NES2 VI: You have two cows. Actually, you only have one cow, and it's Portugal. A lion is chasing it, and everyone places bets on how long the cow's going to live. Then they all start bargaining on the price of the beef.

Dear friends,

Despite the irrational and emotional cries of Pedro III, who no doubt is overcome with grief over the unfortunate death of his father, our course in Iberia is plain to all who might have eyes with which to see. Portugal has, in years past, become increasingly belligerent toward French affairs, and has, with ever-increasing glee and lack of disdain, grown more and more deluded with ambition, believing it exists in some universe of its own where it might dominate the whole southern half of the globe without another care in the world. It was repeatedly failed, nay, refused to recognize the inherent danger of the global situation which exists today. In so doing, it has become a danger in and of itself. Spain has likewise, ever since the fall of its empire, become a threat. Its dreams of revanche, evidenced by the clamoring of its people for war in past years, would inevitably have been acted upon the moment it perceived France as being occupied elsewhere.

The greed and lack of common sense demonstrated by these nations represented a clear and present danger to the national security of France, and to the integrity of the European continent as a whole. The willingness of both the Holy League of Italy and the Kingdom of Britain to contribute forces to the French cause, as well as the utter lack of outcry from any other European state, only further proves this point. Everyone knows a job required doing, and France did it.

The cries of foul play in our affairs and the claims that we seek absolute global domination are likewise merely tales with which to frighten small children. France has, on innumerable occasions, sponsored and supported the development of strong nations. One has but merely to look at the Greater German Republic, the Kingdom of Britain, the Papal States, the Ottoman Empire, the Imperial Republic of China, or the Japanese Empire among innumerable others to see where France has leant a helping hand and created strong, independent nations which all share a common goal: Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité.

Even now, with the situation clearly out of its control, even when presented with options for armistice by various adherents to the French cause, Portugal screams bloody murder and rails that the oceans will run red with the vital fluids of its enemies. Some might say that France herself has not made such an offer, and to this I say our reasoning is obvious. Despite being given the option to simply admit defeat, and likely retain the greater half of its empire, despite being vastly outnumbered, Portugal insists on fighting to the end, just like Spain before it. It once more proves how disassociated with the world at large it has become. The noble house of Portugal is, quite simply and unfortunately, deranged.

I can say to you all that it was not dreams of empire which lead me to deal with the menace posed by Portugal; I already have an empire, and Portugal's does not much interest me. It was not an emotional affair - indeed, I am sorry that it had to come to this. It was, to borrow a German word, a move of realpolitik - a preemptive strike made of a desire of a secure Europe, and the removal of an instable and unreasonable power. If in this decision any of you find fault, then I call into question your qualifications and will to lead your countries as befits your people.

In short, we have done what has needed doing. If Pedro III wishes to further demonstrate his lack of reason by throwing his soldiers and sailors to their deaths, then let him come. If he decides to come to his faculties and listen to reason, we are open to negotiations. The choice is his.

So what would be the French peace terms? Giving up our most valued possession, for which in the past years Portugese men split their blood for? No man should be allowed to claim that Portugal acted crazy, wasting the lifes of its citizen.

This only prooves that nobody dares to challenge France anymore. These once proud nations just hope that they will be spared. They hope that they will recieve their share of the cake.

OOC: Did I understand this correctly? Panda lend France to Symphony? :crazyeye: . Sheep/beloved capulet in itnes? In some years you will most likely be able to buy a mercenary ninja-neser when you are away for a week. A man should stand with his nation and fall with his nation.

OOC: Alright, I've had enough of that kind of bullfeathers. For one thing, Panda wrote the entire budget, domestic, and foreign policy sections of his orders. Second, the military sections, which I wrote, were based upon discussions we had had previously OOC on strategy, and generally followed what he had told me he was going to do with slight number differences; Panda didn't have the time to write them himself. Third, Panda is well capable of handling himself militarily, or he wouldn't have this empire in the first place. Fourth, I can't count the number of NESes that have gone down in flames because the main superpower disappeared, didn't do jack, or whatever. Fifth, it was approved. If das asks me to stop, I will. If you (especially you Thlayli) want to whine so much, petition him privately instead of dragging it around in the thread like a dead horse.

All of this was going to happen even if I wasn't running France. Panda was going to invade Portugal. He was going to give the Rhineland back to Germany. So on and so on.

The only thing you can possibly claim as "off" is to claim I somehow benefitted my own nation out of all proportion, which I can thoroughly demonstrate I didn't. I spent most of my time writing the Portuguese campaign as a favor, and my own orders suffered for it. In short, it's very little different than when quits a nation and somebody else takes it up, which happens all the time. The only difference is, I'm only running it for one turn at somebody else's request. So seriously, stuff it and take it to PM, because it has no place in the thread.

I know and this is not the point. I just dislike this in principle. I player is bound to his nation when he says "I CLAIM ****" and this bound is only cut when he says "omg school is kicking in, sorry no time".
