New Mafia Hosting Queue

You've forgotten to state that NotW tends to have a lot of item- and/or location- dependent settings.

That's true, a lot of the old guard who played NOTW in 2007-2010 have vanished. With them gone, the games have suffered a little. And while NOTW hasn't borrowed heavily from mafia, the basic idea is rooted in mafia, and after the orgah influx of 2010 and subsequently, the people like me who mostly played clue games up to that point showing up in NOTW's, the NOTW's relaxed a bit and started doing things like not considering death an automatic loss.

I just looked, and I'm not seeing that rule anywhere in any of the game threads, though it is mentioned briefly in the NOTW information thread.

At the very least, some players, particularly the more purist NOTW'ers, considered it that way.

Which came back in a certain game I hosted which made most of the self-pereceived 'town' be Survivors.

I've had a sudden idea that we could maybe merge NOTWs into the mafia hosting queue and have two large and two small mafia games at a time. It would mean that we can rotate mafia games faster without being unfair. And we could still continue the NOTW tradition.

Thoughts?

I know that the queue is excessively backed up, but two games at once is a bit much. I might be able to see it for small games, but seeing as how we can barely generate enough interest to get 40 people for a large game, hosting two at once would effectively kill them both. I personally would sign up for both of them, but I know that not all people would.

Like I said, two small games at once could be an experiment, but that queue isn't as backed up as the large queue.

If we had 50-60 regular mafia players, I would say go ahead. But I remember when I first found the mafia forum that about 3 large games died in signups before TF2 was hosted (about 6 months sooner than choxorn expected IIRC). My point is that we can normally find 35-40 people that want to play mafia at any one time, and some of them will only want to play one at a time.

Just my thoughts.

EDIT: If you wanted more mafia, you could experiment with a 'medium' sized queue, with games having 21-26 (really any number between 26 and 29 for the max), so some small game hosters might add a couple of roles and give the small queue a break, while the smaller large games can get to a faster queue. I usually see all of the large games going for 40, not towards the 21 side of it.

Sorry if this is a bit rambling.

I believe one small and one big mafia at time is enough.
And NOTW has its own, little different, base of players; so it should keep its own queque IMO

Does it though?

No, it really doesn't. Seriously. Compare the signups for Dreadnought's game and then compare it to a normal mafia game. There is practically no difference.

@Buddha: I understand your point, but remember, for most of the large games that have been operating recently, a NOTW has run concurrently. So I can't see any downsides to merging the queues and doubling the games. But I won't do anything drastic without major community support, however.

Go ask Backwards about it.

Small Town Troubles

Host: MartinLuther
Type of Game: Mini
Number of Players: 10
First time host: No
Progress: 100%

For as long as they could remember, the city of Frieden never had any problems. No crime, no murders, and no corruption. But recently, 2 outsiders moved to the town and ever since then there was an increase in crime. But they were small petty crimes, no one was really worried. Until today, when they found the dead body of Police Chief MartinLuther.

I'm making this Mafia game for one reason, I want to introduce Mafia to some guys on another forum and see if they like it.

Role Madness: The Fate of Blahristan

Host: NinjaCow64
Type of Game: Large
Number of Players: 40, this number is flexible though.
First time host: No, still a noob though.
Progress: ~10%

The first time it was just a small town that no one had heard of. The politicians still ignored the issue, but aggression against the Blahristani Mafia grew, forming a resistance movement...

The next time it was a famous pub. This made headlines all around the country. This was good news for presidential hopeful NinjaCow64, as he had a hardline stance of law enforcement, a view point very popular with the populace, which made sense, considering the circumstances...

This time, it will shock the very average Blahristanian to the very core of their soul. They will be so shocked that they would be able to power the entire world's energy needs for a year, a discovery which would fix global warming if the energy companies could get their acts together. What's so shocking about this? It's who the Mafia are targeting this time: The Presidential Palace.

OMG role madness for 40 players
