NES2 VI - Last Semblance of Order.

This is rather interesting...if Ottomans didn't send orders, they did not order to withdraw from the Orthodox lands, and if they did not order to withdraw from those lands I suppose I am at war with them...

And that means you are at war with the Augsburg league and Russia aswell.

It would look something like this:

France, Russia, Augsburg League, Denmark, England vs. Spain, Krakow, Papal States, Venice, Ottoman Empire, and Sweden.

Portugal would join either of the sides or remain neutral.

Whether the transactions were not officialized this turn or not should not matter, they will be officialized and without bloodshed. Isnt this what the Tsar wants? Or is it truly your goal just to use your alliance to try dominate Europe at the cost of millions of lives...we will find out soon enough I suppose. Russia's "tough" diplomacy does not scare us, war on the Ottomans is war on Spain, therefore war on the Holy League.

With the impending collapse of the Ottoman Empire at hand, we wish to offer a NAP to our comrades in the East. Let us be united in religion and brotherhood, Allah willing, of course.
Though we are not entirely sure who you are, leadership wise, we hope that we can end this turkish enslavement over Islam. The moment you come to exist and show a following of the children of Islam, we will recognize you and sign a NAP.

OOC: Hope your not rebelling along the Tigris or Euphrates rivers :mischief:

well i got my war avatar out again, just in case :p

IF such war does happen, Krakow does not have any sort of treaty that would force it to declare war. It also applies that it might remain neutral for the lenght of the conflict

And you know whose stuck right between the borders, in the line of all that cannon-fire.

The basques ;)
But many countries would pay well to strike at there enemies, and being in the middle of the conflict we stand to get a hefty payday, and maybe even a nation

@ Swissempire - nah whoever won would use you then eat up your lands. ;)

Here is part one of the interview with the Doge (to get the story bonus before the update ;))

March 16th 1742 Front Page of I Tempi di La Serenissima

“I am the Enlightenment!” An interview with Doge Adriano Durante

By Luigi Barzini

It is rare honour that a simple man such as myself is admitted to the Palazzo Ducale, rarer still that they be granted an Interview with the Doge himself. But that is the nature of the times, the waters of the republic are in upheaval, a new energy has gripped the city – men are scurrying everywhere so fast that the city resembles more a beehive that the quiet and restful place it once was. And here I, Luigi Barzini, am about to meet the queen bee – the man whose recent election to the office of Doge has caused all this manic change; Doge Adriano Durante himself!
I was quickly ushered through the first floor of the Palazzo, past the lawyer’s offices and the naval headquarters, and up into the lavish council chambers and the apartments of the doge himself. I walked past the great frescos of naval battles, Tintoretto's vast Paradise – reputably the largest single work on canvas in the world! All symbols of Venice’s glorious past, as I, perhaps with a hint of melodrama, go to meet its future.
I soon arrived at the small reading room where the Doge would conduct the interview, his attendant officials present as always. The Doge is a tall man, hard and tanned from his years at sea, but his bearing is impeccable, and his manners most astute, and I found an intense appeal in the path he laid out for Venice as we spoke, I believe the coming decade will be Venice’s finest for a century. But now to the interview;

LB: Firstly, Your Grace, I Tempi di La Serenissima would like to thank you for agreeing to this interview, it’s a great honour for both myself and the newspaper.

DAD: Thanks, the honor is mine.

LB: Thank you. Now, you were voted in as Doge some month and a half ago, how have you found the first fifty days as the head of the republic? I understand this was something of an unexpected honour for you.

DAD: Yes, it was. But quite frankly, I believe it was my destiny. You see, since I come from a family with a rich Venetian history. We've been here since the city has been here. In fact, one of my grand-uncles' bodies was recently discovered floating in a river. My rise to power, though as accidental and coincidental it is, was not without reason. I am the culmination of my family's pride, hard work, and upbringing. I have come to this post to create a new future for Venice, and one day, for Europe.

LB: I’m sorry to hear about your families loss, now you have made your main policy speech to the Council of Nobles two days ago, but they are remaining tight-lipped on the whole matter, despite the advances of us journalists. You will be making a speech to the people later today – care to drop us any hints or personal perspectives on your proposals?

DAD: Our military is on the move. That is really all I can say at this point, for national security reasons. (The Doge adopted a slightly pensive smile, not worried, but casting his mind to some far distant matter)

LB: Well we of course realize you have the republics interest at heart. I understand you have been meeting with the great political thinker and philosopher Johannes Diaconus, rumour has it that you plan to restructure the apparatus of government, both expanding the body of the electorate, and reducing some of the restrictions of your office for a greater flexibility of response in the ever changing modern world. I must say; if my family had a vote; it would have been for you!

DAD: My, my, it seems like you know my plans better than I do. Yes, I myself and my advisors are working on a plan to expand make our republic greater. The Assembly has so far agreed to give me more rights, rights I need to make our city-state whole again. You see, before my rise to power, Venice was in a Dark Age of sorts.

LB: A Dark Age your Grace?

DAD: Indeed, A Dark age; And I am the Enlightenment, I am the Renaissance. Dare I say, I am the revolution…(the Doge became quite emphatic about these words)

LB: A bold claim, but I hope a portentous one! Now our paper circulates in the other towns of the republic, though naturally they do not directly have a say in the Venetian body politic, for now anyway, they are of course important indirectly, Do you have any words particularly for them?

DAD: Yes: your time is coming. My rise to power is the people's rise to power, it is fate, and it is destiny! (The Doge adopted a broad and jovial grin as he said this)

LB: Moving on to more practical matters, many have noted the vast works occurring at the Arsenal, indeed the entire Castello district is abuzz with workers. The previous doge had judged our current naval forces sufficient – I take it you are not of a similar mind?

DAD: No, not at all. I served the Venetian Navy for twenty-five years. My family served the navy for generations. I know that our navy is in bad condition, and I am working to fix it. Our army, our army must grow. We live in a time of rising empires and new threats, and we cannot afford to be overtaken by a larger country. We are working on training our military, and making it one of the best in Europe.
