New Patch Eventually On the Way

I haven't thought of playing around with it... and it might cause all sorts of weirdness.

But you might be able to trick steam into thinking you have a more current version, if they store the version number in a config file.

Granted, from what I've seen in multiplayer, everyone drops after someone gets the great library.

I really wish they supported a PBEM type situation.

I think he has until 11:59am Wednesday for it still to be early this week. :crazyeye:

Seriously, though it drives us fans nuts, this is why companies don't like to give ETAs (or even ETAs for ETAs). Lots of stuff can happen in a development & testing cycle, and it's generally worse to have to keep changing an estimate than to never give one.

Oh crap, guys! I almost forgot....

Today's pretty good for a patch day, don't you think?

In addition to the PC patch notes, there are these specific Mac notes:
• Fixed unit icons and borders turning black while in strategic mode for nVidia graphic cards.
• Civilizations’ having the incorrect architecture has been resolved.
• Implemented change to improve stability on the HD 3000 GPU.

Dear Aspyr Ryan,

Thank you for this exciting and awesome news.

Now please make a Mac version for all the other games I am missing. You may want to focus on Old Republic first.

Quick question as I haven't tried it for a while, but does the SteamCloud work cross-platform yet? I'm in the middle of a game on my PC, and would love to continue on my Mac

They've been keeping the two isolated from each other.

The save files are compatible, but you'll need to manually move them from one cloud to the other by loading from the cloud on the PC, saving locally, and emailing it to yourself (or usb key it or whatever) to get it to the Mac.. then you can save it back to the cloud.

Well it would have been, but there doesn't seem to be an update available on Steam or in the App Store.

That's strange. It worked on live for me yesterday. I'm looking into it.

The App Store version isn't quite caught up yet, as our priority was on the Steam patch to get cross platform back up and running.

Edit: definitely something going on there. I'm investigating, and we're talking to our Steam contacts about it. One thing worth trying is to right click on Civ V, click Properties > Local Files > Verify Integrity of Game Cache.

Just confirmed it did NOT download for me.

Over in the PC forum, people are saying that somehow the Mac patch made Steam think their PC installation was out of date, and got caught in a loop of trying & failing to update. So perhaps Steam pulled it.

One thing worth trying is to right click on Civ V, click Properties > Local Files > Verify Integrity of Game Cache.

That did it. Thanks Ryan :)

That seems to be doing something.. "66 files failed to validate and will be reacquired."

Edit: And.. patched.

How long should it take to "verify integrity of game cache?" I don't think I've ever been able to do that. When I last tried to, it was stuck on 0% for about 10 or 15 minutes. I canceled the operation and instead selected "delete local content." I had to reinstall the game, but I own a hard copy, so it wasn't too bad.

I reinstalled and updated, and everything is working fine now, but does anyone have an idea why I seemingly cannot verify the integrity of the game cache? I'd like to know in case I have to do it down the road.

Thanks.

I left it to run in the background when I did it before. It does take a long time. I just started it up again, and it has been stuck on 0% for over 20 30 minutes and counting.

ok for me it s not updating.... i check the integrity of cache but nothing.....:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

I left my verification re-test running over night, and it never changed - remained at 0%. So this morning, I quit Steam and relaunched it, and tried again. This time it ran the Verification, taking two or three minutes. Of course, since the first attempt had already updated my Civ5, this time it reported all files successfully verified.
