NESLife attempt #3

@Shadowbound - if you remove both, you are eating nothing i think!

@Dark. Several creatures, the sponges for example have used "larger" genes in multiples to increase their size. The whole point of this game is perspoterous if you are not directly evolving from something, i may aswell say:

plancktion-->Shark. Tail x1 jaws x1 theme music x1

PM sent to daft - this whole thing concerns me greatly.

Surly as in angry and bothered? Or do you mean 'surely'.

I have to agree with Abaddon here, it's a massive jump from plankton, and things don't just evolve from nothing.

@ Ig, i think i'll take both right now, but i meant to type surely.. im just a bit jaded today.

@~Darkning~, 30ft might be a bit too big right now :) Also, i noticed your creature can't eat anything! I will change one of the genes to some kind of digestion thing unless you want to edit it yourself.

Talking of digestion etc, i need to clear this up. I was thinking that 'complex stomachs' provide something of an omnivorous ability on their own, and can break down spikes/poison etc, but are best teamed up with flesh/plant eating for most energy efficiency. These things dont replace each other.

And maybe allowing bonuses etc for brand new species was a bad idea.

The rules are changing as this game goes along. It would be too complex for me to set it all at the start, given that A, i already have another NES to run, and B, as i said before i wasn't really expecting much interest in this when i began.

Hopefully ill be able to post more info and stuff tommorrow.

lol if it's closed again, than again it would be for being a too successfully NES :p

Hopefully I can upload the demo for the NESLife Attempt #3 RPG tomorrow. It's not much more than a glorified fishtank at the moment but the basics are there now:

Edit: I've just realised that should be a capital 'P', make it two days!

WOW! that, looks so uber! I want to look after my pet nippon :)

@all, I have revamped the front page trying to organise things a bit. Theres now a big list of genes and all their actual effects (all the info is hiding inside several layers of spoilers). Ive done all the genes up to the last update, plus some extras that aren't in the game yet (just for examples).

@Mauritania, still looking good! Looking forward to trying it out :)

@erez, i use the pencil thing for the lines. There is an option to fiddle with that toggles between square, straightened and totally wriggly lines. I usually use the middle one. Then to fill things in i use a 'gradient fill'. I have the 2004 version so i dont know how much i can say will be useful to you.

@Grombar, you could just edit your post if you want. I will go through the thread again before i update.

Speeking of which, no update tonight. I will try to at least start one tommorrow. I am also trying to update my other NES right now :) busy busy.

Great job with those genes, Daftpanzer! :)

Don't fret over the update, it'll come when you have the time. Having a mod who can keep the game running for a long time is more important than fastpaced updates.

thanks Niklas :)

BTW I had a section written up with genes for 'survival' in different habitats, but it has mysteriously vanished :(.

Blast from the past!

Anyone recognise their old stuff?

Ive been looking at the first NESlife thread, which i started over a year ago (started in may 2006, and crashed out in july). Ive been overcome by guilt and embarassment as i did so :(. There were a total of 8 updates, with the wait between them over two weeks at one point. I spent a lot of time on the graphics, that was fun, but also one of the main reasons it failed.

By comparison im already working on my 6th update for this, just over a week since it launched. I like to think im a bit more reliable now, a bit less obsessive and a bit more sensible about what i can handle. Hopefully there will be quite a few more updates for this.

BTW my other NES has also been going for almost a year now in various forms.

plancktion-->Shark. Tail x1 jaws x1 theme music x1

It takes a lot more than that to make a shark! At least theme music x2

The "skeleton" in my creature is made of cartilage (ie, like a real life shark). Should I just call it a skeleton and describe it as cartilage?

Lurker's Comment: I recognize my Frogus-Ickus and my Frogus-Goody or something :crazyeye: I definitely don't recognize the strange Pikachu though :p

You use Linear or Radial fill? How do you choose the right colors?

And how you make lines so pretty with this damn tools :p I've been trying to copy my Finner but I'm out of your league :(

Ohhh and yay my squid ^^

And change my slime eating into Plant eating gene in my newest evolution, thank you :)

Yes, how the heck did somebody evolve a pikachu in only 8 steps???

Tidalworm: NPC
Evolved from: Sandworm
Genes (2): Digging x1, Plankton Eating x1
Genes Added (3) : Water retention x 1, crawling x 1, Eating Dead Things x1
Genes Removed (1) : Plankton Eating x 1
Description: A not so primitive creature. Its predecessor the Sandworm found advantage in the shallow pools where plankton would congregate, These pools would often dry out - by having some basic water retention and the ability to dig helped the worm to survive. The tide washed up many dead objects - the worms that could cope with this food sourse raced ahead of their plankton eating compadres, and soon Plankton eating was lost completely. Constrictions within the worms body allows for some limited but sufficient movement.

The march to the land begins! Or should that be crawl?
