NES2 VI - Last Semblance of Order.

das, I was about to send orders and I noticed that my stats said that my project was incomplete. I clearly remember completing it last turn, and I have the old orders to prove it if you don't believe me.

So I'll assume that the project'c completed for sending orders, even though it's shown as having one turn left.

Copenhagen Main Square

"This just won't do!" shouted a man standing on some wooden boxes. "Look around you! See what is happening! France is swallowing up even more lands and have created a new large nation to our south. Russia has cut off all links with the French and the Germans. It is coming to war, I tell you. WAR!"
The crowd standing in front of him, listening started mumbling amongst themselves. After a few minutes a man shouted back to the speaker, "But why should we concern ourselves with that. The PM has made a statement saying we'll remain neutral in case of war between France and Russia".
The speaker looked at him with scorn. "Do you really believe that? Russia needs to control Denmark to get their fleet out from the Baltic and hit France and France needs us to prevent this. We'll become a battlefield, neutral or not!"
This caused more murmuring. "You're wrong", shouted an old man, "why should they fight here if we declare ourselves neutral?".
"Because, old friend, we are strategically important. And look at the big picture. France has agreements with Finland. What is to stop Russia from reaching an agreement with Sweden? Not only would that keep the Finns in check, but it might also make Sweden consider attacking us again! Russia wouldn't mind. It would give them a base close to France. No, we're in a tight spot here."
"But, what can we do?" wailed an old woman.
"We need protection. We must be safe!", yelled a young man. "The PM must do something to protect us. He cares about us. He's raised our living standards, he's educating our young, he gave us victory over Sweden. He will protect us!"
The man on the boxes nodded. "But how can we be protected?" he yelled. "We are but a small country."
"Sweden!", screamed a young woman. "It's all their fault. If we controlled Sweden, then they couldn't attack us!"
Mutters of agreement and, a few, of shock went through the crowd.
"Union!" yelled a man. "Restore the Union under our leadership! Then we'll be safe!"
"But", said the man on the boxes, "Sweden doesn't want this."
"Then we must force them. It's for the good of our children and all Scandinavians!"
"Union, Union, Union!", chanted the mob.
The man on the boxes looked out on the crowd, a curious smile on his face. "Very well", he said. "Let us march to Christiansborg and present our demands to Parliament! Let us make them listen to us!"
Continuing the chants of "UNION" the crowd started moving toward Parliament pulling ever more people along with them.

Meanwhile, at Parliament.
"Prime Minister. The mob is reported to be coming here now. We have increased the number of guards to keep them out. The leaders of the other parties request your presence in the Hall of Oratory to figure out what to do."
"Thank you Mr. Gyldenlove", said the PM. "Please inform them that I am on my way and tell them to not fear. We are here to serve the people and please do remind that this is not the first such demonstration. They've been happening in all the main cities. I will be there in a few minutes."
"Yes, Mr. Lentz."
As his aide left PM Lentz went over to the window and looked out for a minute. Smiling he muttered quietly to himself, "Ah, yes. Everything is proceeding as I've foreseen..."

They're not allied according to this:

Somewhere in Vienna~
It was dark and quite dusty, the streets of unmantained houses and abandoned homes. There were people in the area, altough mostly regarding immoral bussinesses. Prostitutes and Gambling brought city insiders to this place for some earthly pleasures. But also served as a brewing ground for enemies of the state. These places were often under surveillance by the Sicherheit Ministry. They didnt crack down on petty things like prostitution or illegal gambling, since it was a job for the police. Their job was to take down real enemies of the state that didnt have money on their mind, but ideals. Today enough hints pointed to one of the dilapilated houses in that neighborhood. Today a raid was to take place and it was against possible insurgents. The nation was far from eliminating those communalists, but their numbers grew less and less as the national economy thrived and the ministry encouraged otherwise.
The ministry agents were armed with handguns, they took a prepared piece of cloth and set it on fire. They threw the thing inside the house and waited for the fire to spread. Ofcourse the fire was not being set on the suspect house, but on the abandoned one next to it. Fire could destroy evidence, and that would be a mistake.
The suspects came out of the house fast, they looked at the house and tried to move important things. The Ministry agents seemed to be part of the local water brigade that was trying to put the house fire out.
Sudenly, when they felt the time was right, they took their guns from their hidden place and started shooting. In a few minutes four communalists were dead. A dozen agents stormed into the house with rifles and fixed bayonetes. They raid was succesful, the unsuspecting terrorists were aprehended, five in total. Inside the house bombs were being made, and weapons being gathered. IN there were also several letters pointing out other possible communalist strongholds. It had been a job well done.
The captured communalists were to be interrogated and if necessary turtured. But it matter less, only those that served well and gave plenty of truthfull information was likely to live for the rest of his life in jail, or if extremely lucky as a double counter insurgency agent. Everyone else was executed, not by the honorfull firing squad, but by hanging w/ piano wire. IT was harsh, but von Dunkelheit did not wanted these troublemakers to get on his way.

The Beginning

In 1750 AD Portugal was under attack. France, an former ally, had gathered an coalition of opportunists to invade Portugal, as a final step to consolidate its position as the ruler of the seven oceans, and to aquire the large colonial holdings of Portugal. For years the vile French had distrubted the Portugese just rule over its loyal holdings, by supporting maniacal and dangerous rebell leaders with arms and money. This went so far that Julien-Francois, the bloodthirsty King of France, organized a assasination attempts on the Portugese heir of the throne, Prince Pedro the third and Francisco de Sousa, the greatest hero of Portugal.

As the Portugese secret service found evidience of a French involvement in many of the recent acts of sabotage and incendiary, Portugal decided to confrontate France with these. The accused ones denyed any involvement and masked their true intentions by acting as friend, evoking the past positive relationsship between the two nations.

However at the same time, the French were already gathering a large force, preparing the invasion of Portugal proper.

This happening was one of the triggers of the Great War.

The initial invasion hit Portugal hard. The mainland fell under the masses of French soldiers, but the heroic defence and the ultimate sacrifice of the aging King allowed many to flee to Brazil, where Prince Pedro had already begun to organize the defence against the vile aggressor.

Meanwhile all over the world, the Portugese gathered and prepared to defend their nation until the last drop of blood had hit the ground.

Portugal was living out its last days as a great power... or was it?

The introduction of : De Grande Guerra - Capítulo II - Começo

To Save a Nation

The last weeks had been very tumultous in Rio de Janerio. The entire city was full of refugees from Portugal. Although the bulk of the government had already arrived about a month ago, new ships arrived allmost daily. Just the day before, Princess Isabella who had become seperated during the flight of the royal family, had suddenly arrived on board of a merchant ship.. Gruesome stories had circulated for some time, and the people had feared the worst.

All these messages barely reached Prince Pedro III of Cordoba. Of course, his advisors were supplying him with every information he needed, but currently the Prince had more dire matters to attend. He had to save Portugal. His father had paid a big price and the Prince feared the worst, if Julien-Francois quest succeded...

A plan was needed.. A plan to save the nation!

* * * * *

But not only bad news reached Prince Pedro.. One letter in particular made him allmost cheerful. How exactly this message from the other side of the world had reached him, was a mystery, but he had assured that this was not a fraud.

Senior Francisco de Sousa, greatest hero of Portugal, loyal to the throne and a man of greatest abilitys, had somehow managed to send a message regarding the situation in Singapore and the colonies in general.

The great conquerer gave a clear picture of the situation in Singapore. The following year would be very hard, and many battles would have to be fought. However with a bit of luck everything was possible. However what was most important: de Sousa would handle it. He didn't need anything, Pedro could concentrate on the situation in Brazil.
De Sousa also claimed that Africa wouldn't need anything, either. There were many great explorers and leaders in this area, who would most likely have already begun to assemble a defensive force.

Only few could beat them on in the "unexplored lands of africa". Because these lands were only unexplored for the enemy. The Portugese know very well where they are fighting. They know the people, they know the terrain.. Only a most determined enemy would have any chance to truely defeat them.

These words, by such a man as de Sousa greatly helped the prince. Atleast he knew that the colonies would do anything to push back the invaders. Meanwhile he could give his best to defend the nation against the invasion.

They said that Portugal was living out its last days as a great power... Even if this would be true.. in the end it would rise again!

Well, even if you put up enough forces in some places, you still wouldn't have enough in others.

So the 'last days' bit is true enough.

The deadline hath passed.

The only thing that is true is that Germany will beat Brazil in the World cup!
