NESLife attempt #3

Yes and there are problems with the double Finners plankton eating gene... It appears twice in it and most species after it...

Hmm... This was an issue that I fixed last time. I checked and all i see now are seperate Plant and Plankton eating...

Just noticed also that the Certanops died out in era 20, but are still listed as alive on the stats for this era.

Ah thanks. Ive updated the 'census' thing and changed my stats for next time.

I don't understand how an animal with pressure resistance is a predator in fresh water exactly. I think there should be genes to be freshwater organisms, IMHO.

Yeah, im afraid i have let this get messed up :). There's also an issue where 'cold resistance' isnt needed for living at depth, even though the water down there must be the coldest, and since its at greater pressure there is greater contact with the water molecules and greater heat loss, etc...

Maybe we can just assume 'cold resistance' and 'pressure resistance' overlap somehow. And that for low levels of 'pressure resistance' (like x1 or maybe x2 also), its not living too far down, not so specialised that it cant live near the surface too?

Pre Legger : erez87
Evolved from: LandScraper
Gene added : Walking +2, Lungs +1
Gene removed : Crawling -2,
Description: A new small animal that appeared in Lemunesia. Evolved from the LandScraper, they had to learn to walk faster to escape predators. Rather than running back to the already full seas they begun to go deeper into the land. Their lungs capacity grew as well as their legs - becoming more efficient, allowing them to run from the large predators all around them. They were also very small - hiding in small holes and vegetation from predators. They were sometimes known to use their larger than normal digging animals size to throw diggers out of their own holes to hide until danger leaves and than running away to another place. Fast walking and small size was their trade mark at this era. They were Ok swimmers allowing them to move across the islands of Lemunesia to reach extra lands. Soon they reached larger continents in this way and it is presumed - but still not known - that they also appeared on Heftulania. Only few remains were seen there thought those may have come on predators bellies rather than from their own little living bodies.

Welcome back to the Land Finners (Scrapers)
Seems that the Spikii has four divisions

Early Finners/Spikki
Bloom Finners/Ol
Land Finners/Scrapers
Shark/Pack Finners

I'll do Ol Scraper, and also, It can't dig with out a gene to dig! Besides, they need water retention to go deaper into land and you need to crawl in Tunnels. Ol Scraper Comming up!

Ol Scraper: Charles LI
Evolved form : Land Scraper
New Genes: Prevailant Spikes(head spikes and small body spikes,or head spikes;spikes)x1 Diggingx1 Walkingx1
Genes(20) : Skeleton x1, Jaws x1, Plant Eating x4, Swimming x2, Eyes x1, Water Retention x2, Crawling x2, Lungs x2, Walking x 2 diggingx2 prevailant Spikes(or head spikes;spikes)x1
As they are eaten, the ones that survive have a curious mutation, a head spike, but also known are prevailant bodyspikes alover the place. These scrapers take advantage of their spikes to dig burrows under attac tranels to prtect them and to feast in thier Bulbs.

It doesn't dig. It steals holes already dug by others (if allowed).
Ol Scraper as in a land animal with a spike? but there is already one with a big skull, why would this one be any better, what new area would it take? At least try evolving it in another continent than the skull Scraper.

BTW I decided I'll only evolve into non taken areas of expertise and too less improving of animals so that next extermination area it would be more real as animals who did one thing will change to other things. (I will improve things from time to time thought).

I mean prevailant spikes, and they can be used to dig for Tranel Bulbs! Like a armour thing, like early tanks, spikes on the head, a like through the spine, knee spikes... but not enough to cause swimming and digging problems. anyways, I still get it to be fairly well because they hve a new Niche(root and bulbs) and a way to defend.

Yes, and when you think, I think that x3 is specialization. Imagine a hairy Camel, good for frozen desert of Gobi and also the Sahara.

3 isn't much either... Daft ones posted a human, and it had ten's of genes... (Thats another reason why I see us quite early in evolution, not many genes).

My mistake, it just had 147 genes... which far more than anything we got.

Spoiler The Old :

Aquaupler: c&cciv3
Evolved from: Sextupler
Genes (25): Crawling x2, Plant Eating x2, Complex Stomach x2, Claws x3, Cold Resistance x1, Communal Behaviour x2, Brain Power x2, Eyes x1 Skeleton x1, Tough Skin x1, Water Retention x3, Tough Eggs x1, Parenting Instinct x1, Pack Hunting x1, Long Legs x1, Floating Feet x1
Description: With the Sextupler crossing the sea to Lemunesia they evolve a new way to cross the seas. They crawl on water! Using the long leg to spread it weight out and its large feet allow it to displace the water to the point they can do this. Their long legs also allow them to ranch the leaves in forest tree, and allow rise in body above the reach of most predators.

To:

Piedieau : c&cciv3
Evolved from: Aquaupler
Gene added (3): “Hydrodynamically Shaped Feet”* +1, Tough Skin +1, Lungs +1
Gene removed: Pack Hunting -1, Claws -1, Water Retention -1
Description: As time went on the Aquaupler started to streamline itself to help it float on water and to develop ways to move quicker. Their feet begin to shape themselves to allow them to move quicker across water. Their skin on the feet and legs got tougher to help resist damage against predators. They also developed lungs to allow quicker movement of the limbs to faster on land and on water.

* I couldn't think of a better name for that gene.

Here are too evolution ideas I just came up with:
NPC IDEAS

Manenian : NPC
Evolved from: Kanenian
Gene added (you can add 3, or 4 with bonus): Plant eating x2, Jaws x1
Gene removed (optional, remove up to 3 or 4 with bonus): , Digging -1, Flesh Eating -2
Description: The Kanenian were the rulers of Agonia for a few eras now. It was only time until their group would evolve to take more areas of expertise in the lonley continent. The Manenian are very different. Walking on all four again to carry their growing stomachs and with an increased jaw size and streght this animals could tackle even the mighty Rock Zeeboo. With all need for flesh gone and with eating more Zeeboos and other large plants and no need to dig for small animals they also lost all signs of being able to dig. Their fangs still survived for some defense against their Kanenian predecessors.

Mursulanyte : NPC
Evolved from: Ursulanyte
Gene added (you can add 3, or 4 with bonus): Exoskeleton x2, Crawling x1
Gene removed (optional, remove up to 3 or 4 with bonus): Claws -2, Climbing -1
Description: Climbing is a risky and often energy demanding job when you're large. The Ursulanyte couldn't keep doing that for too long and soon sub species of them lost all climbing capabilities. That wasn't the end thought. Evolving a better form of heavy defense this subspecies evolved a larger, and ever growing exoskeletons, heavy and harsh for enemies to go through. Their crawling capabilities on land also improved by much so they were rather quick on their legs. With their large size and heavy skeleton they could just step on whatever messed with them and soon the energy needing but useless Claws were also gone. The Mursulanyte was a large exoskeleton herbivore that lived it's lives in ever lasting couples that fed on tree trunks and other tree parts they could reach. They could also bring trees down with their heavy armor to eat them down at floor level.

Spoiler The math and ever so dull documentation :
Fire Raider: NPC
Evolved from: Longbay Fireskimmer
Genes (23): Vibration Sense x1, Eyes x3, Cold Resistance x1, Flying x5, Jaws x1, Flesh eating x3, Cartilage x1, Lungs x2, Water Retention x2, Crawling x1, Talons x2, Brain Power x1
Description: With improved eyesight and brain power, the Dawnraider can make split-second adjustments in-flight to intercept its target. It dogfights with other flying creatures and has no hesitation in hunting its own ancestors. Other land creatures are still on the menu too, if the opportunity arises. It no longer swims, preferring to roost in treetops instead, though it actually has a greater need for moisture.

Black Aurora: North King
Evolved from: Fire Raider
Gene added (4): Eating Dead Thingsx1, Complex Stomachx1, Skeletonx2
Gene removed (optional, 4):
Description: The Black Aurora made a quantum leap in internal design from the Longbays, and was thus afforded its own new genus. The cartilage had been largely replaced by hollow bones, whose honeycombed structure allowed them to be almost as strong as solid bone, while being far lighter than even cartilage. In addition, the digestive tract evolved further than ever before: the Aurora was able to scavenge in addition to eating smaller prey. When times were rough, it was still able to survive; even thrive.

Two things:

1) I rearranged the stats to group them by function, since they looked rather messy. The order is energy, senses, movement, weapons, internal structure, survival adaptations, and intellect.

2) To save space, perhaps Eating Dead Things could be shortened to Scavenging.

Dwarf Bulgorb : Crezth
Evolved From: Uglybug
Genes (9): Digging x2, Water Retention x 2, Walking x 1, Mass Reproduction x1, Jaws x1, Sticky Profusion x1, Flesh Eating x1
Genes Removed (3): Crawling x1, Eating Dead Things x1, Leaping x1
Description: These small, dark-red creatures stand little more than half a foot off the ground on two legs. They are essentially contracted Uglybugs with legs. The Bulgorb claims as its signature trait a sticky profusion which it can spread with its tongue, capable of attracting and then trapping insects. It then retrieves the insects, no matter how tough their exoskeleton, and undoes them with its jaws. When danger nears, it burrows into the ground, having inherited the digging abilities of the Uglybug, and it still reproduces at a relatively quick pace. Gone, however, was the metabolism that enabled it the privilege of eating the dead, and the new lanky legs could not afford it the ability to leap as the Uglybug could.

OOC: I've been checking out NESLife for awhile, and I don't believe it an understatement to say it is the single most creative NES I've seen in this forum. Well done, Daftpanzer, for your focus and hard work! It's really remarkable. And thus my sad attempt to step in, late in the game, with a weak new species. Who knows? Maybe it'll live.

EDIT: Made it evolve from the Uglybug with certain derivations to my liking. I remember in Update 20 the new insects, and figured the next best creature would capitalize on their existence. Hopefully my supposition is not incorrect!

Can't we make new species?

It won't survive, it has no water-retention. It might survive in the swamps, but barely. I would personally think it would be better for you to evolve it from a currently existant animal.

It annoys me to no end how complex life has risen over ten different times in different species. Your animal would do great as a small crawler which developed this insect trapping method. Maybe evolve from one of those.

Sure you can, but if you want them to live on land you need at least one level of Water Retention. So starting from scratch most likely means starting in the sea.

Hmm, alright, you make a good point. I'll revise the creature. Thanks for the advice.
