New civ linked to new resource

Interesting. I don't know where people got this idea of "only one new resource" then.

From what he's saying as well, i don't think the resource (or resources) necessarily point out which civ is going to be in either. It sounds like the civ will just have an interesting new mechanic for using some of them and they want to announce them in tandem.

no tobacco, they'd have to add the "drug references" label to the game and maybe change the esrb rating

Are you sure about this? Civ has wine, alcohol is technically a drug and covered under the same US government agency as tobacco (ATF)

Eh, they're already 10+. Is Tobacco worse than Wine?

The ESRB is 10+ because of the animated violence, iirc.

Alpha you seem to have some misunderstandings as to the behavior of this game's AI? For one, they will never trade more than standard price for a luxury, even if they "need" it. For two, the AI explodes into a fit of rage when you take a city-state, whether they are allied to them or not. Taking all of them would just lead to massive hate from the AI and being unable to sell that glass for more than a few pennies.

I dont think I expressed myself well and without actually playing the way I perceive it will work I cant really know for sure. I'm thinking of it like a Nitrous Oxide boost in a car - it's going to give them a huge boost. I believe that it will be best used for conquest but I suspect other methods would work as well. My perception is once you suddenly break out in war mode everyone always hates you anyway but in this case you would have already offset the unhappiness which allows you to start on a conquest roll that the AI wont be able to stop. They stop trading with you after that first time but it's too late you are already capturing cities and the luxuries you were trading for before and the result becomes inevitible as you go on a tear. It might be easier to go to war with an unpopular civ than CS's now that I think of it but either way I think it will lead to you becoming a warmonger the way the mechanics are set up. If Glass comes in as exclusive (which I hope it doesn't) I honestly think I'm going to hate games with Venice/Italy in it. That is making a heck of a lot of assumptions though so I could be totally wrong.

Tobacco was in Civilization IV: Colonization. You could grow it, sell it, turn it into cigars, and sell the cigars. You could also make rum and sell that. That game was rated E 10+, the same as Civ V.

So I thought about it (don't think this one has been mentioned in this thread)...

The new resource may be Phosphate (or Fertilizer), and linked to Morocco.

Each city gains +1 gold and +x tourism "for each International Trade Route with" access to Phosphates.

Something along those lines :)

Nothing markets better than Phosphate

What's the history of Phosphate? I thought it was just a modern thing in Morocco?

pearls are not a new resource. They are already in the game.

It's either Rice of Buffalo. Could be Glass if Venice is in.
