NESLife attempt #3

Cool update Daft. I got no problem with the rules change.
Now on to the evolution.

Armed Quadrupler: C&cciv3
Evolved From: Quadrupler
Genes (17): Crawling x2, Plant Eating x1, Flesh Eating x1, Complex Stomach x2, Claws x3, Cold Resistance x1, Communal Behaviour x2, Brain Power x2, Eyes x1, Skeleton x1, Tough Skin x1
Description: Now armed with larger claws and tougher skin the Armed Quadrupler can now attempt to fended off predators with it large claws which most predators don't want to be caught by. Also it's develope Tough skin which is tougher an having scales skin (like fish scales) but not a tough as having a Shells or Exoskeletons but allow the Armed Quadrupler more freedom of movement in it limbs an either of those options.

To

Quintupler: C&Cciv3
Evolved from: Armed Quadrupler
New Genes: Flesh Eating +1, Plant Eating +1
Genes Lost:
Description: Sometimes the little changes which you can't see can have big effect on a specie. The Quintupler improve digestive system means they search food less often to the relief to plants and animals alike on the shallow sea floor.

Spoiler :
Terradid: Grombar
Evolved from: Xenodid
Genes (18): Crawling x2, Plant Eating x3, Complex Stomach x2, Claws x2, Cold Resistance x1, Exoskeleton x2, Eyes x2, Water Retention x2, Poison resistance x1, Lungs x1
Description: Life during the eternal night was hard, less plants grew so feeding became harder, more creatures fought for what was a plentiful food source and then came the cold. As their numbers dropped a change started to come over them giving them more tools to survive with.

Terradid MrkII
Evolved from: Terradid
Genes Added (max 2): Water Retention x1, Claws x1
Genes Removed (max 2):
Description: Over the years the Terradid's continued to do very well being one of the only plant eaters that could follow the plantlife farther inland. Now however the hunters where coming onto land more, and the even bigger issue was they where able to get farther and farther inland to keep hunting the Terradid's. Over time the Terradid's developed the ability to follow plantlife even farther inland to both continue opening up its feed grounds and to avoid predators. The other major improvement over these last 2 era's was the increase in effectiveness of its claws. The Terradid's had started to actively fight back. Between the Terradid's exoskeleton, claws and eyesight it was quite the match for most predators 1 on 1 and sometimes even 2 on 1.

OOC: On the naming thing I usually use the ending of whatever I've been using and just changing up the beginning to relate to whatever its major powers are. Though I have been just doing the Mrk II, III ect when the changes are more of just adding stuff thats already been there. Like Im just adding water retention and claws - both of which the Terradid already had, so it just gets Mrk II for this era.

A meeting between enemies:

As the Terradid was starting to harvest some of the Terranoplang's fruit; which was a very nice treat as the Terradid's where finding out, it sensed more than heard (lacking any type of hearing at this stage) something hiding out in the forest of Big Fanel's that where surrounding the Terradid. Packing away the last of the piece of fruit it was munching on the Terradid turned around to face whatever was out there.

Since hunters had been more aggressive and able to follow the Terradid's into what they considered their home turf, this particular Terradid readied it claws and backed itself against one of the nearby Fanel's to protect its back.

Out of the forest emerged the feared Venatoryte. These feared creatures where the deadliest of the hunters that had arrived on shore. The Terradid having just eaten a large meal was in no shape to "run" farther inland where the Venatoryte couldn't follow and thus prepared for the fight that must come.

The Venatoryte seemed to be alone which was a good thing for the Terradid, this was something it could handle indead. As the Venatoryte was used to creatures running or cowering from its fearsome presence it was not expecting the sudden rush of the Terradid. The Terradid using its full crawling power to give it a short burst into the reach of the Venatoryte it was able to get under its arm and avoid the first swing of the Venatoryte's mighty claws and latch onto its leg and clamp down. The Venatoryte really did not like this and gave out a mighty scream. The leg now useless collapsed under the Venatoryte's weight and it came crashing down. Seeing the Venatoryte helpless the Terradid promptly moved out of the range of the predator's claws and started its trek back inland to safer lands.

I'll probably start working on charts soon. Just give me some time.

This chart has been made obsolete by the next chart, located here.

Spoiler mundane details :

Slithery: North King
Evolved from: Wavy
Genes (9): Plankton Eating x3, Swimming x2, Vibration Sense x1, Eyes x1, Pressure Resistance x1, Cold Resistance x1

+

Wormfish: North King
Evolved from: Slithery
Gene added (max 2+1 bonus): Small Sizex1, Flesh Eatingx1, Complex Stomachx1
Gene removed (optional, max 2): None
Description (optional): This extremely small species (roughly the size of a minnow) is surprisingly beneficial to the ocean. Small enough to escape the notice of just about every predator, except the extremely young (which it can outswim), it hangs around the schools of both predator and prey, zipping around, quite unnoticed by most. Whenever it sees a parasite like the Packcult, however, it immediately swerves into action: nipping at the threads, chewing them off, and digesting them. A small mouth comes in handy, as mechanical digestion alone can be enough to utterly destroy the threads; their complex stomach does the rest, rendering the threads harmless. Thus, the bigger fish attract the attention of predators, leaving the Wormfish unscathed, while the Wormfish in return nibbles at parasites before they become too much of a problem.

Don't think I've actually said it yet, but this is by far one of the most interesting games I've played.

Proto-Fern: Niklas
Evolved from: Proto-Moss
Genes (19): Photosynthesis x6, Cold Resistance x1, Hibernation x1, Carpeting x3, Water Retention x3, Airborne Spores x2, Mass Reproduction x1, Leaves x1, Roots x1
Description: Early fern-like plants, where the stems of the Proto-Moss have evolved into lobate leaves sticking up from the carpets, to carry the spores further into the air while at the same time helping photosynthesis. Roots also help the Ferns gain better footholds, and increase their water supply.

Evolution Template:
Protofernus Gramhier : tuxedohamm
Evolved from: Proto-Fern
Gene added (max 2): Mass Reproduction x1, Water Retention x1
Gene removed (optional, max 2):
Description (optional): The Gramhier has increased its spore output to carpet over larger areas faster, that plus its increased range from water sorces has caused fields of Gramhier with their small leaves to be seen for miles.

Can i play? i want to know morea bout the genes of teh animals already here

Here gos

New animal

photosynthesisx1
massproductionx1
Hibernating sporesx1

and it is called.... simple-Moss!

A new Invasion of land with the simple moss! These are hard to scrape off os stones to eat!

Patchy Fern
Evolved from: Proto-Fern
Gene added (2+1): Leaves x2, Roots x1
Gene total (22): Photosynthesis x6, Cold Resistance x1, Hibernation x1, Carpeting x3, Water Retention x3, Airborne Spores x2, Mass Reproduction x1, Leaves x3, Roots x2
Description (optional): Instead of relying on stems, the ferns simply grew larger and larger leaves. With no high trees to compete with, every inch could be used for photosynthesis, with some sturdier roots to support them and help supply them with water.

OOC: I'm aiming for fern-like forests, sort of like these but larger.

@Charles Li: Welcome to NesLife! :) The existing creatures can be found on the first page. I hope you realize that what you posted is a plant and not an animal (you said it was ;)) and that it will not be a "moss" since it will grow in water (no Water Retention so it can't be on land).

Also, please limit your signature to 5 lines as per the forum rules (or 7 lines in size 1 like mine).

I did! But, ok, it should be moss, evoved frem platon, evove ability to mass produce hibernating spores and , the killer is, the spored and hibernate till compition is hawed fore retarting a new population1

That's six lines, not five :p. And we'll see what the great Daftpanzer says about your moss.

Clepsuryte: TerrisH
Evolved from: Scensuryte
Genes (15): Crawling x2, Eating Dead Things x1, Plant Eating x1, Complex Stomach x1, Exoskeleton x1, Communal Behaviour x1, Claws x2, Water Retention x1, Lungs x2, Cold Resistance x1, Eyes x1, Climbing x1
New Genes: Water Retention x1, Cold Resistance x1
Description: Intense competition on land has led to a development of a further extension of the family Scuteridae. Forced into a new niche, one group of Respirytes began to use their sharp leg-claws to climb the numerous trees, plants, and rock faces present in their environments- thus gaining both protection and access to the richest parts of plants. Eventually, as their Habitat of Choice expanded, they to evolved to follow them, becomign partialy resistant to the cold, and better evolved to survive in dry weather.

OOC: this okay Iggy? no major changes, just making sure they can follow the Fanal's to cover more area.

I still firmly believe that all species should be available for evolution.

DEFINTE.

How else will there be branches in evolution? Show that different paths can be taken etc.

<--- is annoyed noone has ever tried to evolve my own creatures

I don't think it's a problem, as long as one can ask permission to evolve off of someone else. The only time it will ever be an issue is if player A has planned a series of evolutions, but player B goes in and does one of them before A finds the time. That kind of thing will not be possible if evolution is restricted. In all other cases it should only be to ask, and I would certainly recommend everyone to allow evolutions off their creatures. I won't say no to anyone who asks (unless, as I said, you're stepping on the turf I'm headed for ;)).

Totally agree with this statement.

A very interesting thing about moss is that , unless someone get retratable teeth/jaws, most plant eaters can even think of the moss as food... and , thoose with retractable jaws need teeth to scrape the moss off.... go baby!

...slow clap is in order i thing...

I am rejoining. I have a terrible idea, that will make certain people hate me, yet am undecided. however, if I post TOO early it will be easy to beat. so when is the deadline?

(not sure I am doing it. might heed abaddon and evolve one of his creatures)
