NESLife attempt #3

Yeah, I just installed it. Here's a simple chart:

CLASSIFI.png

I might do a simplified version of Splime's charts, for easier reference. His will have pictures, mine will be viewable much more easily.

Will this be a classification chart for all currently living species or all species ever?

That one only includes current species (though I'm not sure I'm going to continue it, as the tree of life gets more complex things will need to be re-classified, etc...).

I'm almost finished a grand tree of all life, which I will post soon. And then I'll get back to my own update.

Tranel: TerrisH
Evolved from: Proto-Tranel
Genes (26): Photosynthesis x7, Water Retention x3, Stem x2, Leaves x2, Cold Resistance x2, Carpeting x1, Roots x2, Large Size x1, Fruit x2, Fast Growth x1, Stinging Tendrils x1, Hibernating Seeds x1, Bulbous Roots x1
New Genes: Flesh eating x1, Grasping Branches x1, bark x1
the Original Tranal, a Predatory plant that most fear. Identified from the Tranal's by it's long, drooping branches, heavier branches. while it ignores the Clepsuryte's that live among it's branches, when any other animal tries to eat anything but it's fruit, It reacts vilontly, seeking to wrap it's branches around the offending animal, gripping it and squeezing tighter and tighter until. *pop*. the corpse is then placed in a hole in it's trunk near the roots, there it's digested.

Spoiler Lucky's stats, not my evolution :
Scalavalion : Luckymoose
Evolved from: Landavalion
Genes (21): Plankton Eating x1, Complex Stomach x1, Flesh Eating x1, Vibration Sense x2, Eyes x2, Pressure Resistance x1, Brain Power x1, Skeleton x1, Cartilage x1, Jaws x2, Fangs x1, Communal Behaviour x1, Crawling x1, Water Retention x1, Lungs x1, Walking x1, Scales x1, Digging x1
Description: A more scaled creature than its predecessors it no longer swims or gains food from the water (at least not as adults). Instead it uses digging to its advantage to ambush small critters. As well as use burrows to give its young a safe start once they have left the water. The scales give a protection while in the open. But usually they stay in the safety of small tunnels.

@TerrisH- You do have an affinity for active defense, don't you? That and blurring the plant/animal demarcation.

I'm just uploading my night's project right now.

Here's the full and simple evolutionary tree. No fancy details, just names and lines. I might add little extinction marks to the dead ones in future incarnations of this.

Thanks Iggy!

And now the next step in evolution!

Evolution Template:
Penniger Lacerta : Luckymoose
Evolved from: Scalavalion
Gene added (you can add two): Small Feathers x1, Complex Muscles x1
Gene removed (optional, max 2): Crawling x1, Plankton Eating x1
Description (optional): The need for faster movement and stronger grasping ability against small animals on land caused the scales to evolve into small fuzzy feathers as a form of camouflage to hide against the rocks and ground. Giving it a tan to dark orange color. Now evolved to use its back legs for movement in a wobbling run and the front legs as stabilizers while in this run and not for fast running. The tail shrinks down to nearly nothing but small feathers in a clump and the head shrinks and becomes elongated. Allowing for larger animals to be crunched in the mouth. Digging is still used to lay the eggs of the young in damp sand near the coast. As the young still require large amounts of water near them until they mature. Allowing them to venture farther from the coast line. The eat the anthropoid type animals for high protein. The claws on the feet grow longer to help balance and to scratch or hold down larger prey as they are killed. The only weakness is the need for open land for a fast sprint. Other areas make hunting success unlikely.

Tolerant Zeeboo: Fulton
Evolved From: Energetic Zeeboo
Genes Added (max 2+1): Water Retention x1, Cold Resistance x1, Heat Resistance x1
Genes Removed (max 2): None
Description (Optional): Although the golden age of the Zeeboolands was over, the silver age was about to begin. The Zeeboo had carved out a niche in the roughest parts of the planet. They would continue as they always have, pushing ever further into the driest and most extreme parts of the planet.

The Zeeboo changed to adapt to several new regions of the world. Firstly, it developed the ability to withstand cold so as the withstand the cold nights of the desert, the lower reaches of mountain ranges, and to adapt to the global downward shift in temperature. It also evolved tolerance toward heat, oddly enough. Though contradictory at first, the desert landscapes that suffer extremes of heat in the day and extremes of cold at night gave birth to this duality.

The Zeeboo continued to develop their water retaining skills as they expanded into drier areas, and had to compete with new invaders in wetter areas.

******************************

If having both heat and cold tolerance is unacceptable, I will repost new stats.

I reiterate my permission for anyone to evolve any stage of the Zeeboo line of evolution.

And also, my thanks go out to Iggy for his chart, and to Daft for his continued dedication to this wonderful game.

Yeah, I also insist that all things evolved by me (interestingly, the Hiboryte is attributed to me :D) are open for evolution by others. I want the tree of life to be a tree, not a log!

BTW, I was just reading some old updates, and realized just how far the Grombar/Iggy (or 'Did'/'Yte') rivalry goes. All the way back to the first evolution of the Scuteryte, and the competition has been unyielding since then.

Glad you like the charts Fulton!

Nice, Iggy. :)

As I stated earlier, all of my creatures are open for evolution.

An attempt at a classification scheme for Blobsterum:

I like it NK! How's about this- you keep doing that bit of classification, while I do the tree of life, and Splime/Niklas do the pictures of evolution. Is this good with everyone?

Well, I am somewhat hesitant to give names for everyone's creatures, but I don't really mind doing it, so yeah, I can keep on with it. :p

EDIT: It's been updated with the Finners. I did not file them under Vertebrata, mostly because they are simply unrelated to Blobsters, who make up almost all vertebrates on the planet; instead I filed them under the Spikii subphylum, which I think better describes them. They were probably related, extremely distantly, to the Blobsters, so I put both Spikii and Blobsterum as subphyla and the overall phylum as Chordata.

Ok, ok, I'm back.

Black Lureel: Thlayli
Evolved from: Dark Slithery
Genes (10): Swimming x2, Vibration Sense x1, Eyes x1, Pressure Resistance x1, Cold Resistance x1, Eating Dead Things x1, Smelling x1, Lure x1, Flesh Eating x1
Description: After they lost that redundant plankton eating skill, (being plunged into darkness,) the Dark Slithery developed a lure to attract small, bottom feeding creatures to its light, where it then strangled them. It remains an effective scavenger, and has become longer and thinner, to suffocate and digest unsuspecting Dibblers and Slitheries.

Spoiler The really boring stuff I put in here so that you know I'm not inserting twenty genes at a time :
Swamp Amph: NPC
Evolved from: Flying Amph
Genes (18): Plankton Eating x1, Swimming x3, Vibration Sense x1, Eyes x1, Cold Resistance x1, Flying x3, Jaws x1, Flesh eating x3, Cartilage x1, Lungs x1, Water Retention x1, Crawling x1
Description: The basic design of the Flying Amph had remained unchanged for millions of years. Inevitably, though, one group managed to establish itself on land - or more accurately, on the shores of tropical swamps, rivers and lakes. The young still develop in water, partly feeding on plankton, while the adults can hunt for small/young animals above or below the water. The gills are no longer functional, yet the lungs are still poorly developed. Thus the species has problems with oxygen levels, limiting the time it can spend being active.

+

Skyscreamer: North King
Evolved from: Swamp Amph
Gene added (2+bonus): Eyesx1, Water Retentionx1, Lungsx1
Gene removed (optional, max 2): Plankton Eatingx1
Description (optional): A dedicated flying land creature, the Skyscreamer was the terror of the skies, able to spot any prey with its sharp eyes, and maintaining a fast metabolism with its excellent circulatory and respiratory systems. It could still dive extremely well to pluck prey out of the coastal shallows or rivers inland, but the majority of its food came from younger creatures on land or small flying creatures. It nests primarily in rocky crevices, but will use the (non-aggressive) trees when rocks aren't safe enough.

Urchin: TerrisH
Evolved from: Slimeotron deslover
Genes (7): Photosynthesis x2, Water Retention x2, Acid x1, Piercing Spikes x1, Crawling Roots x1

Evolves to...

Chungus : Lord_Iggy
Evolved from: Urchin
Gene added (you can add two): Mass Reproduction, Acid, Scavenging Roots
Gene removed (optional, max 2): None
Description (optional): As the continents broke up, a species of Urchin in Caliburn began to specialize in decomposition. These plants slowly crawl onto dead organic matter, their saprophytic roots and powerful acid (also useful for deterring predation) quickly break down and harvest the matter. While it feeds, the Chungus periodically releases vast clouds of miniscule spores, to propagate its species. Once the food source runs out, the Chungus will crawl off, to find new food. Even if it doesn't survive said journey, it will have released millions of spores, some of which will land in suitable areas. Chungi play a critical role in their ecosystems. They are responsible for the quick transformation of dead matter into fertile soil, greatly enhancing the productivity of any forest they are present in.
