New DLC: Polynesia

It's Kamehameha on a random map, but I believe that Hotu Matua is the leader in the "Paradise Found" scenario. Same leader graphics, they just switched the name for the scenario.

Ah, interesting.

Regardless, I think adding Polynesia is fine. It gives a generally unrepresented region of the globe some clout. You could argue that the Holy Romans are not a "civilization," even if they constituted a political entity.

Papeete was sooooo far from Nendo, even Malietoa ran away off with SPs.
Although, i had a full row of Moais in new Zealand - and, the soon coming bunch of SRs wouldn't have helped me catching up!

I expected a Frigate to battle with when James Cook showed up at Sci-Theory (Are you sure, Europeans were that advanced after reading the facts here?) or at least Magellan himself. Kinda puzzled me a little.
Thought i had "found" New Zealand, so no Steam-Achievement for that one. Weird.
Guam & Moruroa should have been Military CS, another missed opportunity!

My silly Trireme is toast and so is Hiva's.

Ooops, Monty just passed by and ignored both of us!
Wow.
It was a superb first game (Lost!) in a Paradise Scenario.

PS; Arrrggghhh, couldn't even accept the valid JPG or a ZIP - what's wrong with you CFC, lately?

ImageShack... it is.

When "finding" islands in the scenario, they have to be found on the random map version, and not the geographically correct one.

Well, I got the DLC, started CiV up, launched the scenario, and bam. It crashes. Just like the last DLC I got. *Sigh* Does anyone know how to fix this? The game is about the launch, then bam, 'Civilization V has crashed'.

Help please!

$5 for one Civ? What an orifice-nonconsensual-entering price. It's a good thing Civ5 is rubbish as it is without having to bend over for the DLC.

Depending on the width & shape of your land, you can get up to *6* culture yield tiles from Moai - as much as using a great artist.

e.g.

~ = coast tile
l = land
x = city

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
-~ ~ l l ~ ~ ~ ~
~ l ~ l l l ~ ~
-~ l l l x ~ ~ ~
~ ~ l l ~ l ~ ~
-~ ~ ~ ~ l l l ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Assume every coastal land tile has a Maoi (other than the city).

The resultant culture yield will look like this:

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
-~ ~ 3 4 ~ ~ ~ ~
~ 2 ~ 6 5 2 ~ ~
-~ 4 6 5 x ~ ~ ~
~ ~ 4 4 ~ 3 ~ ~
-~ ~ ~ ~ 3 4 2 ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Of course, you will need to balance out your tile improvements, but clusters of land around a cove make great spots to make clusters of Moai - they are much more effective the more Moai that surround them.

With a lot of water resources and a lighthouse, you can easily support the population to work those Moai, as well. And with Commerce/Workshop, you can still get some production done, though that city is beyond all doubt a Culture city at that point.

Granaries+Maritimes would also be useful... although you probably would have some land resources breaking up that pattern.

Glad they've actually made an official polynesia-area civ. I'm a Kiwi, so pretty pleased... BUT there are many different cultures in the area, and I am almost... almost inclined to be insulted by the claim that Hawaiian and Maori cultures are the same. Good work, but I'm sticking with Civ4 still... at least they're stil patching etc. this.

That wasn't the claim, IMO, anymore than lumping all Celts into one civ is claiming that all Celtic cultures were the same.

It's simply saying that they are a closely related group, and that there aren't enough effects/cities/etc to represent them all individually; Better to show them as a group, than not at all.

Rightfully so, otherwise Ghandi (soon to be modded into a Polynesian King by some competent Artist, i hope!) wouldn't have bought the juicy CS points much earlier than anyone in that game... New Zealand bottom left corner though, so i sent a Caravel allllll the way towards the top to dig for Guam. Silly me.

No Iron, No Oil, No Horse, No Coal, No Aluminum by the end. Shoootttssss, i reacted -- should have been spawning Temples much faster.

Quite the ride - but *now* that i know, here i come -- Gigantic Pacific.

Would be funny if, upon meeting you, he said, "My name is Kamehameha I, but call me Kalani Paiʻea Wohi o Kaleikini Kealiʻikui Kamehameha o ʻIolani i Kaiwikapu kaui Ka Liholiho Kūnuiākea."

(his full name)

I have a new favorite civ. Although I think Polynesia is a bit overpowered, due to their ability to travel on any water tile straight from the get-go.

I may never use another civ.
