New video from Destructoid (May, 14th)

There are a lot of mercantile city-states at the moment, however.

I know a CS uses it's gifted units, but what do they do with your bribes? Do they use it too?

Don't think so. I have looked at the gold graph in the end of game and it appears to not keep track of CS gold at all. Science is tracked though.

Of course, this could change.

As far as I know Hongkong was never "independent" or had its own nation before 1997.
The makers of the expansion have once again rewritten history!

Hong Kong is kinda of special. It's a special administrative region of China.
We already have Lhasa as a city-state, why not have Hong Kong?

Lhasa was the capital of Tibet for more then thousand years,Hong Kong was not independent and had no nation or empire.
I hope Tibet will be added in the future.

But Quebec was, yes?
-> city states don't have to be capitals, their own empires, or even city states. They have to be important cities, which are not covered by current civs (or coverage is doubtful). Nothing more.

Hong Kong was autonomous and was one of the Four Asian Tigers, which are very significant. Out of the four, we have Seoul (Korea) and Singapore. Hong Kong is probably less controversial in China than Taipei, I would think. Worst case, they can always have a different name in the Chinese version.

I always go back and forth for whether it's a good idea. I think it's unnecessary this time through, but that doesn't make it bad.

In Civ5, aside from real city states, the greater half of city states are essentially used to represent their respective modern world countries.

Hong Kong was a colony carved out by a treaty. It has neither been a real city state nor the center of its own sovereign. The only reason it would be chosen is because our pop culture collective unconsciousness perceives it as a city state.

Then again, we have Antwerp and Belgium, Zurich and Geneva. So make of that what you will. Quasi-sovereign city-states seem sufficient.

Too bad we havent seen ANY mesoamerican CS in screenshots, Im still hoping the area gets at least one, that neglect is rather dissapointing considering the rich history of City states and confederations there.

Seconded. Oh so seconded. There are so many great Mesoamerican cities that could be city states. But not one used?

So does the 10% bonus great people generation stack? So having 5 friends would give you 50% faster great people generation>?

I clearly hope so, otherwise all civs you DoF would gain a bonus while you gain nothing.

... though you might argue that the fact that every other civ would rather DoF you is already a bonus. Maybe on MP...

Or rather, we haven't seen any new american CS yet. As I like to emphasize, from Pole North to Tierra del Fuego we have only 2 CS. Belgium has 2 CS...

I all want is to nuke the Tango out of Buenos Aires...
