NESLife attempt #3

Thanks for the new species,

@The Loser, you can have three 'gene' things if your species is a brand new one thats going to appear. I will add a gene for moving around unless you say otherwise (the creature you posted would be immobile).

Basically you have two choices for adding a species:

#1 - something brand new that appears out of nowhere (actually evolves from plankton or some little tiny primitive creature that nobody took any notice of before). You get three genes to play with.

#2 - an evolution of an existing species (one thats in the stats). You get all the old species genes, and you can add two more.

At the moment, its a free-for-all where anyone can evolve from anyone else's species, but that might change later.

@ daftpanzer: thanks for the extra gene ;-)
You can use it for moving!

Terranoplang: Abaddon
Evolved from: Terranoplan
Genes (17): Photosynthesis x6, Cold Resistance x1, Hibernation x1, Carpeting x3, Water Retention x3, Acid x1, Roots x1, Stem x1
Genes Added: Roots x 1, Fruit x 1

Driving deeper into the soil, the excess nutrients allow the Terranoplan to make a sacrifice. It encapsualtes its seeds in a sweet fleshy organ which is attractive to plant eaters. The gain is threefold. For the seeds can resist the plant eaters stomach acids and arrive back on earth surrounded in a nutrient rich POO! It helps spread the plant out and also distracts the herbivores from the rest of the plant, reducing the predation it suffers.

Big Fanel V2: TerrisH
Evolved from: Fanel
Genes (20): Photosynthesis x5, Water Retention x2, Acid x2, Piercing Spikes x1, Stem x2, Leaves x2, Cold Resistance x1, Carpeting x1, Roots x2, Large Size x1, Fruit x1
New Genes: Photosynthesis x2, Fruit x1
Lost Genes: Piercing Spikes x.5 (no longer work, but still retains a coat of short, soft spikes. completely ineffective. just their for image)
Description: eventually, the Bigfanal got better and better are what it dose, refining it's ability to a new level. those that produced the best fruits survived, and those that produced the best fruit were those that produced the most energy.

I've changed my evolution. I'll use the Cavorytes next turn.

Scensuryte: Lord_Iggy
Evolved from: Respiryte
Genes (15): Crawling x2, Eating Dead Things x1, Plant Eating x1, Complex Stomach x1, Exoskeleton x1, Communal Behaviour x1, Claws x2, Water Retention x1, Lungs x2, Cold Resistance x1, Eyes x1, Climbing x1
Description: Intense competition on land has led to a development of a further extension of the family Scuteridae. Forced into a new niche, one group of Respirytes began to use their sharp leg-claws to climb the numerous trees, plants, and rock faces present in their environments- thus gaining both protection and access to the richest parts of plants. In order to do this, these creatures began to develop a more advanced system of musculature, anchored on the inside of their exoskeletons. Adapting to live in their new, more exposed environments, their primitive photosensors developed into three sets of compound eyes to keep a constant watch out for predators.

Evolves to...

Venatoryte : Lord_Iggy
Evolved from: Scensuryte
Gene added (max 2+1): Walking, Meat Eating, Claws
Gene removed (optional, max 2): Climbing
Description (optional): These Scuterids have developed their scavenging habits into outright predatory behaviour, beginning to actively hunt other animals. Their much longer legs and upright stance make efficient movers, and Venatoryte tribes can cover significant distances if necessary to find rich sources of food. Their powerful claws can tear apart the toughest greenery, and break through the strongest exoskeletons. However, as a side-effect of their stronger, longer legs, their climbing abilities have been lost.

Yuckius Yummius: BananaLee
Evolved from: Yuckius Lookus
Genes (14): Eyes x1, Drifting x1, Swimming x1, Plankton Eating x5, Disgusting Taste x3, Mass Reproduction x2, Poison x1
Genes Added: Flesh Eating +1, Swimming +1
Description: It has finally decided to add more to its menu. For the moment, it's limited to eating up whatever it can (just barely) catch and wouldn't kill them.

Intense competition always encourages rapid evolution. It is during these times that new species develop, falling into new niches and growing into them.

It was during one of these highly competitive eras that the Venatorytes first developed.

In the late Simplavoric, the arthropods on land were caught in a brutal struggle. It was not so much with each other, for each main lineage commanded its own region- The Scensurytes the trees above, the Terradids on the land, and the Respirytes in the tunnels beneath. There was some overlap, of course, but for the most part the Scensurytes could survive off the higher foliage, the Respirytes off roots, tubers, and certain land plants, and the Terradids off everything else.

Despite all of this, one niche remained consistently unfilled. That of a predator.

One group of Scensurytes, with a preponderance for leaving their trees to scavenge, was the first to develop predatory behaviour. During a typical border skirmish with a rival tribe, multiple rivals were killed. Immediately following the enemy's retreat, they began to consume the corpse, following their scavenger's instinct.

This would prove to be only the first step down a long and bloody road.

Spoiler mundane documentation :
Squiggly: North King
Evolved from: Slithery
Genes (12): Plankton Eating x3, Swimming x2, Vibration Sense x1, Eyes x1, Pressure Resistance x1, Cold Resistance x1, Mass Reproduction x1, Jaws x1, Communal Behavior x1
Description: The Slithery had been queen of the seas for millions of years, but the mass extinction, though survivable by the species, proved a challenge. To compensate, individuals who could replace lost populations faster thrived, and reproduction became far more efficient. They also swam in vast schools: millions of Squigglies at a time; this meant that they could aid each other in the hunt for food, in avoiding predators, and in general survival. Their more sophisticated mouthparts in the form of jaws allowed more efficient feeding and some amount of defense against the less powerful predators. The jaws also elongated the head, so that the Slithery looked more like an eel than a maw on a stick.

Cloudfish: North King
Evolved from: Squiggly
Gene added (max 2+1 bonus): Plankton Eatingx1, Communal Behaviorx1, Skeletonx1
Gene removed (optional, max 2):
Description (optional): Other creatures had slowly been taking over various niches in the ocean, and plankton eating was becoming more of a competition. The Cloudfish evolved to become the most social of these creatures, and several simple instincts (don't collide with other Cloudfishes, swim in the same direction as everyone else, and flee from predators) were actually able to make very complex swarming patterns. Flitting all around in every direction, they were able to confuse many predators, or at least force them to settle on only a few Cloudfishes instead of the whole school.

Lurker Sez: This reminds me of Pokemon. "Metapod evolves to....Butterfree!!!!"

Interesting new species!

There is a possibility of an update appearing tommorrow night.

Lurker Sez: This reminds me of Pokemon. "Metapod evolves to....Butterfree!!!!"

Yeah i could make a sub-game where people play as trainers, and have to travel the world to capture and train more creatures :)

With the success of the particularly aggressive tribe, their instinctive behaviours proliferated. Not only were they killing their enemies in normally bloodless territory disputes, but they were actively hunting their kin and other arthropods.

The aggressive tribe originated in the northern tip of Agonia (the northwesternmost continent of the central land group), but their descendants quickly spread throughout all of the nearby continents, save only a few small islands.

Their violent tendencies continued to refine over the generations. And, over great amounts of time, they changed physically as well.

The Venatorytes, as they are called, have grown long, lithe legs, excellent for moving along the land. This has ended their climbing ability, which now only manifests itself in the most desperate situations. The loss of the high tree nesting areas has forced new strategies for raising young. The soft eggs of Venatorytes are kept in small natural pools and puddles, always under the guard of at least one communal parent.

Their heads are now noticeably separate from their bodies, rotating to provide their red, triocular eyes with an even greater field of vision. One interesting development is a cranial crest. It remains colourless at most times, but flushes into bright patterns for communication, identification and display. The crest grows throughout a Venatoryte's lifespan, allowing clear identification of the tribe's dominant figures.

The animal's claws have developed into deadly killing tools. One section remains adapted for slicing plant and dead animal matter, while a much larger part has developed into a powerful, impaling spike.

For the first time since the long-ago eras of the ScuttleSamurai, the fear of predation is once again struck into the dull minds of the inhabitants of the land.

Spoiler an Appearance Summary for Daft :
Appearance Summary:
Long, lithe legs, raising the animal much further above the ground and allowing much faster travel.

Claws made up of a scissorlike cutter and a long, impaling spike. The spike is long enough to touch the ground when the animal is upright, though it is usually held at the Venatoryte's side.

Head noticeably differentiated from torso. It has three red eyes, in a triangular pattern. Additionally, it has a crest.

Predatory camouflage colouring, any way you want it.

A Terradid sat calmly on the forest floor. It methodically tore off chunks of a Zeeboo and placed them into its mouth. This continued for a few moments, until a sudden motion caught its attention. A nearby Fanel was shaking. A look up showed a small group of Scensurytes scuttling from one plant to another. A sudden movement flashed out at one of the slower animals. It missed, and retracted back out of sight.

The Terradid had by now stopped eating. It had never seen a predator before, but a long-buried ancestral instinct was struggling its way to the top of its mind.

A flash of blue suddenly distracted it. It looked up, trying to identify the source. Another flash caused it to spin its eye around. Nothing. With a vague feeling of unease, it resumed munching on the Zeeboo.

The Fanel shook slightly again. The Terradid looked up. The back of its field of vision showed a sudden extension of a spike. The terrified creature tried to flee, but it was pinned to the ground and suffering from a terrible sensation- like falling or getting attacked by a Scuterid tribe- but much worse, and filling its body.

The pain was that of being impaled. It continued for a few moments before a second spike struck it through the head, ending everything.

Two other Venatorytes walked out into the clearing, flashing their crests and making indecipherable rumbling noises. The three settled down onto the ground and began to open up the carcass, shoving their hungry mouths into the still warm Terradid.

A loud, croaking victory cry echoed through the small gully. An advancing group of Respirytes, drawn by the sight of scavenge, froze and hurried back to their protective burrows.

Gr-a-a-a-a-a-aaaa...
