NESLife attempt #3

Collective Zeeboo: Fulton
Evolved From: Leafy Zeeboo
Genes Added (max 3): Photosynthesis x2, Communal Behaviour x1, Leaves x1
Genes Removed (max 3): Water Retention x2
Description (Optional): The Zeeboo had carved out their niche as the premiere plant in marginal lands. The march of time, and the Zeeboo’s own efficiency at turning these marginal lands into flourishing ecosystems eventually worked against the Zeeboo. The planet was becoming wet, and dry adapted plants like the Zeeboo were finding fewer and fewer places to survive. Rather than marching further into the last rough areas of the planet, the Zeeboo marched backwards into the lush wetter lands around them.

The Zeeboo continued to build up its energy producing ability. Further development of their appendages and of their intellect were in the works, but needed to be fuelled by greater energy collection abilities. The Zeeboo of this era built on the success of the Leafy Zeeboo and continued on the path towards energy efficiency.

The Zeeboo had for a long time displayed early signs of communal living, but in this era it was especially pronounced.

Loving the Rock Zeeboo man.

awesome update and yay! I got a bonus. New creature to come over the weekend.

Great Update as always Daft! Nice to know that my Heftupler was good enough for bonus point (even if I don't get the point for it).

Spoiler :
Uglybug: RFHolloway
Evolved from: Leafworm
Genes (9): Digging x2, Water Retention x 2, Crawling x 1, Eating Dead Things x1, Mass Reproduction x1, Jaws x1, Leaping x1
Description: The uglybug had a number of advantages over the more primitive leafworm. The ability to lay eggs after feeding gave the newly hatched uglybugs at least a chance that the other material around them had decomposed a little more to provide additional food. If it hadn't the mouthparts were more developed, enabling them to get even the tougher parts from dead things. Although vulnerable above ground, it was able to jump to safety by using its coiled body like a spring.

Spring bug

Evolved from Ugly bug
New genes
leaping x1, vibration sense x1 Flesh eating x1

A more sinister and dangerous offshoot of the bug family was the spring bug. Hiding in the ground waiting for large animals such as Karakavalion to come past, the springbug would leap and bite onto whatever was passing. They would continue to feed until they were shaken off, when they would burrow into the ground to slowly digest their meal.

@ daft - liked the leaping, was going for fly or mosquito type thing, but we now have the incredible bouncing leech! as for feedback - the update was clear - particularly liked the "Census thingy" (tm) daftpanzer all rights reserved and the comentary gave me clear feedback on potential predators (very few) and potential food sources

Description: the TrilArm continued to build upon the success of it's predecessors. One of the faster creatures that Existed in the Era, It's upright stance and sharp eyesight could see for a long distance, often allowing it to sight prey, predators, or prime food sources from a fair distances. It's arms grew stronger and longer, taking better advantage of it's now up-right stance.

and an possible NPC. was going to use it as my primary, but way to silly. inspired from the Dusearm's picture and Star Wars Episode 1
Rollarm: NPC
Evolved from: DuseArm
Genes (32): Crawling x2, Plant Eating x2, Flesh Eating x2, Complex Stomach x2, Claws x3, Communal Behavior x2, Brain Power x3, Eyes x2 Skeleton x1, Tough Skin x1, Water Retention x3, Tough Eggs x1, Parenting Instinct x1, Pack Hunting x1, Walking x2, Lungs x2, Grasping Arms x1, Vibration Sense x1

Description: rolling across the plain rappidly, the Rollarm is mearly a duse armed that has learned a new trick. for long distance travle over the open plaines it likes to travel, it with get up a good sped, then curl up into a ball, it's limbs tucked up inside it's form, and only it's eyes sticking out it's sides. it will then roll along on the thick pad along it's back, rapidly moving across long distances.

Awesome update, as always. And that's even before the promised scene pictures, that are usually the cream of the crop.

Does anyone happen to know who the Proto-Moss belongs to? It is still alive but I realised the name is missing in the stats.
'tis mine, it is.

My! both Scapers and Attack Tranels are going! I think you should do Ol Scraper as a NCP.... and Trapper Tranels for NCP, Evolution comming soon!

Ok, thanks Niklas! Ill fix that in the stats for next time.

>Added pics to the update, not happy with them exactly tho. Stats have also been re-uploaded so its doesnt say 'era 19' at the top anymore...

@RFHolloway, i forgot that Luckymoose's Kanenian+co can also dig to eat your Uglybug, but their digging isnt great.

Going to watch TV will be back online laters

LandScraper : Charles Li
Evolved form : LungScraper
Genes(17) : Skeleton x1, Jaws x1, Plant Eating x4, Swimming x2, Eyes x1, Water Retention x2, Crawling x2, Lungs x2, Walking x 1
After the Catastrophe, some of the better sheltered survivors remained as they where, but the radiation caused a mutation in some of the species sheltering in north Caliburnia. And although their plant eating capacity increased.... their fines became straight again. And then, the gills were burned off as they relied on there good lungs to dive up to 3 minuets instead of using the gills. Slowly, they evolved into a more land sufficient form, separate feed channels and breath channels that helped the plant digesting rate even faster.... The LungScraper is no more.... In its place is the amphibious, diving and curious LandScraper...

Pre Legger : erez87
Evolved from: LandScraper
Gene added : Walking +2, Lungs +1
Gene removed : Crawling -2,
Description: A new small animal that appeared in Lemunesia. Evolved from the LandScraper, they had to learn to walk faster to escape predators. Rather than running back to the already full seas they begun to go deeper into the land. Their lungs capacity grew as well as their legs - becoming more efficient, allowing them to run from the large predators all around them. They were also very small - hiding in small holes and vegetation from predators. They were sometimes known to use their larger than normal digging animals size to throw diggers out of their own holes to hide until danger leaves and than running away to another place. Fast walking and small size was their trade mark at this era. They were Ok swimmers allowing them to move across the islands of Lemunesia to reach extra lands. Soon they reached larger continents in this way and it is presumed - but still not known - that they also appeared on Heftulania. Only few remains were seen there thought those may have come on predators bellies rather than from their own little living bodies.

Spoiler :
Volaticyte : Lord_Iggy
Evolved from: Clepsuryte
Genes (18): Crawling x2, Eating Dead Things x1, Plant Eating x2, Complex Stomach x1, Exoskeleton x1, Communal Behaviour x1, Claws x2, Water Retention x2, Lungs x2, Cold Resistance x1, Eyes x1, Climbing x1, Flying x1, Talons x1
Description: The previous eras had been very harsh on arboreal Scuterids. Mass extinctions, the near-annihilation of all forests, and the rise of climbing predators like Dendravalions and Xiavalions had put the species through multiple population bottlenecks and culls. Ultimately, those who survived were those who could avoid predation, through fight or flight responses. And those who thrived were those who could do both. Volaticytes, as well as being efficient plant-eaters and warm-weather specialists, developed their middle legs into flat planes, for use in gliding. And every leg or wing now terminated in a sharp talon. This talon had two uses. Firstly, they could be used for climbing. Secondly, they could be used to fight. So when confronted by hunters, Volaticytes could now flap to several trees away- or if their eggs were at stake, make a stand and fight.

Evolves to...

Flevryte : Lord_Iggy
Evolved from: Volaticyte
Gene added (you can add 3, or 4 with bonus): Vibration Sense, Eyes, Vocalization, Plant Eating
Gene removed (optional, remove up to 3 or 4 with bonus): None.
Description: Volaticytes have continued to specialize into their niche of flying herbivores. They still travel around in small flocks, and have developed better eyes, wings/aerodynamics, and digestive systems. Most notable, however, is the development of fleshy membranes in the trachea, allowing the Flevrytes to give off calls, ranging from peaceful and melodious warbles to shrieks. These are used for keeping track of everyone, contacting mates from other flocks, giving off warning calls, and much more.

Notes: The trachea, as many have noticed, does not overlap with the esophagus in land Scuterids. The animals breathe through the back, and eat through the front.

Hey plants! Would you be interested in developing a symbiotic relationship? You could develop a region for pollination, give Flevrytes and Volaticytes a little bit of food when we access it, and in turn your plants receive free pollination (IE: Flowers).

Spoiler :
Shellster Kipinus: tuxedohamm
Evolved from: Shellster Spitzepod
Genes (17): Drifting x2, Plankton Eating x7, Spikes x1, Shell x1, Tentacle x1, Smelling x2, Cold Resistance x1, Swimming x1
Description: Unable to get enough plankton in these lean times the ?? has slowly learned to navigate the waters through the syncronized motion of its tentacles. Using its sense of smell to search out pockets of plankton, it is now able to swim to them without waiting for the currents to move in that direction. (When discovered the consensus was to name it after Dr. Eric Kipins who had suffered multiple injuries when accidentally swimming into a school of these creatures.)

---

Shellster Gigantus: tuxedohamm
Evolved from: Shellster Kipinus
Gene added (you can add 3, or 4 with bonus): Plankton Eating x2, Large Size x1, Drifting x1
Gene removed (optional, remove up to 3 or 4 with bonus): [reminder: leave at least one gene for feeding/getting energy!]
Description: With the continued abundance of plankton, some shellsters grew larger and larger. The Shellster Gigantus took a while to reach full size, but once it did it was easily one of the largest species of Shellsters to have lived to date.

Shellster Gigantus: tuxedohamm
Evolved from: Shellster Kipinus
Genes (20): Drifting x3, Plankton Eating x9, Spikes x1, Shell x1, Tentacle x1, Smelling x2, Cold Resistance x1, Swimming x1, Large Size x1
Description: With the continued abundance of plankton, some shellsters grew larger and larger. The Shellster Gigantus took a while to reach full size, but once it did it was easily one of the largest species of Shellsters to have lived to date.

I suspect that once dead the shells might provide a nice home to some crawling critter living on the ocean floors.

@Daft: I just realized that the gene count for S. kipinus was 1 over. It only has 16. Ebiscone has 22 not 19. Koranops is correct. Certanops is correct.

I like the round spiral shape used for S. kipinus and would prefer the S. gigantus maintain that general shape, but do as you please, it will not upset me.

awesome stuff :D

@Lord_Iggy, Flevryte sounds groovy! Tho, they dont have any real 'ears' as yet to hear each other's vocalisation... But you could say they just make louder noises instead of trying to hear better :)

@tuxedohamm, thanks for pointing that out. I keep finding and fixing mistakes with each update, no doubt i keep adding them too :)

Yes and there are problems with the double Finners plankton eating gene... It appears twice in it and most species after it...

Just noticed also that the Certanops died out in era 20, but are still listed as alive on the stats for this era.

Wow, I'm honored to have a whole era named after my creature. :D The pictures look really great too.

Silver Intelieel
Evolved From: Golden Imperieel
Genes (21): Swimming x3, Flesh Eating x2, Vibration Sense x3, Strength x2, Eyes x1, Pressure Resistance x1, Cold Resistance x1, Smelling x1, Scales x1, Razor Scales x2, Communal Behavior x1, Brain Power x1, Pack Hunting x1, Large Size x1
Description: The success of the Imperieel brought higher populations and an increased lifespan. The new Intelieels formed family groups, and developed a rudimentary 'language' based on ultrasonic clicking. To satisfy their growing energy demands, Intelieels cooperated to attack the largest creatures on land and sea. Communicating over long distances, they used their unparalleled vibration senses to surround and eliminate prey successfully.

Added: Brain Power x1, Pack Hunting x1, Vibration Sense x1

I don't understand how an animal with pressure resistance is a predator in fresh water exactly. I think there should be genes to be freshwater organisms, IMHO.

Spawning salmon aren't denizens of the twilight zone, however. They're open water, at least the species I'm familiar with.
