even Dutch Beneluxian officials on the hitlist. The French also sent a provocative ultimatum to Benelux, the most outrageous terms being the disbandment of Benelux and the cession of all colonies. The Beneluxian public was enraged by this ultimatum, and soon, even more so then the governments, the people from both sides demanded blood.

But other European powers did not want World War Two. Germany and Hungary were quick to state that Benelux was under their protection, and “Blue” USA supported that soon after. Reluctantly, very reluctantly, the French government backed down. World War Two was averted.

Perhaps.

However, just as it seemed to some that the crisis is averted, France went on and declared war on Benelux anyway. Beneluxian War has begun, and with it, perhaps World War Two as well.

NPC Diplo:

From: Benelux
To: France

Do not expect us to surrender.

From: Benelux
To: The World

We ask you to condemn the outrageous French invasion and to declare war on the communist organization currently in charge of French territory. Why? Because this no doubt is just the first move of the “Red Napoleon”. Whom will he strike next after the conquest of Benelux? Germany? Spain? Maybe... Italy? Or perhaps Britain?

United we stand, divided we fall.

From: Liberia
To: France

We demand that you cede to us the southwestern coast of “French” West Africa. That land is ours by right and the people there chose us as their rightful rulers.

From: TIR
To: Saudi Caliphate

We decided to join you next turn. Will you accept us?

Allah Akbar.

OOC:

Note that every turn, two random PC or NPC nations will get bad events. This is to show that bad accidents happen and to add some flavor. In this case, for example, what EXACTLY Sheep2 does with the Persian fundamentalists might fundamentally (pun intended) change the course of the game. Or maybe it won't.

I wonder how long do we have until a Black Army appears...

Also, excuse me if I somewhat didn’t make this clear, but its five divisions per economy point, not ten. Too lazy to check if its my fault or not.

Insane, remind me to give you the “Most Ambitious Project” award. 34-Year Plan...

Those of you scared of the last lines in the Global Events, don’t worry, the polar bears won’t attack you yet. These are simply hints that will probably be understood by the required people.

In the midst of a polar night, a bright portal appeared amidst the snow.

Specially-trained polar bear units secured the perimeter.

Stage One of Operation: Thunderbear has started.

Don't give up anything from Africa. We hope that in some time soon the african lands would be free under a communist rule as they should be...
